- Well… What an emotional Christmas Finale that was! 😭🎄
I am so NOT ready to say farewell, goodbye, cheerio to BBC Ghosts!
I’m hoping the voiceovers aren’t a struggle to hear over the song but i hope you enjoy the video :)
But i am very grateful and blessed that the ‘Six Idiots’
(Mathew Baynton, Jim Howick, Martha Howe-Douglas, Ben Willbond, Laurence Rickard and Simon Farnaby) has written this brilliant programme, funny/moving storylines and lovely characters.

I have loved this series and will miss it dearly. When my husband died I could not sleep so sat with my iPad in bed trying not to dissolve in a lake of sadness. One night I discovered this series on CBC Gem. It was like a balm for my grieving brain. I feel like everyone in this show has helped me heal, as well as one can after losing a life partner! Seeing the Christmas Special and knowing it would be the last episode ever was sad but seeing the growth of the the character of the Ghosts and Allison and Mike affirmed what I already knew, the only constant in life is change and we all have to part from loved ones at some point. Bravo for this superb series!
This is, far and away, my favorite show ever. No offense meant but it's SO much better than the US version (and I'm an American). I love every single character, which is so rare and amazing. Bravo and thank you to all involved.
The American version has its charm. They even try different things (like possession, a seance, etc)
@lenawagenfuehr53 I did like that it had hell as an option, and some of the ghosts were cool, but some I just didn't buy and were just kind of boring. The difference between the 2 that really matters to me is that Mike and Allison struggled so hard to make the inheritance make money for them and the American couple, can't even think of their names, have decent paying back up jobs. It's less real life to me than the UK version
In my head-cannon the sale contract had a clause written in that the suite was never to be rented out, so that the ghosts always had a quiet place to get away from the guests..Its sweet to think of Alison visiting the ghosts and possibly her daughter keeping the ability when she grew up.. (I know the series has finished, but there is always the possibility of another xmas special based on a visit and adventures with other ghosts she sees...)
We can always hope.
The Brits have managed to do what not one American show has managed to do. They’ve made an ending that could have been so so sad incredibly nice and well and also funny and not disappointing. To me it ended too soon, but they will stay almost family members in my head and heart 😀
I loved th UK Ghosts and wished their seasons were longer than 7 episodes, and wished they had done more seasons. The ending was well done, and I cried watching the finale. I loved how the ghosts together told Allison and Mike that it was time for them to sell and raise their daughter, and talked about how they were all a family. It was so well done.

@@wanderer3004 I’m assuming they mean comedies only. Two of my favourite ever American endings was in “Six feet under” and “supernatural”. Really annoying and pointless ending after over 10 years watching was “The walking dead”.
Damn! It is new years eve 2023. Tomorrow is 2024. I never thought a British sitcom that I have only seen about a dozen times here in the US, would be the last thing that made me cry in 2023 and the first thing that would make me cry in 2024. Thank you.
Update: It is January 14 and I rewatched this again. I cried again. I will really miss you all. And I am an American and I love our version of Ghosts. I hope our production people will keep the quality up as you all did. Thank you!!!
Did you miss the sauna scene? 😅 Now that was the uplifting humour to help ease the sorrow. Besides, it was Alison AND Mike as seniors checking into the hotel together. A lovely reunion and a beautiful send off for viewers...all questions answered... as only the Brits can do.
This was the first finale to any series that actually made me cry. These episodes have been my life for a couple of years and I really hope the main cast go on to do other things

😢 So devastated that is all over. It's been truly wonderful and we're now watching it from the beginning for the 5th time. We like seeing Fanny on the telly 😂, and all of the gang. So funny 😂
Made me cry too. For non UK I recommend Horrible Histories by the same team. Aimed at children but watched by adults. Very funny and historically accurate (nearly).
I just wish Mike found a way to see them.

I hope the some or all the cast and crew read these messages..I want to say if they are reading...THANK YOU..THANK YOU...for this fantastic series...ive worked in the film industry and this woukdve been one production I wouldve cried so much to leave when you hear for the last time "check the gate".......I wouldve swept out the honey wagons to of got on this production!..haha
Your video it's amazing, well done and thank you for sharing it. For me the ending was so bitter sweet, but I saw it like the authors made 2 endings to please all their fans. One ending with the season 5 finale when Alison and Mike can't agree and feel sad about giving the house away because they want to stay with their ghost family and another in the Christmas finale where Alison and Mike are ready to move on having more reasons to be in a proper home because of the baby. Personally I rather the season 5 finale where they stay together and I understand that having children changes anybody's perspective in life. However, I was shocked by how fast Alison and Mike agreed on leaving, they didn't even argue with the ghost, saying sorry no we can't leave you or anything. They just agreed and said thanks guys. That puzzled me a bit, considering the season 5 last episode was all spent on them finding reasons to go or to stay and being very conflicted to do so
Well said! Yeah I wish we could see more scenes/moments after the heartfelt speech and before the leave. A more of a moving on and seeing last things Alison does with the ghosts. But I am not complaining, i thought it was a lovely way to end the show :) Not ready to see this go 😢

I was watching it on HBO Max and got through all 4 previous seasons before Paramount+ acquired it...

I'm still traumatised by this final episode and it's very likely to be the only one that I'll only watch once. Too bleak, all too much. Thank God I got a giant box of Hotel Chocolat and a bottle of rhubarb gin or my Christmas would have been a DISASTER.
I have in my head an alternative ending where Alison & Mike accept the golf complex rebuild the gatehouse and live there where the ghosts are invited on Alisons terms to visit. Mike takes up golf becomes really good at it especially the back 9 holes where Julians fingering helps his final putt 😂 Both Alison & Mike work at the complex but home is the Gatehouse i can sleep better if this is in my head im still grieving after the real ending 😢😢😢

I'm an Australian & going to sadly miss this series, loved it. I was crying right through this last episode not only because it was the last episode, but you did the ending justice. I do watch the American version, but it hasn't got the same kind of feel to it & also I find the woman in it annoying & when Americans do their version of a British show, they just don't get it. I wish there was more of this show in future because there isn't a lot of great show on tv anymore & sadly this one ended.
You do know that the actress Rose McIver is actually from New Zealand, right? She does an amazing American accent, though.

What is it that Americans don't get? They took the basic premise of the UK show and made it their own. Characters are similar, not identical. Stories are different. It's not the same show. If it were, they might as well just show the UK show on US tv. Oh yeah, they do exactly that. People can watch whichever they prefer. Or watch both and appreciate them both for what they are. It works both ways. UK buys the rights to US tv shows and present their versions. US does the same.
Using this as another in a long line of dumb stupid/inferior American tropes that run rampant online is silly and petty. I like oranges more than I like bananas. I like them both, but I find oranges more tasty. Doesn't meant that i don't "get" those "annoying" bananas, just that they suit me better.

@@joannesmith2484 Obviously you're American, of course you won't get it. We in Australia had a tv Kath & Kim, America thought they can do their version better. Hell No, it was that bad it had the worst tv rating in Australian tv history, happy to say it was axed.

I started watching the US version,loved it.Saw the UK version when they ran a couple because of the writers strike.Love it too!Why they cancel it?Why they leave!? Questions I must find the answers to!

It makes sense to me that with a family on the way the practical solution would be to raise their daughter in a more....uhm conventional setting. But it bothers me that Button House got turned into a hotel. Remember how much the ghosts were against that idea ? It was so much more than an inconvenience to them. Obviously Mike and Allison have no responsibility to bear the costs of maintaining upkeep on Button house but I wish it were granted a site with historical significance so the ghosts could remain undisturbed at peace. Allison and Mike could visit with their family whenever they wanted in such a case.
The ghosts wanted them to take the offer and they knew the offer was to turn it into a hotel. Alison made sure the room she walked into in the end was only rented out to her and Mike so the ghosts could have a quiet place to live in a hotel setting. They'd be free to move around, no one can see them.
@@debra2700 We only see her visiting them once we don't know whether the hotel rents that room out to other guests or not. I don't remember seeing any specifications regarding that in their contract.
And it is the fact that the ghosts flip flopped to agreeing to the hotel especially after the beautiful season finale felt like undoing everything.

When Alison inherited the place, it was a falling down dump and the ghosts were bored out of their minds and now it's a beautiful hotel with steady guests and activities and it's quite apparent that Alison and Mike visit them each Christmas because Alison walks into the room and says "Hello, guys" so Christmas is a joyous time for them where once it made all of them sad. The ghosts are free to go wherever the want and their "lives" are so much better and happier than they were the day Alison and Mike showed up to claim their inheritance. The ending was quite beautiful and if you need to pick it apart for such foolish reasons, you truly need a hobby.
@@debra2700 I understand it's futile discussing about continuity with a person who clearly hasn't grasped the basic essence of the show. *The ghosts wouldn't want that* Someone paying attention to the show would figure it out in a heartbeat. The ending gave us very little information about how the ghosts were living. They were stripped from their daily routine and stability from Button house. A hotel means constant people and noise and chaos. We don't even know if any of the ghosts moved on. Because if all of them live there then one suite has gotta be pretty cramped up.
You're factoring your own biases in and for that reason you like the ending. To each his own I guess but fans everywhere have been gravely disappointed with it. Do some research then maybe we can have a civil conversation.
@ing.something189 So you want Button House to become an historical site and Mike and Alison could visit with their family and the house stay exactly the way it was when Mike, Alison and Mia left? They're daily routines and stability from Button House before Mike and Alison moved in was listening to each other's boring stories and lessons and being bored beyond belief until Alison moved in and realized they each wanted something from her to shut them up. She did the daily things for them they required for some stimulation. She turned on the music, the TV, moved the chess pieces, helped with puzzles, timed races etc. When she moved out all of that stopped for them, things that THEY demanded from her so they would all stop talking at once. They would have gone back to an empty home with nothing to do waiting for Mike, Alison to show up if it ended the way you prefer. They weren't stuck in one room because it was a hotel. They were free to roam the grounds, sleep in rooms that weren't occupied and go anywhere unseen and unheard and I don't see any of them demanding the solitude you insist that fictitious characters from a comedy sitcom are demanding. Heck, the ghosts who died of dysentery and had a horrible afterlife were thrilled with their dank basement being turned into a swanky spa. I saw them as people forever changed by mostly Alison and they weren't going to go back to being the characters you met at the beginning of the series. Alison went from being considered a whore to a daughter-like figure for the most unbendable ghost in the place. I just don't see why any possibility of the ghosts having had their "lives" made better by knowing Mike, Allison and Mia seems like a sad or dissatisfying ending to you.

I am so glad it ended with a final laugh in the sauna as I was on to my third tissue by then. I really do think the 6 idiots missed an even better finale: as Alison had been able to see the Ghosts then I think Mia should have inherited the trait and passed it on through every generation, so we knew there would always be someone able to see them. Alison and Mike could also have ended their days in Button House so Mike could finally see them all. This is how I would have written it because now I am really sad that when Alison passes there is nobody left for the Ghosts to reminisce with every year.
A superb comedy and it will be much missed in my household (incidentally, I do see ghosts and have a chat with them whenever I see them, generally finding them interesting to see and speak to).
Alison was only able to see the ghosts because of her near death experience. Unless Mia suffers a similar fate, she wouldn't be able to see ghosts but it is a lovely idea.

@@elaineb4490 That's why I thought it was a lovely idea. I completely agree and it would have been fun to know that it wasn't the head injury that gave her the ability to see ghosts, it was an ability she had all along. Thanks so much for that idea !

She's also a mother with a run-down house in desperate need of repairs, and she can barely afford any of it.
Was her husband a ghost, too, in the end? She walked in with him, but he vanished, and it was just her in the end.

I wish they could hv stayed a family. All together. And wherever she moved to she can still see ghosts so why not stay with her friends. I find the ending disappointing after 5 years of saying their family.

I think they tried to tie things off a little too quickly and I didn't think the final episode worked. It's a shame because I loved season five (and all the other seasons). This will always be a favourite show of mine but I wish the ending had been better. Something twice as long would have worked better, as then Alison could have had a proper goodbye with each ghost.
And she can see ghosts anywhere, so how is moving really going to help?

For that last question, back when she was looking for another house, she wanted a new build that had no history, meaning there weren't any ghosts there

@@nedlooker9954 Yes, but she found one in season one episode six, and when she looked out the window, she saw two German pilots hanging suspended in space after they became ghosts when their plane crashed in WWII. Then there was that lady that she met in 'Bump in the Night' who was murdered while hitchhiking. Not to mention that Robin didn't die in Button House but he still haunts it. A new build makes no different to the presence of ghosts. They could have been on the land for hundreds of years and now inhabit a new build.

Didn't like xmas special just annoying mother in law then they leave house for good 😒 dull sad way end series to me anyway i was expecting something happy like m8ke could see them too and they stay forever and baby and all generations of kids family can see ghost and keep house in family 👪 way better ending ❤ 😊
It's still a realistic ending, though. The reason they were considering selling the house in the first place was because they were in debt.
Very disappointed in the ending, they could’ve made a success of the B&B business; it was clear the baby could see the ghosts too; nah thought it was a bit of a let down to a lovely series ☹️
They explained that in a Christmas episode: some children can see ghosts, but only when they're very young. Mia will outgrow being able to see them
That song is tremendously annoying. Couldn't they have lowered the volume a bit or, even better, made it just an instrumental?
Didnt fully understand it...the coming backnold bit...whst was that about...thought a micer more concrete ending coukd have been written ...still avparting of the ways

I felt the ending to be underwhelming,to be honest.
What was the point in flashing forward and not actually showing anyone?
Plus,it felt rushed. All the episode up to that point was them dealing with his mom getting in the way. Then the ghosts come, give permission for them to leave and they just do. Other than them going to sell, but then changing their minds at the last second in a couple of previous episodes....nothing in the finale had the feel of this being the finale. It felt like it was just tacked on at the end.
I really enjoyed the series up until the finale, but the finale itself was....meh
