    David: Thanks for teaching to stay calm. I started two hives on 4/30 but 4 days after the queens were released I didn't see any eggs and I could not find the queen in one of the hives. The challenge was I was using white premade white comb so I really could not see the eggs. But I remember you saying stay calm so I knew if I checked in 7 more days I would have capped brood. I did and the healthy hive had everything, the other one I could not find the queen, I didn't have any eggs or capped brood, and they were making queen cups. They had dry multiple eggs in the cups so I was concerned about a laying worker. I quickly called my local bee shop and bought a new queen. I removed the queen cups and hung her for 3 days and by the time I released her the bees had almost chewed her out of the cage. They readily accepted her and today 7 days after release I have eggs & wet brood. Here's the interesting thing, I have capped over drone brood and only capped drone brood, I have to wonder if the nurse bees started feeding the eggs from my laying worker. Again I've only had a queen for 7 days so these aren't her drones.
    I could have panicked. but thanks to your advanced class and your continued tutelage, I made a plan, implemented it and my hive is back to being queen-right and my laying worker, if I had one, seems to have stopped as I don't have any multiple egg cells
    Thanks David!

    Hi David . i enjoy watching your bee videos and looking to see what questions people ask you. ive noticed you have not commented on many since 5 mos ago. i hope you are well . also consider people look up to you and feel ignored when you dont comment back. they may wonder if their question was dumb or that you did not have an answer. therefore they may consider your bee course not valuable as you do or i do. i will keep watching .

    So if we have new nuks we should be able to determine if we have good laying queens within a few weeks? Should we have 2 frames of brood or more at any one time? This ends our 3rd beekeeping season. Each season was better than the last but all ended bad. This season ended in all 3 hives absconding due to yellow jacket invasion. The first nuk had a poor queen and we didnt know it. How do we know if the bee sellers sell to us their poor laying queens in nuks ? In 3 seasons we have never really had great sized hives like i see on line. The 2nd and 3rd season had no mites or beetles or any noted abnormalities and still we did not have the bee numbers as we see in peoples videos. My thought is we are not getting strong queens with the nuks and our experience and knowledge is lacking. How soon after getting a nuk should we know if we should replace a queen.

    Hi David thanks for the videos! So I installed a package in a new hive. I took the queen cage out and put the package upside down and covered the 2 boxes. Checked a few days later and they were still in the package. Now they are building inside the package and I can't get them out!?! Will they eventually move down to the frames? Have you ever seen this? Thank you!

    Question, I found a bee with deformed wings and researched and found its DWV. How do I treat? I read its from Varoa but I the Apiary I got my Nucs from said they have been treated. Should I treat again before I put supers on?

    Hi David. I had a strong hive swarm 14 days ago. I was able to capture and hive the swarm. When I checked the mother hive I found many capped swarm cells and made two small splits but left most of the cells in the "mother hive" Today there is quite a bit of activity from Drone bees. I suspect they are waiting for the young queen to take her mating flight. Is that what I am seeing? I don't want to stir the hive up too much and fear damaging the young queen bee before she can get mated.

    • @beek
      @beek  2 роки тому +1

      Drones are busy in the afternoon in every hive. Virgin queens will NOT mate with drones from their own colony, those are her brothers.

    Very Help David. Thank you.
    David, I have a question. My hive is packed and very robust and healthy. Every afternoon thousands of bee are coming outside to the front and hanging out and bearding. Yet I see a lot of bees cleaning and rotating their abdomens in like a swirly figure 8. I've been told my others this is a sign of robbing activity--yet our flow is on right now--we would not have robbing activity? What are they doing? Could this be the bees coming home full of nectar swirling their abdomens to center the fluid? Confused?
