Couldn’t you just use an oven thermometer?

    I am appliance repair technician.
KitchenAid must be joking with this test.
Just use regular $10 analog oven thermometer. Put it on the middle shelf. Select your temperature and turn on your oven on Bake or Conventional Bake only. NOT on Broil. Make sure heat elements are working and heating.
Let it work at list for an hour or more. Do not open the door . Monitor your thermometer true the door glass with flashlight. Thermometer at first will show lower then actual temperature because it delays a little. But it will catch up. Temperature in oven will fluctuate a lot at the beginning but finally will kind of stabilize when oven will get hot enough.
At this point heat elements will cycle on and off less often. (You will hear relay click sound when they are on or off less often.)
Now it is a time to find out average oven temperature.
Write down thermometer readings every 10 min. Then in the middle between highest and lowest readings will be your average oven temperature.
Now compare this to your selected temperature, turn off the oven for a moment and do calibration. (No need to let owen to cool down).
Turn it back on for the same temperature and continue the test for another 30 minutes or longer.
Do this until your thermometer will show the same (or almost the same) temp as you selected on your oven.
If you can't calibrate then replace temperature sensor first. (You may need to pull out oven to to this.)
When replacing the sensor, cut out plastic male to female connector and use ceramic wire nuts instead.
If this doesn't help then replace control board.
    You are welcome

I did that for 35 years 2nd cycle is fine. Different ovens hold their heat for longer or shorter times.
Depending on door fit and self clean non self clean.
if your tech is taking over one hour to test your being over charged on the labour.

So what do you do if your temperature is off by more than 30 F? Calibration actually did help a bit but it is still off.
Also this guide is ridiculous. Just spend the 10 bucks on an oven thermometer and save yourself hours of under or overbaked cookies.

Hi There! If the calibration did not correct the issue, we would recommend service. An over thermometer does not give an accurate temperature as ovens continuously cycle the bake and broil elements to maintain the set temp.

@@KitchenAidCa fair point thanks. I still think the temp sensor is busted so I'm going to diagnose with a multimeter.

To KitchenAid's comment, even if the heating elements cycle as described, wouldn't an oven thermometer, when placed in the middle, be measuring the ambient air temperature around it, far enough away from the bake and broil elements? Can you not get a good sense of the temperature over time taking multiple readings from a properly placed thermometer measuring the air temperature inside the oven?

I just bought a house with beautiful Kitchen-Aid appliances. But using the oven is a nightmare. Anything I bake will burn on the bottom before the top even starts cooking. We tried calibrating and it didn't do anything to correct this problem. It's a double oven and both ovens do this. I wonder if the people who lived here previous ever cooked, and if so, how the heck they did it!

@@pondside2712 I had a service (certified Kitchen-Aid) come out and look at it a few months ago. They could find nothing wrong. I've calibrated it a bit and it's somewhat better, but I still cannot bake things like biscuits or croissants without them burning on the bottom. And yet other things I have to bake 5 to 10 minutes longer than the instructions call for. It's frustrating and I would not recommend this oven at all.

I just bought a kitchen aide to replace a brand new Frigidaire that had a problem with the timer. This oven is HORRIBLE. I want the Frigidaire oven back. My old one was 15 years old and still worked like it was brand new. I’m sick of dealing with broken ovens
