- A review of the toy Pod Vehicles from Thunderbirds.
They were made by Hot Wheels and Bandai for the Aoshima Thunderbird 2, which is made in Japan.
This is the first time I've done a review so no rude comments.
Sun Probe WAS the best Thunderbirds episode. I am planning a Sun Probe day on December 9, the 50th anniversary of the original broadcast (which I watched). Anyway, I have just spent a small fortune buying all three sets from Amazon UK/US. I suppose I should have watched this before I pressed the order button, but if anything you excellent film has made me more pleased with my decision. Thank you.
What totally bugs me is that caterpillar tracks are nowadays almost always molded in one piece. OK, one tende to lose them on the old models, at the latest when they got brittle. The otherwise excellent bigger Matchbox Moles tracks lasted very short. I actually had to restore those on mine by adding tape on the inside. This Mole however has no wheels at all! Yet the hooverbikes have "'wheels". The mind boggles! Still this stuff is nice. Like you say: At least they are available at all.

Nice reviews. In regards to the DOMO, its proper name is the Demolition Object Moving Operator, although onscreen it was called the restraining outfit. nice bit of trivia on the Mobile crane. Did you know that the Excavator and DOMO model appeared in Captain Scarlet as well. It appeared as a tractor in "Renegade rocket", for that, they took the arms off, moved the cab forward and repainted the model yellow . BTW the Excavator is my favourite, followed by the Mole.
Ok, bought the second set at Comic-Con yesterday. The detail on the vehicles is incredible!

I got all the soundtech ones. And Tracy Island. And the supersize TB1, 2, 3 and 4. Have a look at collection number 4 video. You'll love it. :)
Here’s a random thought if a pulp hero ended up in the Gerry Anderson universe who would it be and who would he or she team up with ?
Me I’m going for the avenger and throwing him in to joe 90 imagine if joe got the Brian waves of a pulp hero .
Sorry yes the thunderbird 2 electronic playset pod is the exact same as the supersize thunderbird 2 that also can come with the mole and firefly with it.
DalekSram Nice review. I do like these vehicle sets. For me, the draw was the Transmitter Truck, The Fire Truck, and the brothers on their hoverbikes. Would have been nice of them to include the Monobrake rather than the somewhat blander Mobile Crane.
William Schwartz They probably omitted the Monobrake because it didn't show any working features in the episode it appeared in. I know the cross-section books say it has an arm that attaches to the monorail, but we never saw that onscreen. Personally, I think it's a pity they didn't do a 4th set, with the Monobrake, Neutraliser tractor, Jet Air Transporter, Fire Tender and Gordon figure. Also, I read that the DOMO's magnets were acutally toy gun darts! it's a pity no manufacturer takes advantage of this, and make a DOMO with working suction cups.
class87fan I agree with you on all counts. In regards to the cross section data; it's true we're given much more to consider where the pod vehicles are concerned. There's a very nice fire tender that's included in one of the Takara pod vehicle sets. The Takara Pod vehicle sets are brilliant to say the least.
Yeah, pity they left out Firefly and the DOMO though. Still, Japan sure knows how to make Thunderbirds models!

William Schwartz Man, I love the design of the Transmitter Truck and The Fire Truck. But my favorite of all is the Gray & Houseman Construction CO Explosives Tractor/Truck. Anyone know if it's available as a figure/toy ? If so, I gotta have it; that vehicle was like my entire childhood.

I have the Matchbox Thunderbirds 1, 2, 3, 4 and FAB 1 and the soundtech Thunderbird 5.
No but they should fit inside the Thunderbird 2 Electronic Playset pod.

Hi Dalek I live in the united kingdom do you know any where I can get pod mashins?
What about the large soundtech thunderbird 2?
Would all the pod vehicles fit in a soundtech thunderbird 2 size that goes with the soundtech tracy island?
I figure Thunderbird 4, the Booster Mortar and Laser Cutter Vehicle will fit, the others are a bit too big. They'll work with the supersize Thunderbird 2 though.
Both thunderbird 2's are different sizes.
