This is really neat. I think it is more suited for use in a window. Maybe board up a window to make it look extra creepy and then have the eyes peeking out between the planks.

These are so cool. I’d use them all year to freak people out. So glad you done a tutorial. I see them on insta n just knew I had to make some. 👍

Found a decent solution to my motion sensor idea. I simply used the blink pin! Had to change from pullup to pulldown. Works almost as good as I wanted. You still see some backlight in a dark setting.
    Thanks for this fun project!

Nice! I'm only getting into little projects like these, but I'll order some parts to figure this out by next Halloween. Hopefully, that enthusiasm won't subside till then.

Excelent idea! Since the eyes have fixed shape, it would be cool to use a "shield plate" on top of the screens so you can't see the black square behind the eyes. But that could lead to some people freaking out harder XD

Great video.. Have you seen the new Adafruit Monster M4sk eyes mask or Adafruit HallowWing? They do single and pair that work together with everything done. Very cool. Monster M4sk has lots of cool stuff.

This would seriously creep my mother out. She absolutely hates floating eyes like that. It would creep out anyone who see them, especially if the eyes opened as you walk by, watching as you go. Love the vid and idea.❤

this is fantastic, I am thinking about doing this. To what power source do you have them connected? A regular outlet I'm guessing? Would you include a battery with the boards?

Such a great idea ! I'm traying to make it work, all exaclty connected as in your video, using an ItsyBitsy M0 Express, upload seems fine (no errors in Arduino IDE) but I only get white screens (I'm using 2 TFT's : 1 connected to CS1, other one to CS2).

Hi, I just loved this video and really wanted to do this project. I bought all the things i needed and assembled them. loaded the program and it isn't working? I'm thinking some of the pin assignments are off in program. I clicked on the link in the description for your modifications using the MO board but the link is gone? Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Question. You have SDA of the tft connected to MOSI on the itsybitsy. Can you explain? I'm trying a different M4 board, gotta match things up but I don't understand the SDA to MOSI. Thanks, great project!

I'd love to have just 1 screen for 1 eye. I am recreating the spell book from Hocus Pocus for this year with an encasement and everything! I'm pretty crafty, but I have never touched electronics as part of my crafts... this is a whole new language to me and I'd love to find out how to get some help with this stuff!

I have what seems like a simple modification I want to do, and I can't figure it out in code. I want to connect a PIR sensor to activate the displays when someone enters the room. I can do it with a sensor and a relay, interrupting the pin 8, 3.3v LED on the tft boards. This keeps the eyes running with the displays off when nobody is in the room. Seems pretty simple, right?

Hello. I am doing this project on Teensy 3.2. Everything works. The left monitor is connected to pin 9, and the right one to 10. How can I make my eyes rotate synchronously, and not in different directions, and the pupils are different, one large and the other small. If I connect both monitors to pin 9, then my eyes are the same and rotate synchronously. How to programmatically make (CS monitors connected 9 and 10 pins) so that the eyes rotate synchronously and the pupils are the same. Please give an answer. Thank.

If I wanted to use another SMD resistor, am I trying to lower the resistance? Or raise it? I was thinking raise because we are raising the V from 3.3 to 5. I have some SMDs and wanted to use them if the resistance was correct (I have no 68's would have to combine 2 traditional ones). What value? Thanks for any help!!

Helping someone with a small project. He wants to use one screen for one eye. Open a small port lid on a board hanging on the wall. Behind the lid is the screen. Need a way to activate the eye and add a battery. Not sure how to figure the power for this.

My displays finally came in and I am trying to build my first set of eyes. I am unable to get the code to load on the M0. Any ideas why I am getting a "Error occurred while uploading the sketch" message? When I downloaded all of the libraries the Adafruit_ST7735.h one there were multiple versions available. I selected the latest one. I assume that is preferred? Any pointers or things to try would be greatly appreciated because I have 10 of these displays I want to put to use!

Like others have commented kind of wish this didn't say "Arduino" in title since later on it specifically says "WILL NOT work on normal Arduino or other boards!". For people like myself who may not read completely through appropriately and just dive in it would save some time and money to specify up front it wont' work with Arduino's....

    • @wermy
      @wermy  4 роки тому

Arduino is a platform with a ton of different microcontrollers that support it. Perfectly valid to say that this is an Arduino project; there are even official Arduino boards with the same M0 chip as I used in this project (the Arduino Zero and MKR line of boards), which should work with this.

@@wermy Well I guess once again it's my ignorance versus being incorrect description. :-) Thanks for replying. A question, when I try to compile and verify this code as downloaded it gives errors around "size of array 'sclera' is too large" and "size of array 'iris' is too large". Any ideas on how to address?
