I'm a female and every male I've talked to about my Jeep tells me I'm just a dumb female and don't know anything about vehicles when I try to explain to them about the lever/switch in the transmission shifter preventing it from starting!! I have had problems with it for a while and now it won't start at all which leads me to believe that it's completely out or the starter needs replaced!! ✌🐢
How do you know its not the Ignition switch?? My 2000 XJ intermittently wont start. No crank no click nothing. Then sometimes (most of the time it will just start right up) Starter was replaced 4 months ago.
My 96 with the Ax-15 does not have a clutch interlock on the starter. I leaned in to start it, not noticing that it was in gear, and the B pillar punched me in the face as the jeep lurched forward.

The last starter i bought was $300+,but that was 50,000 miles ago & the '89XJ is still going.

a 96 would normally have a CSS, some previous owner must have bypassed it
