Greetings from Colorado! I have the 9'5'' 5 weight with the fighting butt. It's a beast of a rod. Unlike any other 9'5'' rod I have ever cast, very accurate and tons of power. Great to have the extra length for casting from a kayak or raft, or tight lining. It throws everything from small dries to hopper-droppers and small streamers. I'm probably going to have to get a 9' 6 weight as well for heavier streamers, bigger fish, and stronger wind. These are just stunning rods. Great video thank you for sharing. Hopefully one day I will be able to travel to NZ to enjoy your beautiful rivers

A great video Mike. It never ceases to amaze me on this channel, big river, big fish but most importantly the Scott Centric in 5 or 6w looks to be a real winner, especially for turning over long leaders in strong winds. I have never casted a Scott fly rod of any model personally but I think it's about time I think, awesome to see your wife with you taking part on day 1, full of enthusiast for you of course haha, but great to see her out there, fantastic content as always.

My first flagship fly rod purchase was a radian 10’ 7wt that’s my sea trout and Atlantic salmon rod. And I absolutely adore it. Also I snapped the tip on that rod and dealing with Scott with their warranty was painless and I just got a brand new top section. They have great customer service and those hand made rods are incredible. Thinking of adding a centric 9’ 6

Hi Mike - great quality video. I'm a bit closer to home than many of your viewers, just outside Richmond. I have decided to get myself a decent rod and I like the feel of a friend's #6 Radian which I tried out. Obviously Radian's aren't a current model anymore so a Centric seems the obvious choice. However I briefly owned a #6 Scott Meridian NZ Special and hated it - seemed like it would be more at home casting heavy lines for kingfish than trout fishing! As someone who uses mainly #6 lines for general back country fishing a Centric #6 would seem the way to go, but my experience with the Meridian has made me a bit wary, and I'm wondering if I'd be better off with a #5 Centric. Do you think this is a valid concern, or are my worries unfounded?

Hi mate, the NZ Special is a great rod with the right line for the right purpose. Light trout fishing isn’t one of them. I can’t help you with which rod weight you should get as it’s subjective and up to you to decide. That said, I use 5wts as my go to rod weight unless I know I’ll be throwing big stuff or smashing into big winds, in which case I’ll go my #6. The 5wt Radian is a wonderful rod, with the Centric maybe a tad better all round. They, for the record, are nothing like the Special which was a specialist niche rod. The Centric 5&6 wts are probably the best all round rods I’ve used. Ensure you match them with a line with some punch and a longer stable head. Hope this helps.
