Ok so im NOT japanese, but my understanding is that yankee is a derogatory term mostly interchangeable with delinquent / rebel / troublemaker (like loui said), but thats just from context (aka a lot of manga lol). Afaik its not a slur but i can see why certain contexts might make it sound like one, depending on when it's used. (Like i def wouldnt use this term as a non native speaker is what im saying.) Idk im sure someone in the og video has a better clarification. Also i always assumed it originated from a loose understanding of US history, that or a mildly racist view of westerners in general.

Lol i guess i feel talkative today. Do i think she deserved to be cancelled to that extent? Tbh idk. Celebrity scandals occur because the public gave them that celebrity status in the first place. I still think about how as a fan i run the risk of becoming a fanatic at any moment. On the side of the public, i think we just care too much about the "wrong" things. But maybe thats why we get so angry and defensive about the scandalous aftermath-- these were supposed to be low stakes hobbies that brought joy, and it feels like being betrayed when that originally simple pleasure becomes complicated. (Yes, this is also lowkey a commentary on capitalism and consumerism, but basically the same thing as the attention economy.) So idk, i think i wouldnt normally be invested in this if it werent for your commentary or stephanie's storytelling.
