    Oh Han, I really felt for you there. You rode her so well!! The shouting teaching style of just one or two words repetitively when you’re struggling is a tricky watch. There’s certainly a time and place for having a push, but when you’re building your confidence is not it. Confidence is a delicate thing in both pony and rider. I struggle with it myself and think I would have got off within 5 mins of both jumping lessons. You were both absolutely amazing. You’ve both got this ❤

    It is so tough sometimes! Especially with different instructors! Some are not our cup of tea while others are! Some push so, you did amazing though. Looking at where you were you and Affie are killing it!!! Never underestimate yourself!!!

    Han, considering you and Aff weren't doing even remotely half of this level and intensity of work just a short time ago, you should be SO proud of yourself and your pony! You two are looking amazing together, and your smile says a ton about how much you're getting to enjoy the journey - the ups and downs of it all. Well done! What a fun camp (minus the rain, lol)! 💖

    Han, I really felt for you, b/c I've been there. Both instructors were knowledgeable and knew their stuff, but were a little brusque, and I could FEEL you getting tense as the cross country instructor yelled at you to keep her going between fences. Which IS what you guys need, but probably with a little more positive encouragement (Simon, for instance). It matters so much to you, as it always does to me, to do right by your horse. And when we get tense, the horse feels that and refusals result. And that makes you feel even less confident--a vicious cycle. But PLEASE take away from this that you guys looked REALLY GREAT most of the time! A few refusals are not the end of the world. They just aren't. And they are much more about you than about Affie (which always makes me feel better--I'd rather the problem be ME than the horse, b/c I can work on myself!). IMHO you got a lot from the camp--you just may need a little time to realize it. I'm glad you were able to work with your instructor afterwards--just what you needed! And clearly you did well at Pontispool, so seems like you got your mojo back. Anyway, just to say I GET IT!!!! Hang in there and keep up the GREAT work, both of you!

    I think that cross country instructor was not right for you. IMO success is not the height or number of obstacles you jump, it’s how confidently and happily you jump them. He was not safeguarding your confidence OR giving you the tools you needed. Good thing you listened to your intuition and Simon’s advice and not attempt XC jumping the next day. Take care of yourself and your pony!

    Somerford is my local training place, I live in Cheshire, it's so cool seeing you there, the farm ride and x-country course are amazing. I take my own trainer so I've never had a lesson with the people you did. I'm glad you followed your gut and spoke to Simon, jumping twice a day is a lot for any horse but it's not beneficial for a team that needs confidence building, it's just asking too much of you both. But I hope you liked it there, it's changed a lot from when I first started riding there

    Han, honestly you did AMAZING. Those were two rough sessions and you sat up and did your best! You did it upset and scared but you did it! Every time you had a hiccup you came RIGHT back around to try again. And Affie looked happy and generally relaxed! Her little ears were picked and she was happy to work! Yes she was difficult and yes you had a hard time, but you know your girl and you are doing it!!!

    It's so great you spoke to Simon - he's such a gem who's sensitive to the emotions of both people and horses. Well done on coming out from a stressful situation with learnings and more confidence. Your body language in the last clip is so different from the first XC clip.

    I must say, although there were a few moments Aff looks amazing! And she’s jumping so well!! Nerves and confidence are so fragile and some days the smallest thing can knock you sideways, so well done for continuing on and pushing through when you could’ve quite easily called it quits!!!❤❤

    You’re doing such a good job Han!! That instructor was pretty harsh with you, I been in that situation where you think it’s best to stop but you don’t want to go against the professing. I just want you to remember how far you’ve come! Not too long ago you didn’t even want to trot, now ur cantering around XC🎉

    Han, you're a beautiful, kind rider, and you and Aff make a cracking team! ❤ Watching that XC and SJ was tough to watch, the xc started absolutely amazing! You were smashing it, but I noticed there was never praise from your instructor, and once you lost your confidence, I belive he pushed to hard and once again when you improved and did well there was no encouraging words just "crack on" ... as for the SJ, that was brutal coaching, and again absolutely no praise when you did well, only criticizing and chasing you, I personally think you thrive off a kinder trainer (like simon) someone to really build your confidence and not pressure you and chase. To even be out doing this stuff with Aff after what you two have faced is incredible in itself, and I'd hate to see you beat yourself up because of harsh trainers 🥹 but that's just my opinion! Either way, I'm super impressed. You make a fab team !!!

    • @Nohorsehan
      @Nohorsehan  8 днів тому

      Thank you!!!
      The SJ instructor is actually my usual instructor from home that I have very regular sessions with. She wouldn’t have ever spoken to me like that before she knew me. I’d been in tears to her and really didn’t even want to get on because I thought I couldn’t ride. She knew I needed shouting at and telling what to do otherwise I’d spiral out of control. It wasn’t a pretty session at all and if I’d had ridden like that the week before she’d have been like what are you doing. She knew that session was only about getting Aff and I over a jump to get our confidence up x

    I haven't read all of the comments but I agree with some I have read. Instructors don't need to be brusque and have that tone as if you're not trying. I'm 58 and would have come away disappointed that I'd spent money on it. You've been doing really well with Affie, she's not been easy. I'd go for instructors that make you feel good. We all need a bit of a push now and again but there are nicer ways of achieving it.

    Absolutely everyone even the best have days like this and we all suffer with loss of confidence at stages of our riding career. It’s tough but we come back from it and we always learn from it. You should be so so proud that you and your horse kept going through it and did everything asked even when it was difficult.

    I think you did a great job! It is hard when you are not feeling it and you communicate that to Affie and it just continues round and round. That being said, I think you did a great job. Some of those jumps were a bit wonky! I don't know how you sat them! But you did and you made it through. Great job Han. You pushed through and although not always pretty you did do it. I'm impressed. Also, big Ariat fan. I freakin' love all of their gear. I have a pair of Ariat mules that are, kid you not, over 25 years old. They've been chewed on my dogs, stomped on by horses and do look a little rough but are just so comfortable and are the best "boots" I've ever owned. When I throw some saddle soap on them, they still clean up well! Can't wait till the next video!

    You did a great job Hannah. Affie is so lovely and c!early trustsyou. With that in mind, I observed that you have a great canter rhythm until you approach a fence, and then you take your leg off and hesitate just a bit, and that's when Affie feels you back off and follows suite. That said, your improvement istremendous. Just keep doing what you're doing and it'll come

    Wow that was a rough one to watch. Weirdly not because of the covert vlogging that was kind of cute. Even the show jumping session at the end of camp seemed not productive. Other than a horse just running flat over the fences what was the point there? Granted we don’t get to see the whole lesson but she was just pushed for more and as an Arab she is like ok we go. How is that teaching her to actually jump better or teaching you to see a stride or what to do when you don’t see a stride. Props to you for sticking through all the lessons and Affie was a really good sport about everything. She is really maturing and you guys are really making a great team this was just an unfortunate run of lessons.

      In my SJ instructors defence. That last session was just about getting me over a fence to help build my confidence rather than any sort of style or anything. She knew if she gave me things to do I’d just flap out of control. I really didn’t want to get on so Mandy had a tough time trying to get me confident x

    I didn't find the somerford camp experience any where near as AMAZING as I've heard it to be... I think it's hyped up and rated far too much, so you go there with an idea of what to expect and it's so unlikely it will live up to it. You done very well. The camps have a lot to improve on, you did great ❤

    In my humble opinion, those instructors were just what you needed to give you a really good push. Yes, it was important and a good call to not jump twice in one day, but as I watch, you tootle around with no impetus or purpose, then when Affie stops or dodges out, you question what is happening. Affie is more than capable, you have to accept that and try to be a bit more brave. I thought you ended on a good note and look forward to seeing your next event.

    You did amazing Han, however I think both instructors need to learn about people skills and how we all learn differently. Shouting at someone who they don’t know, don’t know the history is really not the way. Move on from it, stick with Simon or similar who will give you more confidence. You are an amazing rider and horsy mum.

Maybe I should have explained that. She knows that I get myself in a mess and overthink when I’m in that head space. So I just need shouting at and telling exactly what to do, the session was about teaching me I can ride and Aff will jump rather than anything else. She actually gave me soo much confidence x

      @Nohorsehan  8 днів тому

      I think a mini Simey camp is definitely in order. The SJ instructor is actually my normal SJ instructor from home and I absolutely adore her. She pushes me because she knows me and Aff so well. She was never like that when she first met me, unfortunately I’m the sort of person that just runs away with there thoughts. She knew I needed telling to just get on with it and almost shouting at so I didn’t have time to over think and think I couldn’t ride
