- This is a visual demo of my 1999 Land Cruiser that will not start. I am documenting this issue for users of ih8mud forum.
Thus far, I’ve inspected/tested and still replaced the following:
New fuel pump & fuel pump ECU
New fuel filter (replaced 1yr ago)
New spark plugs & coil packs
New camshaft position sensor
New crank position sensor
New mass airflow sensor
New/complete timing belt (3 months old)
New Mass airflow sensor
I’m waiting for my replacement “ECM” aka main computer to arrive. In addition, I’ve purchased the TechStream adapter and software which should also arrive soon.
If you’ve experienced this issue, please feel free to comment. I apology for any information that may have not been stated correctly but in this video I was also fighting mosquito's.
😬
A FULL BREAK DOWN OF MY ISSUE FROM START TO END IS ALSO DOCUMENTED ON IH8MUD FORUM:

I'm years late but what's the status of the rig..? Ever find the issue or issues
@@zackhoover5171 It was a squirrel, I can't recall if it was the camshaft or crank shaft sensor which it ate through. Found it grounding on the engine block and replaced it and everything was fine.
I did replace a bunch of things as preventive maintenance and also did a whole timing job and then sold the Land Cruiser. Still regret selling it this day. Never had an issue with it but just typical age & maintenance that comes with it's age but she never let me down or stranded.
Food for thought...id toss a new fuel filter and pump..I did that with my 06 runs like a charm
I just switch out my fuel pump and filter new better nothing. Mine start for 5 minutes died. TB is my next check.
Check for "check engine" codes which the LC may not show a check engine light but may have CAM or CRANK sensor code pending.
Mine was a bad wiring grounding, hope you find a resolution to your problem because I nearly replaced everything on this LC 💯
@ I found it my wire to crankshaft position sensor is torn.
@@SteveM_LX470 Good deal, I would rub to the junk yard and cut a wire from a Toyota vehicle that matches the connector type.
Cut the wires enough so if you need to reconnect the wire then you will have enough access to do so.
You might be able to find a universal Toyota wire connector to use online or at a local parts store. Hope for the best!
nice LC I just got one. 1998 100 series 170,000 miles. How many miles are on yours? I looking to starting doing some preventive maintenance as it sat for a while. It was starting fine til today and it would have a long start then fire, or start then turn off. Something I feel will continue and get worse
@@rj8296 I had traded mine and was sold to a dealer whom kept it for their off road vehicle.
Mine at the time had 300k miles and I personally performed the whole timing belt/water pump combo a month before I sold it. That Land Cruiser ran soo good, the dealer couldn’t let it go.
Shucks, even I kick myself for letting it go but it served its purpose indeed 🤟🏾 so you made a very good choice getting one.
Perform all the maintenance as if you know nothing about the prior service records and she will be running find. I definitely recommend a timing belt inspection to see if the belt or teeth have wear which mine did and was jumping teeth when I pressed down on the gas hard.
That jump prompted me to inspect the timing which I found the belt was ripped and timing teeth were missing. Couldn’t believe she was running perfectly fine afterwards which that was my first time learning how to perform a timing belt job but at the cost I had no other option.
Saying all that, you’ll do fine with this Land Cruiser 💯
So it’s not the efi fuse ? This is a old problem that all of the 100 series owner are aware of .
This issue was the camshaft position sensor. While in there, I also had replaced the crankshaft position sensor so I would not have to worry about it down the line.
And when you do the fuel pump....make sure that o ring gets installed....you will have the problem you're having now if you don't...I made that mistake...had to take everything apart again to install the denso supplied o ring...so pissed but glad I did... almost had it towed to the shop
My luxes it's like that I don't now what's the problem
Have you tried using an obd2 scanner to see if you can pull any engine codes?
Check your ground?
Yeah this issue was a bad camshaft position sensor which was replaced and resolved. Thanks
Re checking your timing again, maybe not correct timing
Hello, Bona, thanks. This issue was resolved when I replaced my crankshaft position sensor (chipmunk chewed wire).
@@AWordFromMrJones where is the cam shaft sensor???
@@daddynowski Correction, it was the crankshaft position sensor "wire" that was torn. But I also noticed that the camshaft position sensor was dirty so I ended up replacing crankshaft position sensor & wire plus the camshaft position sensor since it caked with dirt. I could have cleaned the sensor and then maybe had another issue down the line so since I was in there, I decided to knock them both out for preventive maintenance.
Here the video that shows the bad crankshaft position sensor/wire (it's located under the harmonic balancer and can be seen under the LandCruiser):
ua-cam.com/video/QHT_TSlMiVo/v-deo.html
4:26 that's not an crankshaft position sensor that is a camshaft position sensor
Yes sir, I corrected my statement at 4:28 to state Camshaft Position Sensor for the viewers.
Thanks
Where is this fucken cam shaft sensor located 02 sequoia 2uzfe lol I can't find shit on it
Please help stranded
This poor cruiser…
