And now for some answers why:
The lace 'stood up' better than the cotton because there was simply less material for the stream to damage. Everything tested, with the exception of the thin plastic emergency poncho, was constructed via weave, or knit, even the heavy tarp which is made up of a tight weave of plastic, so basically the situation was either the thin strand was being hit, or the water was simply flowing through the spaces between the strands.
For this reason, kevlar would not work any better, since kevlar is also a weave, even if the kevlar fabric itself may fare better than cotton or polyester does.
What I would use would be a firefighters outfit, the outer surface would resist the worst of the pressure, and what's more important, the suit is non-porous so no water is leaking through to damage the wearer.
If not able to get my hands on a Firefighters suit, I would layer a plastic/rubber raincoat (a thick one, not one of those thin windbreakers), with a sweater underneath, and a denim jacket on the innermost layer.

    • @dracoargentum9783

Depends, an average leather jacket is actually made from thin leather for comfort and wouldn't fare much better than the untreated pigskin, even a biker jacket isn't made to withstand the erosion (think of how fast the bike would have to be going in order for road grit and dust to equal the speed of a powerwasher); a welders leather jacket would be thick enough though, especially if covered with a rubberized raincoat too, though they would be rather encumbering and inarticulate.

Along with a large amount of empty space for the water to pass through(so not all of it is applying force) lace is also, if done properly, a tight woven and intricate material that, while obviously not immensely durable, should be able to hold up to some torment
