The phones are similar enough that it would be hard for me to justify paying more for the more expensive phone.

I thought the Pixel 3a XL was better in more of the shots. Not a huge difference, but noticably better. I do still do wonder how the Snapdragon 670 would really hold up if really pushed though? Can it really hold up as well under heavy usage with only 4gb of Ram?
Imho, the 3a’s are not best suited for heavy users.

If you’re in the U.S - unfortunately, you wouldn’t get much for it; likely in the range of $450
put the pixel 3 in a six inch display and it would have been perfect, the notch on the pixel 3 XL is just a shame on google designers.

there was an update for all pixel 3 classes, now the sound is very good. You can check it on youtube

pixel 3a. owned both pixel 2XL and 3, the screen itself justified the 3a purchase, which brighter and more saturated compared to pixel 2. longer update also

$475 phone for those on a budget. OK.
Compared to $799 for the Pixel 3, or $1k for an iPhone XS or Galaxy S10. Compared to those yes the Pixel 3a is cheaper.

I wouldn’t necessarily call the 3a’s a “budget phone”, but rather a “budget Pixel”. Midrange prices start at about $300.
I think that I'm the target for this phone; own a refurb iPhone SE that has a bad audio jack and the flash leaks light into the lens, making it useless for flash photos - other than that, in pristine shape. I think, it's better to buy an enter level DSLR for 400$ and 150$ smartphone with android one (xiaomi a2 lite), and be happy all around #IMHO
People don’t carry around their dslr everywhere like they do with their smartphone. Most casual photos with family are taken on smartphones. Ask any photographer. -Vadim
