To me, the bizarre and eerie bumpers were the glue that bind together the whole experience of staying up past your bed time and watching shows you weren't supposed to. The bumpers felt random, but at the same time, completely intentional, like it was controlled randomness.

I love bumpers something fierce. They are so well done. The music, the urban photos, the humorous statements.
I even like The Dawn is Your Enemy one, since if you’re a night owl, the dawn feels like your enemy since the night feels safe and full of solitude but with the dawn comes the living world.

It's the background music vibes that give life to those bumpers, especially the ones from Japan.
Glad to see someone make a video about this topic! I don't watch much adult-oriented media (King of the Hill, Family Guy, etc.), but I've had a fascination with Adult Swim's bumpers. They put such a unique spin on a concept like bumpers and ran with it incredibly; I enjoy seeing all the different takes they do with live-action videos, still images, etc. Personally, I like the white text on the black background the most. Great video!
the film reel bumpers were actually mostly for adult swim's action anime block in 2005
I hated "The Dawn is Your Enemy" bumper and would often switch channels at around 6 AM to avoid it lmao. It was great that Disney Channel was the next channel up from Cartoon Network haha. Man.. memories of staying up ALL night on the computer with Adult Swim playing away in the background.

Great video, I started watching adult swim from it's first broadcast back in '01. The old people in the people with the sort of latin dance music and the guy yelling "ADULT SWIM" through a megaphone always stayed with me, along with the earliest Adult Swim action bumpers from 2002-2003 with a sort of Toonami style to them. I fell off with watching AS by the late '00s so I only briefly saw many of the bumpers you mentioned if I happened to be watching by that time. Still to this day if someone mentions something being specifically for adults I hear that Dust Devil D-Code song play in my head for a moment.

The only note I would like to make is that CN studios was originally Hannah-Babera owned by Turner before being sold to WB. Otherwise absolutely on point AF.
ETA: they admitted that basically the reason the block would get so bizarre as it went on into the night was to mess with stoners and college kids coming back from parties or who couldn't sleep. The idea was to become more and more of a fever dream as it drags on.

I don't know if anybody else knows this, it feels long gone. but I remember a bumper that is just more disturbing than the "the dawn is your enemy".
I remember I was watching adult swim and I saw a start of a ARG where there was some cryptic text on screen (possibly codes), off set music before a single frame of someone face skin and all stretched out all around the screen like that queen in doctor who (Cassandra O'Brien.Δ17)
it was really fleshy and kinda disturbing as it still sticks to me today as something unsettling.
is this still known? also, i mildly regret looking up Cassandra O'Brien.Δ17 again. i hope I don't do that again.
