Same here. I remember redoing the Spyro 3 ps1 during lockdown. I remember just going back to Sunrise Spring to get some more eggs and lives as he was a bugger. I then let my dad try and beat him, and he couldn't. He switched the game off without saving, and I was glad because it meant the lives lost were back. I eventually beat him when the game went into Mercy Mode and beat Scorch on my second try.

A battle awaits us. I will endeavor to assist you by means of a steady provision of combustible projectiles.”
The whole game is in my heart my most recent playthrough was like 3 to 4 years ago and I'm itching to play it again when i get the chance. Maybe I'll finally pick up Reignited

I think that kids today will never understand our struggle for beating him on ps1 because they nerfed him a lot; it’s also much less intimidating and menacing. The remaster is beautiful but the bosses in the original games are just legendaries.

When the guitar starts ripping at the start of this song gives me adrenaline, the music of this boss really put me in the game, I will always love spike's arena, the galactic noises in the background, everything!! Always gives me GOOSEBUMPS

The whole OST obviously was banger after banger and each song complemented the environment & scenery so well... but the boss tracks like this one REALLY take things to another level of inducing an eerie sense of anxiety/dread knowing what u have to fight haha. I remember vividly b4 each boss fight I'd literally internally *gulp* & say 2 myself "ah shit here we go we got this" 😂😂 Also i love that after beating the monsters, it would immediately transition to a heavenly peaceful track of music. Aside from obviously being a masterpiece of a game... the art & sound really make this game a real treasured piece of art.
Not gonna lie, when i first fought Spike, he was legitimately hard to fight. Spike's fast pace movement was a challenge, his lasers were fast too. Of all the bosses, from Crush, Gulp, Ripto, Buzz, Scorch and the Sorceress, Spike was a worthy challenge.

robonaught the only way of escaping his electric ray attack is by using the charge attack and jumping while charging away form the Ray. It is best to start running around the stage far away from Spike even when he’s preparing to attack. Trust me, I did this method and I was able to escape that move
Spike's definitely harder than Scorch, but Scorch's theming and abilities make more sense for the penultimate boss in the game. I think they shoulda made Scorch just notably harder, maybe give him two more hits and some harder to avoid attacks.
This is probably the best track in the whole game. I love this boss fight, it's very difficult but it's fun! As a child, I managed to get good at this boss by just running in circles, then *very* quickly (there were lots of times I'd miss and risked getting shot) run up to a rock and orient myself to hit him and repeat

This boss fight always gave me the creeps, the music was anxiety inducing, and the fight itself was tense as hell! I died so meny times in this that I honestly never reached Evening Lake until I was older.
I remember BARELY making it to Evening Lake as a kid. But after that, I could never get enough gems for Bentley, or enough eggs for the other worlds to open. As an adult, I couldn't tell you why that was, honestly.
What works for me is playing defensively, you cannot take as many hits as Spike can, and you get no fodder. Attack him when it is convenient, otherwise focus on avoiding his attacks.

My brother used to play this game when I was four (I think) and whenever he would play spike I would cry cause Spike scared me 😅 It was the fact that he tried to crush Spyro so many times and he giant 😄

That's only in the Platinum PAL version. Black label PAL used the unfitting Sunrise Spring music.

Spike’s appearance is a combination of a Rhynoc and Ripto. He has a horn on his head very similar to Ripto’s and has the head of a rhino.
In Spyro 2 Season of Flame and Attack of the Rhynocs Ripto actually Commanded the Rhynocs in both those games
