Did this type of repair a million times on Holdens (GMH ) Australian made engines.
I would pressure test maximum 45lbs. Head castings are not pressure vessels.
Then a hydrostatic test with seal up in the water.

I had a Ford ranger head gasket job and it ended up being a crack. It was going to the head bolt hole. I drilled and tapped it then welded the chamber. Not a recommended repair from me but they didn’t care. They wanted something fast and cheap. Its been 2 years and its still good.

Dang I got a 1998 ford ranger 4.0 V6 4×4 I've already had to put 4 sets of cylinder heads on because of cylinder head crack's, this was a very poor design by ford you'd think maybe only 1 side would crack but no both cylinder heads hair line crack's! I would get rid of it but it's a nice truck and better than paying payments at today's prices!!! I just paid $3100 for getting the old heads checked, for both new cylinder heads, head bolt set and head gasket set, new plugs and wires and coil and oil change and new coolant!! I wish I could have this done to mine it would save a ton of money!

@edsmachine93 If you look up mile 0 of the Alaska highway, you will see Dawson Creek bc Canada. We are 15 hours north east of Vancouver. I'm in the middle of nowhere, lol. I want this engine to run 1000 rpm to 5000 rpm. With the big heads, a lot of people say to get the best out of them is to put a stroker kit in them. Have you built many of these engines. DOAE-L block 4V small dot closed chamber heads.

I have built some small chamber 351 4V heads.
Machined some blocks.
No harder than you want to run this I would not think that you would need a stroker.
My Grandad helped build the AlCan Highway.
@edsmachine93 that's awesome, so he might have been here in this town so cool. Ya, I am not a believer in running a street engine past 5000 rpm light to light. I want my torque to be around 1000 to 5000 max. I will not run an engine past that I want it to live for a long time. I do not think many people know how much mass it is to move an engine at 6k rpm.
Top notch. So you stop the spread with the plugs and then the actual crack was cut out with the seat material???
I always wondered how Machinist's plugged in the bowl, it seemed like an annoying angle 😕

The seat sets on the top and the side of the repair.
Sometime requires different techniques.
And yes, the bowls can be challenging.

Ugh, i'm betting a 4.0L junker? The 2.9's cracked in the spring area. We never fixed them, just sold the customer new aftermarket castings to gaurantee we didn't get a comeback.

Spring seat were ok.

Would this type of repair work with a crarck between 2 valve seats and would you be able to go a little more in depth with the plug? Did you you drill and tap into the crack to insert the plug? I got a 2 94 heads that each have 2 cracks along between the valves on cyl 1 and 3 as well as 4 and 6

Yes, I did drill and tap in the crack install pin.
Cracks between the seat are sometimes troublesome.
It can be bad.
Sometimes requires a different technique.
And sometimes not worth it.
Spray welding can be the solution to fix those cracks.
I do not do that service.
It has gotten expensive do to the fact the powders have gotten expensive.
Sometimes not cost effective.

The plugs are Irontite, you should be able to get at Goodson Products.
You will need the special taper reamer and tap.
