FYI: BLACKPINK music videos are, for the most part, shot in-house. Their new company building, built to look like a futuristic space station (Google "New YG building") has 14 floors, five of which are underground to maintain secrecy. They have enormous video studios as well as production offices, music studios, auditorium, dance studios, a food court, honor system convenience store, gym, video game and billiards rooms, (in addition to the company offices of course). For a music video shoot they have all of the sets prepared next to each other, location shoots (not many videos are shot outside the studio) are shot separately. Shooting is normally 3-5 days, shooting both day and night. The girls have said that they get about three hours of sleep a night during video shoots. Aside from scenes with all four girls they alternate shooting solo scenes while the other girls change outfits/hair/makeup. Post production is normally about two weeks before the finished video debuts.
Honestly, K-pop, not just BLACKPINK, has one of the best songs and music productions. They really put the money on these videos cause they look so good and from an editor's perspective, the editing on K-pop videos is amazing! You should react to more, you'll be impressed. Pink Venom - BLACKPINK is a great one too.

👉GUINNES RECORD👈 BLACKPINK's "BORN PINK WORLD TOUR 2022-2023" tour is the largest group tour in history, it has already raised 260 million dollars with 55 dates, the tour has 66 dates so there are still 10 dates left to count, when Counting the 66 dates, they will probably raise 310 million dollars, surpassing the 290 million dollars of the ONE DIRECTION world tour that holds the historical world record, that's how big BLACKPINK is.
ON November 22, 2023, King CHARLES III of the UNITED KINGDOM appointed BLACKPINK as HONORARY MEMBER OF THE ORDER OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE, something that only THE BEATLES and ADELE had achieved, and BLACKPINK is the first non-British singer to achieve it
welcome! the music video renaissance has been in Kpop for a while. They take this very seriously and the production quality is super elevated. your channel has many US artists but I foresee you falling further into Kpop artists. ❤
Probably you should know that the concept of this m/v was the recreation of previous music videos' sets they've had through their career. As someone who knows the references this video was one of my favorite along with the song. You must do more reactions to Blackpink!
My favorite too. For those who follow BP from the start and know their history. It's a master piece - genious. Everything is so well thought off, from samples classical composer Paganini's “La Campanella,”( the violinist who composed out off the box song at his period), the lyrics, the set .... fit BP sooooo well
BLACKPINK with 92,2 million subscribers on UA-cam is officially the artist or singer with the most subscribers in the world. He is also the #1 most streamed artist in the entire history of UA-cam with over 33 billion views on his channel. It is also the girl group with the most streaming in the history of SPOTIFY with 11 billion views, the merit is that they only have 38 songs (adding SOLO, group and collaborations)
Very good reaction. It shows that you pay attention to the details of the production. As several have already told you, in this MV references are made to previous MVs with differences: in this one it rains bills and the cars are expensive 😂. I recommend that you start with their debut: Boombayah and Wisthle so that you can observe the progression in songs and MV's.
BLACKPINK is the biggest girl group of all time, with 307 music awards, it is the most awarded girl group in all history and this past July 4, 2023 they were the main artists at the HYDE PARK festival in London with 65k tickets sold (sold out), being the first kpop act to headline the festival in all of history, the amazing thing is that they only have 38 songs and 7 years of music career.
YG Entertainment, Blackpink's record label, is known for not really using green screen in their mvs. They may use some big digital screen's as background but everything is built practically. This video is both a good and bad one to start with because it has a ton of visual references to previous mv, like the tank, the scene that looks like a pier, the globe Rosé is sitting on, etc. I would recommend going back to one of their debut releases Whistle, it was directed by a well respect kpop mv director Beomjin of VM Project Architecture. The video has this cool constant motion effect, where in most scenes it pans either overhead or side to side that creates this..kinda spherical effect? Hard to explain, but I think it shows something unique. There are a bunch of other really cool or interesting kpop mv's I'd recommend if this post wasn't so long. But keep checking them out!!
All Blackpink videos are eye candy. Their sets are real and they use very small amount of CGI. Check their behind the scenes videos on their channel. Blackpink PINK VEMON and Blackpink KILL THIS LOVE!! here are more videos to blow your mind: DPR IAN - Peanut Putter and Tears XG - Shooting Star
i suggest you to watch the making MV videos later, there you can see the sets and confirm they are build up entirely. Amazing reaction! really loved it ( sorry for my english, its not my first language)
Welcome to Blackpink world. They are the biggest girls group in the world, most important is their MV always crazy and look like a movie. YG always use real stuff and hand built.
BLACKPINK's BORN PINK album is the first and only album by a kpop girl group #1 in sales on the BILLBOARD 200 USA, and the only girl group to be #1 on the BILLBOARD 200 USA in 14 years, it is also the first kpop girl group to have an album in the top 10 global sales of the IFPP in all of history.
Welcome to the best girl group in history and im not joking in terms of awards fame followers everything..all the groups you will react in the future all see them as the peak and want just to reach a glimpse of what this girls have
It's a BlackPink universe and it's a great place to be! You haven't seen anything yet 😀. BlackPink and Star Wars in the same video is almost to much to handle 😂. PLEASE react to more BlackPink!
They are great. React to blackpink - kill this love, dudu du, how you like that, pinkvenum music videos. Shutdown is their simplest music video. Every scene here is throwback to their previous music videos. They use real set pieces, you can react to MV making videos.
yge built a very huge different sets for them, they rarely use green screen. they always use built up sets, the only occasions they use green screen is on their debut mv ''whistle'' and here on this one, ''shutdown''. you should watch or react all of their music videos, their mv's are insane and world class. it is indeed well planned and well executed and the people behind their mv's deserves a raise. i suggest also that you watch their ''mv behind the scenes'' so you will see that their sets are real.
Good reaction. They have behind the scenes of EVERY one of their music videos. Some have numerous behind the scenes. For example, Lisa's solo project Lalisa has a series of 3 behind the scenes UA-cam videos. I think you would really go nuts for their "Pink Venom" music video which is way more off-the charts crazy edited than this one. It is like a religious thing that they don't believe in the use of green screens unless ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
Absolutely loved this reaction and how you explained their creative choices. If you keep reacting to BP MV's I'm going to have no choice but to subscribe.
BTW BlackPink now has 2 M/V's surpassing 1.9B views. EVERYTHING is a reference to their past M/V's... I Love how they did that with the sets, even to the billboards, signs, and graffiti "Shut Down"... They are saying don't forget where we came from but WE ARE STILL HERE, STILL ON TOP and Turning the Page to Begin a NEW CHAPTER. New floor, New opertunities, More Space for MORE CONTENT The song samples classical composer Paganini's “La Campanella,” amazing combination of classical music with hip hop beats. The Doberman's name is Love, and he is Lisa's puppy.
Great reaction to a great track...the first ever big hip hop hit using a 6/8 beat...basically a waltze. This is a masterpiece. I appreciate your keen editing eye reaction. They do have behind the scenes videos for most of their music vids. The company YG entertainment is renowned for their visuals, etc. I look forward to your reaction to the other mv, Pink Venom, off this album. I don't recommend reading the lyrics first in Pink Venom.....either click the cc's for good translation or just go through the lyrics afterwards. With that said, the lyrics in Shut Down were very good...and they were paying homage to their previous music, whereas in PV, they are paying homage to 50 years of hip hop. Thanks again...subscribed
Almost every scene in this MV (except for the white garage) was taken from one of their earlier videos. Even the fangs you noticed on their masks came fromPink Venom. Others will do a better job listing all the homages paid. 71 year old Blink. Oh yes, they are even better live!
I've been watching your videos occassionally, but now that you discovered BlackPink...I hit the subscribed button, definitely wanna see more of them from you. Be ready!
Thank you so much! I watched this song for the first time with you and enjoyed it, but I am familiar with this group. This music video had compilations of moments from their very first music videos and it was sweet to see them recall their origins. So cool!
They are amazing all there MV are great I never get tired of watching them , you should also check out the song they put out before this one ( Pink Venom ) it will blow your mind to, but I thing they all would.
Hi, wc to Blackpink! Shutdown was actually their simplest MV bec Blackpink was known to have the best MV's in terms of video quality, editing, set creations and all. They set the standard on how an MV should looked like and never settled for less, thus the 90+ million subs. Shutdown was from their latest album and was a shoutout to their hits songs. So you might want to check out the real magic by watching their previous MV's, they have Ddu,Ddu,Ddu,Ddu, How You Like That, LoveSick Girls, Pink Venom. Thanks again for reacting!
At 7:50 they digitally colored the black match Jeni is holding so it's pink. Also, the black/pink jeweled heart on the side table is also used in Kill This Love.
Yes, at 11:02 when she threw the photo at the camera, the camera was only about 24 inches away, and polaroid pictures are somewhat heavy, so she did throw it, as can be seen in one of their "how it was made" videos. At 10:45 the wall graphic in the background is from another of their videos. They re-use and re-purpose quite a lot of of the set pieces in many of their videos. You might want to check out their first two videos (2016), Whistle and Boom Bay Yah.
this is the one of the simple MV of blackpink! actually they have a lot of high production music videos and they are famous about that. u should check out more Blackpink🙂
Their music videos are insane. I would recommend "how you like that", "kill this love" and "DDU DU DDU DU". You will be able to see some of the references that were in this video.
Welcome to the rabbit hole. I hope the Blinks (Blackpink fans) are kind to you. On their YT channel, most of their M/V's have "Making Of" videos, and most of them have English CC's. They're a lot of fun, but they don't really show an awful lot of the technical BTS work, focusing instead on fun with the girls. Shut Down is their most recent official "real" group M/V, though there is a more recent one for their video game (featuring game characters), and some M/V's for solo work. All of their M/V's are expensive, and they don't use green screen. Real sets, video screens, and post work, but no green screen. The only exception is one of their debut songs from 2016, Whistle (and only for small bits). We are all on pins and needles waiting to see what comes next. They just finished a massive year-long+ world tour. More importantly Korean Idol contracts are for 7 years from debut, so they are currently unsigned. There is too much money to be made for nothing to happen, but hopefully agreements can be made to keep all of them (and their producer) together.
Good information. About the 7-year contract thing, though, the truth is that nobody outside of their label (YG) and the group really knows what their current contract situation is. Kpop gossip media keeps repeating that their contracts expired on August 8th of this year because that's the 7th anniversary of their debut date (i.e. the date that Boombayah and Whistle were released to the public). But YG has literally NEVER confirmed this. Plus the 7-year thing is a feature of Korean law that simply makes contracts with artists unenforceable against the artists for a period of longer than 7 years (the purpose of which is to prevent abusive situations where artists are stuck with bad terms and conditions for extremely long periods, based on the weak bargaining position they had when they were just starting out)...even if the contract is stated to be for a longer period. IIRC, the contract would ordinarily not have to start on the debut date. In fact that would be weird because they have to work under contract as a group for a long time prior to the actual debut. The contract can also be renewed (and YG wouldn't necessarily announce that) at any time after debut, if all parties agree. Most of YG's artist contracts in the past haven't been pegged to the debut date. For example, when Lee Hi left YG, it was announced that her exclusive contract was timed to end on December 31, 2019...which was a date that had no connection to her October 2012 official debut. In fact, Lee Hi had been under two contracts with YG before she left. Her first one started around May 2012...then AFTER her very successful debut, YG and Lee Hi entered into a 10-year contract before her album was released in March 2013. The 10-year contract was probably signed on December 31, 2012 because Lee Hi left exactly 7 years later. Since the Korean law against so-called "slave contracts" is designed to protect the artists, it's possible that the artists can choose to continue working under an existing longer contract even after the 7 year limit has been exceeded, and in such case the company will still be obligated to abide by the contract for as long as the artists continue to choose to work under it. In any case, August 8th came and went, without any mention of contract problems or complications from YG or any of the BP members and they continued their concert tour for a full month after that, according to their original schedule and even have a M E T A concert scheduled for later this month. Bottom line: We still don't really know what their contract situation is and only know that they are negotiating (apparently without any big urgency) in anticipation of some future decision date.
@@TEAM__POSEID0N I agree that nobody knows the exact details, but their original contracts have definitely run out. YG has confirmed that there are negotiations ongoing. It's actually in the news today that they have agreed to continue as a group with YG, but are not signing exclusive solo rights with them (so they can freely do side projects). It's even rumoured that 2 members have signed the group deal. But this continues to be unconfirmed, with YG still saying nothing is settled. Thanks for the in-depth info, though. The best ways to put this all to rest will be a confirmation from YG that a deal is reached, or just some new music being released.
@@neilshackleton89 "It's actually in the news today that they have agreed to continue as a group with YG, but are not signing exclusive solo rights." Since nothing like this has yet been confirmed by YG, even though Kpop-related media "news" has made a report like this, it sounds like all they are doing is recycling the "news" that was reported in the Munhwa Ilbo article last week, which in the headline and first couple of paragraphs made it sound like they had solid information. But I went and read the entire article and it turned out to be the same as everything else for the past year...just some anonymous person only identified as "a person connected to the music industry" making guesses. Toward the end of the article, they even admitted that they had no confirmation whatsoever from YG about anything, including the exclusive/non-exclusive arrangements (that also is just somebody guessing that they COULD do something like that). Of course you're certainly right that their original contract will have already reached the 7-year limit (but we don't really even know how long the original contract period was). Unfortunately, that doesn't tell us one way or another whether they are currently under an extension or new contract that replaced the original. As I mentioned, Lee Hi's original contract was replaced by a 10-year exclusive contract about 3 months AFTER her debut...so her original contract really didn't even last a full year. She then left after 7 years under her second contract because she could...due to the Korean law that allows an idol to get out after 7 years (and of course YG didn't try to fight her because they knew they had kept her in the dungeon for way too long). It's entirely possible that whatever contract or extension BP members are under now, won't actually end until the end of this year...or possibly even later. A lot of the Kpop gossip media are trying to make a big deal out of how the BP members are doing a lot of separate things lately (like Lisa often going by herself to different places). But I don't think that really has anything at all to do with their contract situation. They just finished an extremely exhausting, busy year-long concert tour with 70 performances in 26 countries, a schedule that was so demanding that they really couldn't focus on anything else. So of course now they're going to take as much of a break as possible for a couple of months, including just going off on their own to meet other people and do things they want to as individuals. You're right that YG is really the only one who can put all the rumors to rest. Some or all of the rumors going around these days could be true, I guess. (Well, not all of them, since they often contradict each other.) But the Kpop gossip media has really gotten carried away during the past several months, always acting like they have hot new information on the "contract situation", almost daily...when it always turns out that they don't really have any real information.
Shut down mv was like an homage to their 7 years of music. I suggest you watch their other mvs chronologically then go back to shut down for a better appreciation hehe
I loved your analyse on this video ! K-pop has in general so many great mvs it’s actually mind blowing, i recommend a group named Gidle that did Nxde that is a masterpiece and has a lot of popular cultural references such as Maryline Monroe or Banksy, I think you’ll like it
The slicing of word "Record", they had a screen behind her and did the effect on sceen... YGE has their own facility, and people in house. The do reuse props from time to time.
There are videos of the making of their MV's. No green screens!!! The Korean productions teams are the best in the world right. Along with hair styling, makeup, dress and bling!!
By the way, if you're interested, they use the globe in another of their videos, and it's green screen. And, the truck behind the door with Lisa in it is also used in another of their videos. Oh... and the black "match", or whatever that Jennie is holding, is a regular colored flame, but somehow they made it look pink.
Its nice to know the technical things from a professional like you. Yeah every Music Video has behind the scene but those are short video probably like 5-6 minutes. Here only one scene may be they used Green Screen- When Rosé' sitting on the Globe other then that all are real sets. 99% times they uses real set. I suggest you to watch the Music Video of "Pink Venom", "How You Like That", "Kill This Love" & DDU DU DDU DU", I hope you will be amazed.
All kpop videos have a making off/behind the scenes videos. I would almost suggest you watch those first and then the actual video to see how it all came together. Please!
This music video is mostly foreshadowing their previous ones and you will understand it more if you watch the other music videos like Playing With Fire, Boombayah, Whistle, etc.

They only have 40 songs but their level and quality is so superior that that alone is enough to become the biggest girl group in history.
The songs that DO NOT have a music video (as they do not have subtitles) I recommend that you watch them in COLOR CODED LYRICS, look for it on UA-cam, they are the same songs but with a translation and on the screen they show who of the 4 is singing.
👉GUINNES RECORD👈
BLACKPINK's "BORN PINK WORLD TOUR 2022-2023" tour is the largest group tour in history, it has already raised 260 million dollars with 55 dates, the tour has 66 dates so there are still 10 dates left to count, when Counting the 66 dates, they will probably raise 310 million dollars, surpassing the 290 million dollars of the ONE DIRECTION world tour that holds the historical world record, that's how big BLACKPINK is.
Everything is so well thought off, from samples classical composer Paganini's “La Campanella,”( the violinist who composed out off the box song at his period), the lyrics, the set .... fit BP sooooo well
What are you watching you asked? Four very special ladies providing us with damn near perfection. I'm so hooked. I adore them so much!
BLACKPINK with 92,2 million subscribers on UA-cam is officially the artist or singer with the most subscribers in the world.
He is also the #1 most streamed artist in the entire history of UA-cam with over 33 billion views on his channel.
It is also the girl group with the most streaming in the history of SPOTIFY with 11 billion views, the merit is that they only have 38 songs (adding SOLO, group and collaborations)
no word, just many many
Very good reaction.
Blackpink PINK VEMON and Blackpink KILL THIS LOVE!!
here are more videos to blow your mind:
DPR IAN - Peanut Putter and Tears
XG - Shooting Star
i suggest you to watch the making MV videos later, there you can see the sets and confirm they are build up entirely. Amazing reaction! really loved it ( sorry for my english, its not my first language)
Please keep reacting to Blackpink! 🖤
PLEASE react to more BlackPink!
wait to see their PINK VENOM music video :D at least 30 min breakdown video
They are great.
React to blackpink - kill this love, dudu du, how you like that, pinkvenum music videos.
Shutdown is their simplest music video.
Every scene here is throwback to their previous music videos.
They use real set pieces, you can react to MV making videos.
Love it when you throw in a post, credit scene, Josh!
The all reference in ddu du ddu du,kill this love, playing with fire, boombayah, lovesick girls, boombayah
yge built a very huge different sets for them, they rarely use green screen. they always use built up sets, the only occasions they use green screen is on their debut mv ''whistle'' and here on this one, ''shutdown''. you should watch or react all of their music videos, their mv's are insane and world class. it is indeed well planned and well executed and the people behind their mv's deserves a raise. i suggest also that you watch their ''mv behind the scenes'' so you will see that their sets are real.
also those 4 roll ups are real and every members has one as their own set. they have 4 different roll ups built for each member's own set.
Cant wait for your next reaction of them! They are so good im so glad u liked them!
please react to Pink Venom too, its their most expensive MV so far (also they dont use green screen)
Josh you are a gem!
Thank you so much!!!
I loved this!! Thank you for reacting to Blackpink!🥰 If you have time please check out more❤️
Good reaction. It is like a religious thing that they don't believe in the use of green screens unless ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
welcome to the KPOP MV world, there's no coming back 😌
All of BLACKPINK's music videos are real scenes, they also provide video footage, check it out!
My favorite blackpink song tally , stay , as if it is your last, and shut down❤❤🎉
Absolutely loved this reaction and how you explained their creative choices. If you keep reacting to BP MV's I'm going to have no choice but to subscribe.
React to Blackpink Shut down live at Coachella
You: that was incredible
Me: I KNOW! They’re amazing!
Lol I bet you spent at least half a day singing “blackpink in your area”
You know it! lol
BTW BlackPink now has 2 M/V's surpassing 1.9B views.
EVERYTHING is a reference to their past M/V's... I Love how they did that with the sets, even to the billboards, signs, and graffiti
"Shut Down"... They are saying don't forget where we came from but WE ARE STILL HERE, STILL ON TOP and Turning the Page to Begin a NEW CHAPTER.
New floor, New opertunities, More Space for MORE CONTENT
The song samples classical composer Paganini's “La Campanella,” amazing combination of classical music with hip hop beats.
The Doberman's name is Love, and he is Lisa's puppy.
Amazing song👑🔥 Lisa is my bias
Thank you more blackpink please ❤
TEDDY,been with them since the beginning
I love that you did Blackpink finally!!! I like the music video for “Lovesick Girls”, “Ddu Ddu Ddu” and “Kill This Love”
Welcome to BlackPink ❤😊
We love #Blackpink 🖤💗
oh the rabbit hole of Blackpink. you should react to more of their videos
Pink venom, How you like that and Kill this love absolutely
YES, the set pieces are built. Blackpink has only ever used greenscreen in their videos a couple of times overall, the rest is all practical effects.
Kpop is just next level with music videos.
I enjoyed your reaction to BP. More Blackpink please.
They always have sets like this, you can also watch their “Behind the Scenes” it’s pretty interesting!
Blackpink renovó contrato 🥹
this is also my 1st time to watch such an editor that disects the video..on point....good job sir...👍👍
this is the one of the simple MV of blackpink! actually they have a lot of high production music videos and they are famous about that. u should check out more Blackpink🙂
More black pink please ❤❤❤
you can enable the captions for the lyrics. I liked your reaction very much !!
Thank you so much!! I’ll make sure and do that next time!
You're watching the Greatest of all time BLACKPINK
Their music videos are insane. I would recommend "how you like that", "kill this love" and "DDU DU DDU DU". You will be able to see some of the references that were in this video.
Yeah you need to see the behind the scenes making "Shut Down" MV video.
PLEASE more Blackpink videos!!!
K-pop has in general so many great mvs it’s actually mind blowing, i recommend a group named Gidle that did Nxde that is a masterpiece and has a lot of popular cultural references such as Maryline Monroe or Banksy, I think you’ll like it
You were so 🤯 in almost every scene haha. Welcome to the pink world. Also, this is cliché but please I need more blackpink reactions 🖤💖
Reacting to BLACKPINK debut songs - BOOMBAYAH And WHISTLE
The slicing of word "Record", they had a screen behind her and did the effect on sceen...
YGE has their own facility, and people in house. The do reuse props from time to time.
There are videos of the making of their MV's. No green screens!!! The Korean productions teams are the best in the world right. Along with hair styling, makeup, dress and bling!!
PINK VENOM is a must!
more blackpink song❤❤😊
I love your reaction videos for #Blackpink
By the way, if you're interested, they use the globe in another of their videos, and it's green screen. And, the truck behind the door with Lisa in it is also used in another of their videos. Oh... and the black "match", or whatever that Jennie is holding, is a regular colored flame, but somehow they made it look pink.
Cannot wait for you to watch Pink Venom and the sets/edits there!
oh bro, this rabbit hole is so deep, recommend kill this love!
More Blackpink pleaseeeee
All kpop videos have a making off/behind the scenes videos. I would almost suggest you watch those first and then the actual video to see how it all came together. Please!
This music video is mostly foreshadowing their previous ones and you will understand it more if you watch the other music videos like Playing With Fire, Boombayah, Whistle, etc.
