Thanks for the video I was looking for a solution for an annoying scraper and needed a reminder about using a skew. And I have a few scrapers that I just don't use that I can repurpose.
Hi cindy I was real happy to see your video on this to sharpen cause i've had trouble sharpening the scrapes properly. It's been About 20 years and I saw one of your in person demonstrations in Wyoming. Anyhow good to see how to sharpen is scraper
Thank you so much Cindy for a very easy to understand demonstration of sharpening these newer complex tools. You make it simple and take out the guess work!
Hi Cindy. Thank you for this, you’ve completely demystified negative rake scraper sharpening, useful shapes and how to easily improve my Wolverine platform. Cheers from Canada and happy new year!
Thank you for sharing your expertise on sharpening these scrapers. I now know where I've been going wrong and I look forward to putting the lesson into practice. 🙂
I have been thinking about making cut outs on my wolverine platforms but I’ve been hesitant and I will have to have someone else to do it because I don’t have the metal working tools. Making the overlay is probably the best solution. Thank you so very much Cindy for the fantastic idea.
I haveaneighbor who is a machinist and I had him add 2 - 1 inch tabs on the top of my Wolverine tool rest. Now it passes a full inch on either side of the wheel. It's all flush and smooth. If you have a machine shop handy or know a friend. It cost me 10 bucks...neighborhood rates.
@@cindydrozda Thanks Cindy. Just my luck, sold out. I'll have to make due hand sharpening for now. Great demo today.....colour adds so much more to the figured wood. Hopefully I have a piece completed for next weekend to show off.
@@DaveBellStickermetimbers Well, that's disappointing. I hope they're planning to get more. It's the best grinder rest out there. You can do fairly well with the Wolverine platform by cutting out the notch around the wheel, or putting an overlay on top of it like I show in one of the videos. Robo Hippy also makes an adjustable rest that's good.
@@DaveBellStickermetimbers I know for sure that Woodworkers Emporium is not out of business. But Stuart Batty Tools is. I noted your angles or included angles seems to be mostly symmetrical, is that by preference or simply because it is easier because the platform angle is already set. Ie 25 degrees and 25 degrees.
Edward, It doesn't seem to matter if the angles are symmetrical or not. Setting one platform angle and sharpening either side is good on tools that I might use either way up. I do some with a different angle top and bottom.
Thanks for the video. One question though, to raise the bur is the wheel turning toward you or away from you? If turning towards you, wouldn’t that raise the but on the bottom of the tool vs the top?
@@cindydrozda Thanks for the fast reply! I moved from a Tormek to CBN w/SB Tools platform about a year ago and absolutely love it! It just seems counter intuitive to raise a bur on top when grinding down but I will definitely check it out.
As always, great information. Thank you for sharing. Where did you get the angle setting tool for the grinder platform, I didn’t see it on your site? Also, do you ever use a burnisher for hooking your burs? Thanks.
Cindy Drozda lol same here, that’s why I asked. I use my burnisher on my card scrapers but haven’t tried it on my turning scrapers. Thanks again, I appreciate it.
Hi Gary, I shape the pyramid tool horizontally on a 0 degree platform, and sharpen it on a diamond hone. There's a live stream recording on my channel that shows how I do it.
@@cindydrozda thanks Cindy. The tool is held against the wheel on the tool support at 0 degrees at an angle of 25 degrees? Do you have the link to your video I couldn't locate it...sorry
Hello Cindy thank you for your videos but most of all the clarification on the subject matter. I watch several other channels and where I have a question, viewing your channel you have answered many questions. My question is are these various tools in this video purchased and you keep them sharp or did you make them from raw steel. If you have made them Could you please advise the best steel material “ the metal type” or number” to make a tool with and your best method of heat treating them. Thank You very much David Ray
Hi David, You can either make Negative Rake Scrapers or you can buy them. The ones I use are available on my website www.cindydrozda.com/. If you make your own, use the best steel you can find and it will hold an edge longer. Better to buy the steel already heat treated. Heat treating HSS is quite a process.
When I bought my scrapers in Nashville I thought you said they were ground at 20/20 degrees or an included angle of 40. But here you are using an included angle of 50 degrees

What is the rpm of your grinders I noticed they were slower than usual.
The grinders are 3500rpm. Not slow at all. That's considered a high speed grinder. If it looks slow, that's just an illusion from the camera.
