Sitting with my 91 year old dying mum, she loved this hymn. She led a good life raising 6 of us on very little. Such a hard worker. Feel so lonely right now.
Stay strong, some take us with them. It reminds me of Primary school, we used to sing it in morning sunshine, we watched a female teacher because she would start visibly crying, on grown up chairs down the side of the hall, we on the wooden floor, multi purposed hall: dining room, film showing room, assembly - another world.
brings back memories of my family. Lost my sister to cancer in 94, lost brother to heart attack in 97, lost dad in 2000, heart attack. Baby brother in 1958. Not many left. hope there is a Heaven. I hope to see them.
we don't think of passing when we're 20yo we think instead that we'll live forever. not realizing at the time that life is very, VERY short for ALL of us. I too being 79yo now have a long list of passing's within the family. Thus if you don't wanna see that the choice is to die young. I doubt there's a Heaven but one never knows. I personally believe that there's meaning to life and that Soul is empowered via the quantum world of which we know virtually almost nothing.
Thanking my dad for playing these to us when we were tots. All I have are joy and happy childhood memories. Dad is 90, and mom is 90. Married from age 19. ❤❤❤❤
Growing up I never knew how lucky I was to have all my siblings and parents living in the same household listening and singing this beautiful song together. I’m so grateful for those beautiful memories I’ll cherish forever ❤
So sorry for your loss. I still cry for my father's passing since 1995. Grieving is different for everyone. Think of the good times you shared with your mother.
How confident and clever that Cat Stevens was able to record this venerable hymn and resend it into a world so desperate for God's light. Sometimes, on the most mundane of workdays, as I lock my front door or start my car, this tune pierces into my routine and makes me realize that each day is a blessing from our heavenly father.
Praise to the Heavenly Father! Especially as we are in the holiday season and with all the hate, poverty, and suffering going on we need to let God know that we still need him, Amen! God Bless!
Oh you mean Yusuf Islam? Fair enough. I suppose that ninny will always be Lew Alcindor, or The Greatest will always be Cassius Clay to some snowflakes out there
My mother wanted this tune at her funeral and asked me years ago to play it on the bagpipes, which I'd often pipe for her. It went well on the pipes down at the cemetary. She loved birds and trees.

Just looking at the bigger picture. The negative influences of this world are designed to make our heart sick through emotional & physical pain resulting in a given person turning to music as one source of comfort to the body. The painful realty of this existence gives rise to the birth of music in two forms, earthly & HEAVENLY. Earthly music speaks to the experiences of this world through the singer-song writer’s eyes. Oftentimes drug use (i.e. alcohol, smokes, marijuana, cocaine, opioids, benzos and propofol to name a few) is intertwined with the survival of an artist to deal with the pressure of performing in order to stay relevant in the music industry, and to serve as fuel for creativity. As a result, music celebrities develop a tendency to sin against their body, through excessive drug use, for not measuring up to or to satisfy the demands of their music. Any earthly joy they experience is darkened by the heavy burden of performing and the loss of privacy. The end users of their music become fans because the lyrics are relatable and the sound of the singer’s voice & rhythm helps them cope with the pains of this reality. Unfortunately, this band aid approach is only a time out from the hurt and in the meantime we are fortifying its wall with painful memories waiting in line. Who can save us from wounds that are silent, wordless and cruel all the while tearing us apart inch by inch on the inside, which could radically accelerate the demise of the human body? I will use caps as emphasis to show the honest reverence for GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY when writing about HEAVENLY music in the paragraphs below. That INVINCIBLE DIVINE be our HEAVENLY FATHER, WHO THROUGH HIS SON’S MISSION HAS INSPIRED believers to write songs that sing of HIS LIFE GIVING LOVE to deal with emotional & physical pain, economic instability, mortality and the emotional instability of others with the motive of winning over souls for HIS KINGDOM. The melody & theme of HEAVENLY music is hateful and intolerable to the devil, a spirit which causes us to be blinded of the effects of sin and is responsible for the woes of this world such as melancholy, anguish, tribulation and trial. These agitations of the soul create a heavy burden for the lost and could lead him or her to be hostile of songs that sing about GOD’S GLORY. This makes it clear that we cannot win the spiritual battle by our own strength. Moreover, on earth the devil has no equal. GOD has provided us with the ONE WHO CAN AND WILL LIFT the heavy burden of sin's guilt from a given sinner's heart if he or she (through faith) would open their understanding to Psalms (starting with the focus on Psalms 51:1-10 KJV), and hymns/songs giving praise to HIM for the purpose of being persuaded, converted and healed by the HOLY SPIRIT from within by transforming your body/temple into a meeting place for you and the KING OF THE AGES to commune as friends through the born again experience (repentance manifesting itself in a changed life). It is only here that the fears of tomorrow will diminish, the blessed assurance is given that you are HIS and HE LIVES. Once the blessed assurance is known in prayer (through the confession of wanting salvation from one’s sinful nature, combine with admitting that JESUS CHRIST is LORD and believing in one’s heart that GOD raised HIM from the dead to deliver us from sin's guilt) the world can never take it away because the world didn’t give it to you.
I did NOT know that, Sandy. And yes I miss ALL our parents & the things we never got to say to them regarding how MUCH we learned about life. From them. Also please listen to Mike & the mechanics.. "The Living Years" here on youtube.
WOW. I was just thinking on how we used to sing this at the Methodist church where I grew up back in the day. Then I scrolled down and saw your post.... Whenever I go outside in the morning in spring (I live in rural Iowa) and the Redwing Blackbird is chirping it brings this song, and what it means, back to my memory. Good vibes to Grandpa and you.
I totally agree.... unfortunately he dared approve the fatwa condemnin to death Salman Rushdie. You Can be a genius.... Bring fabulous emotions to the World and be man without conscience and Heart.....the ego is the motor of creation...( Not only..of cour...se)
Yes...that whole fatwa thing was too stupid ! Let's hope he has recovered from all that nonsense. I so loved him 50 years ago ♡ I suppose dear Rick Wakeman arranged the music if he was playing piano ♡
I am from Mexico. My husband likes Cat's lyrics. I started listening to his songs since I was 33 years old. "Morning has broken " is really a great prayer!!!❤
The lyrics - all of them - were written by Eleanor Farjeon. Her family kindly allowed Cat Stevens to record this hymn - set to a traditional Celtic tune - after Eleanor’s death.
I was 16 when I first heard this song, I was wanting to end my life that day, if I had not heard this song I would not be here listening to it at 62 ❤️ it cheers my soul and gives me energy to be happy.
Great that u r still hear sometimes god i buzzy give him some time i had hard times too but then there is a small sign like smile from a nice Person or maby u played logo and u win a lill price buts a smile if understand what i mean😊 take care and stay alive ok
Lyrics: Morning has broken like the first morning Blackbird has spoken like the first bird Praise for the singing, praise for the morning Praise for them springing fresh from the world Sweet the rains new fall, sunlit from Heaven Like the first dewfall on the first grass Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden Sprung in completeness where His feet pass Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning Born of the one light, Eden saw play Praise with elation, praise every morning God's recreation of the new day Morning has broken like the first morning Blackbird has spoken like the first bird Praise for the singing, praise for the morning Praise for them springing fresh from the world
Thank you very much for supplying the lyrics. Hearing this song takes me back to early ’70s first, second and third grade. The teacher, Ron Ziegler (nicknamed ’Padre’ - his middle name) would lead us in singing this in Chapel, at least twice a week at Aldersgate, a Methodist school.
We sang this together in school too, when we were about 8 years old. I think that must have made us third grade, but that was in about 1973 and in those days the American system system wasn't used on this side of the Atlantic. Nowadays I believe they call it Year 1,Year 2,Year 3,and so on. At the same time this song was played on the radio, and I remember my Dad singing "Morning has broken...into five pieces," along to it as he made us breakfast and got us ready for school.
Dear Ryan, I'm so sorry. She must have been a beautiful woman that you'd write this and play this song for her on your guitar. Peace and comfort to you.
Elizabeth deVries Thank you very much Elizabeth. She was a really special person who was loved by many. We were always very close and had a lot in common, such as taste in music. She was a strong Christian for most of her life and had no doubt about where she was going and that gave her peace and comfort right to the end. She was the bravest and strongest person I've ever known and I can't wait to see her again one day when it's my time.
Ryan Haydon si tu madrecita linda amaba ésta canción es por que poseía un alma cristalina, un abrazo a ti. Lamento no poder escribir correctamente tu idioma para que entiendas mis palabras.
I listened to his music when I was in Nam. While others were into hard acid rock I was mellowing out and keeping my sanity thanks to Yusuf. Love everything he has ever done.
Thank you for your service. Great choice in song and sound decision considering your location. Grace, blessings and love your was to have you come home. I wrote a poem called "A Soldiers Heart".
What a beautiful song from a beautiful musician, I'm very proud of myself that I have knowledge of such great music that today's kids have no idea about. I wish I could make music like this🎵🎶🎼🎸
@@JimDueker 2021-1972=49 years, 49 yrs+ 16yrs = 65yrs , not 74. You must've been at least 25 when the song came out. Not dissing you just putting my math there.
First record I bought at the age of 16. Was introduced to this song at school. Coming from a mainly atheist family, I could neither believe nor fathom how and why this song managed to touch my soul and heart in ways nothing ever had before. What a treasure.
One of the most beautiful British hymns ever written - all children growing up leaning this hymn. Eleanor Farjeon who wrote this will be remembered forever for this one song sung to the gorgeous scottish air.
Ich bin 74 Jahre alt. Wir haben es in der Jugend gehört und gesungen. Nun sind schon viele Verwandte und liebe Bekannte von uns gegangen. Mit diesem Lied ist alles gegenwärtig und Tränen fließen.
A totally unconditional piece of art. To all the faithful or all those who find their joy from their own souls, it reminds us that life is good, the universe is beautiful and we have a right to be here. When we share this with our families, communities and strangers, without prejudice, we shine just a little better. Thank you Yusuf, I am grateful.
It's great that we were able to experience this time! I am now 76 years old and waiting to die. I have cancer that is no longer treatable. The music of the 60s/70s helps me a lot in my last days or weeks. There will never be such a great time again!!
Timeless, simple, ageless, true. For me, so many memories here-- young teens, high school, the world was big, possibilities endless, carefree time. Later in life, would sing this wonderful hymn at Mass many happy, prayerful times. So dear. Thank you for posting this 👑✝️🕊️
This Song was played on the funeral of my fahter. He died beacuse of a sudden heart failure on new year's eve in 2017. Sometimes i just listen to this Song and remember him. Have a nice day folks. Stay save
I miss some of my old folks too or my two best friends from school who didn't even make it to 50 🌹🌹🌹 Sometimes in the evening when it's quiet, I light candle, or listen to very soft music and talk to them and smile. I don't have to tell this to anyone 🌹🌞🌹🙏
When my mum passed this was one of the hymns that was sung in a very small church which held about 20 max. Unfortunately the piano was broken so we all sung it in acapella. It still to this day brings tears. It brought a lot more on the day.
My dear friend Amy loved Cat Stevens, especially this song. She passed last March. She is deeply missed by all. I can't hear any Cat Stevens music without thinking of her
Ein Klassiker der Cat Steven...we b ich ihn höre mit meinen 60 Jahren werde ich wieder Jung und bin sofort in der Zeit....danke das er uns immer noch verzaubern kann mit seiner Musik 🎶 großes Herz ❤️
My grandmother introduced me to this song long ago (I'm 33), she just passed away last week and I will always feel her presents listening to this song :)
I grew up hearing this song on the radio in the 70s. We also sang it during worship at our Methodist Church. Later, I sang this song to my sons every night at bedtime. My middle son is getting married in a few weeks and we will dance to this recording for the mother-son dance at the wedding reception.
Can’t find a more beautiful song. You are so awesome Cat Stevens. My older brother got me listening to you when I was a little girl. Never forgot you and never will. Your songs touch hearts and souls like no other. God bless and keep you always. ❤❤
My fun story: after my dad died joked to my brother that I wanted this song played at the church(catholic church won't have this song). My family in ireland had the "months mind mass" (1 month anniversary) for my dad at their village Irish language church. I watched online. And this was the opening song. Very beautiful, based on an old Gaelic hymn.
I truly believe with all my heart, you are the most gorgeous man I ever did see!!! Your music is just as awesome today as it was in the 70's! This song says a lot that takes me back! I do hope your well in this day and time we're living in! Selah
For some unbeknownst reason this beautiful hymn, Morning has Broken started playing in my head, out of the blue. I haven’t been in contact with my spiritual side for quite sometime, due to anxiety and stress. I’m 51 now. But when this song started playing, I had flashbacks from my primary school, when I was growing up, sitting down on chairs with my classmates in assembly, and our Italian music teacher was playing this hymn on her piano, and we were all singing along before starting classes for the day. And that’s when I remembered other flashbacks, remembering my mum singing this hymn in mass, in our local church, on a Saturday evening, and I was sitting alongside her on the wooden bench with a hymn book to read. Also, I could hear my sisters voice, singing this hymn to me. Both my mum and sister passed away in 2011 and 2012, but I haven’t felt them so close for a while, until now. And whenever I look up at the North Star at night, I think of them and other love ones now passed. Our body is on loan to us, and we walk the terrain on earth with limited time, and one by one, we lose the people we love, until that moment, it’s our time to leave this earth for the stars. As I recall, what my sister said to me before she died. We come from carbon, and when it’s our time, we go back to carbon, and live amongst the stars. ⭐️ 💫
Hugs to you, fellow Jennifer. My dad is currently battling terminal leukemia and introduced me to Cat Stevens when I was tiny. I hope you feel the embrace of the beautiful music and have fond memories of your dad. I'm trying to build up as many good memories as I can now. Blessings.
We all have our own beliefs if you want me to talk about mine then just ask but with no judgement about it as I have done with yourself enjoy your day take care am only here for a bit of relaxation hope you have a lovely day

This song holds true about life and what the Bible says. The word says give of the first fruits of anything . Your best . Off the top portion. Like money or singing like this man did. The birds before daybreak always praise the one and only God in heaven and at dust praise for the evening singing to God before night. This is a beautiful song to worship the lord. If you think about what he did for us . He gave his life to save us. He gave his best ,him self . Praise God for his is worthy. ❤

Sang this song at church when I was a kid in the 1970s our Minister wanted to reach out to the teens and youth - the entire congregation loved it and sang together. It will be played at my funeral.
When i read the Bible for the first time, I read, Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world. My heart was forgiven. This song came to my mind. ❤
@Christine Gavin I agree: Robertson: You don't think that this man deserves to die? Y. Islam: Who, Salman Rushdie? Robertson: Yes. Y. Islam: Yes, yes. Robertson: And do you have a duty to be his executioner? Y. Islam: Uh, no, not necessarily, unless we were in an Islamic state and I was ordered by a judge or by the authority to carry out such an act - perhaps, yes. [Some minutes later, Robertson on the subject of a protest where an effigy of the author is to be burned] Robertson: Would you be part of that protest, Yusuf Islam, would you go to a demonstration where you knew that an effigy was going to be burned? Y. Islam: I would have hoped that it'd be the real thing.
I am 83 years and still love the words, melody and Cat’s voice.
It's definitely a forever love

Once the blessed assurance is known in prayer (through the confession of wanting salvation from one’s sinful nature, combine with admitting that JESUS CHRIST is LORD and believing in one’s heart that GOD raised HIM from the dead to deliver us from sin's guilt) the world can never take it away because the world didn’t give it to you.
So beautiful. This was played at my Dad's funeral. I love you Daddy.

I played this at my husband’s memorial service. It was so beautiful.
I was watching the sunlight on the trees in my backyard and suddenly had to hear this song, which I’ve not thought of in years. So lovely.
My Grandad used to sing this to wake us up in the morning. He was brought up as a Methodist and this hymn meant a lot to him
Hello Rachel, how are you doing today
We sang this at Sunday school (congregational UK) in the 50s and 60s.
Me too. just beautiful xx

Cat Stevens is not just a great songwriter. His musical arrangements are brilliant. His vocals are peaceful and soothing. The man is a genius.
He did not write this; Eleanor Farjeon did.

Hello there 👋 I think the 70’s is the best time to listen to country
love this quote
I am from Mexico.
My husband likes Cat's lyrics.
I started listening to his songs since I was 33 years old.
"Morning has broken " is really a great prayer!!!❤
The lyrics - all of them - were written by Eleanor Farjeon.
Her family kindly allowed Cat Stevens to record this hymn - set to a traditional Celtic tune - after Eleanor’s death.
It is truly a beautiful prayer of appreciation and gratitude for the every day miracles of life on this planet.

Lyrics:
Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the world
Sweet the rains new fall, sunlit from Heaven
Like the first dewfall on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day
Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the world
👍🙏🏼✨💗🇺🇲🇨🇺🇵🇷🇻🇪thanks.,
Thank you very much for supplying the lyrics.
Vielen Dank für den Text - so kann man gut mitsingen.
@@rjjcms1 Lol! That sounds like something my father would have sung too! He passed in 2001 and miss him more than anything!
Going through a rough time in my, I remember hearing this song at church one Sunday evening. Felt amazing after.
I play this on guitar for my mom who died of cancer in January 2017. It was one of her favorites. Love you mom, and I'll always play this for you.

First record I bought at the age of 16. Was introduced to this song at school. Coming from a mainly atheist family, I could neither believe nor fathom how and why this song managed to touch my soul and heart in ways nothing ever had before. What a treasure.

You are not alone I'm 73 at the moment. Don't give up.
May you have ease and speedy recovery!

I had it played at my Catholic church wedding in England in 1975. No problems.
I truly believe with all my heart, you are the most gorgeous man I ever did see!!! Your music is just as awesome today as it was in the 70's! This song says a lot that takes me back! I do hope your well in this day and time we're living in! Selah
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard by a great great artist
I remember being taught this in primary school, not realising it was taken from a hymn.
This is in the 7th-day Adventist hymnal. I sang this in church school. I still remember its number, #44.
Thank you ❤ 28 years today since I lost my Dad, I was 9! Beautiful words that was played at his funeral. Be kind, be cool and listen!!✌️❤️❤️

Y. Islam: Yes, yes.
Robertson: And do you have a duty to be his executioner?
Y. Islam: Uh, no, not necessarily, unless we were in an Islamic state and I was ordered by a judge or by the authority to carry out such an act - perhaps, yes.
[Some minutes later, Robertson on the subject of a protest where an effigy of the author is to be burned]
Robertson: Would you be part of that protest, Yusuf Islam, would you go to a demonstration where you knew that an effigy was going to be burned?
Y. Islam: I would have hoped that it'd be the real thing.
