    Hello, creator of the mod here! This is a really good tutorial video that I wish I saw way earlier. This was originally just a thing to install back when I did PS2 repairs, but decided to make it public. I was not expecting it to take off the way it did though. Glad to see it helping people though!

      AHHH WUTSUP!? Thanks so much for watching! Trust me this was a life saver for my slim and so happy I came across it. Thanks so much for your ingenious idea, happy to promote it and spread the word!

      Thanks to your mod, floppy and thanks to your video hylian, I was able to purchase and install this with success. I had my fears of opening up the console and doing this but now that it’s done, I feel so much more at ease knowing my discs will not be getting scratched up. A very simple but very very awesome mod. Thank you two very much!

    Dude I recently made a video on a weird ps2 ball controller, and the game that came with it was brand new sealed. When I pulled it out, there was a ring around it. Man, I checked my ps2 as soon as I started playing this video, sure enough, that ribbon csble be rising! Thanks for the vid and advice, and thanks to the original creator too!

    Not sure where you are, but one of the local retro gaming stores near me does disc resurfacing for about $5/disc. My copy of OG RE2 had a fairly deep scratch that didn't allow me to finish the game (I literally just beat the last boss and the system couldn't load the last cutscene), so I took it over to that place, they resurfaced it, and it worked great! Looked brand new, too. I think some GameStops do it as well. Either way, it's definitely worth looking in to if you're looking to save your copy of FFVII.

    • @hylianlad
      @hylianlad  9 місяців тому

      Thanks for the heads up! I'm in the Boston area and I believe a couple places near me offer this as a service too so I may look into it. Which direction did your scratches go on the disk out of curiosity? The problem with mine is that the scratches from the ribbon are in a ring shape and go completely around the disk in a perfect circle, which is exactly how data is read :/

    I need to do this. I originally just used some plastic clear tape to hold that ribbon end in place so it sits lower.

    This happened to me some years ago. It did happen with a few of my discs before I noticed. Luckily the damage was very small on every disc except for the one I noticed at first. It was a brand new and scratch free disc. But again luckily I happened to have two copies of that exact game, and the others were only very lightly scratced and barely visible. It scared me so much that I softmodded the console and run the games from a USB trough SMB now.

    Pretty cool can probably rig something instead of buying it. Only issue I can see is if the laser dies you might end up breaking it trying to remove it.

    • @hylianlad
      @hylianlad  2 місяці тому +1

      That's a slight concern I have as well down the road. Hoping for a long lifespan for the laser.

    I think the best way to preserve your PS2 and your discs is by using OPL to load games from some other media that's not your discs. It's just a matter of time, these machines aren't as reliable anymore. Today the ribbon cable got faulty, tomorrow the laser might fry up. It's best to move to solid state storage for old consoles that used optical drives, like ODEs and homebrew applications like OPL on the PS2 and Swiss on the GC etc

    And how do i fix it?
    Damn i regret trying to do this now.

    • @hylianlad
      @hylianlad  8 місяців тому

      Yea I wouldn't use tape, depending on how wide the strip is it may force down the ribbon cable too much and halt the laser from properly moving. I'd honestly remove it and try this mod instead.
