    I'm not a huge Western fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed this and can't wait for the next installment! I saw it in the theater because I wanted to reward his effort.

    I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t think this movie is a western, but a historically authentic period film.
    Like it isn’t about any “western tropes” at all. It’s covering a large portion of manifest destiny. Hell the town of horizon is the movies stand in symbolism name for manifest destiny.

    • @indianajim
      @indianajim  Місяць тому +2

      @@triplec3217 Yeah, you’re right, it’s not a Western in the sense of classic tropes. You don’t have the high drama of a Tombstone or Unforgiven that can be leaned into in the marketing. I really feel like the era of streaming makes people want to wait, and so the decision to wait on part 2. I believe current audience buzz will make people curious, so we’ll see.

    I recently just got into the whole Western lore since after I played RDR2. In my opinion westerns are really good. I have not seen this movie yet but I am looking forward to it. I am a millennial and I do not get why some people can't say they can't "keep up" on the story. I guess maybe these critics (not all) have too much on their plate with their eyes on their phone sceens and the tiktok generation with 6-10 second videos in a snap. I've learned to appreciate slow burn movies such as Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049. I had the best experience when watching Blade Runner 2049 in theatres and I didn't even know the lore at the time.
    Same goes for western films, if you're lucky to strike gold or a hidden gem, I'm hoping the attention span for most average viewers would improve and not listen to what others say through just a score. I would rather watch it first and then see if I enjoyed myself and the experience. People tend to over simplify things these days.

    Historic continuity and epic cinematography more than made up for slow character development. Last movie I saw in the theater was “Let him Go”. I look forward to the next three installments.
    When they uncrated the Trapdoor Springfields for the cavalry, that is attention to detail. Costner has assembled a quality body of work. Definitely go see this in the cinema.

      @@DavidNefelimSlayer I wouldn’t even say it was slow, but deliberate. There weren’t any character shortcuts, it moved at a pace that made sense. Costner definitely knows his stuff, though, especially when it comes to historical details.

    I watched it last night streaming it. I have to say I thought the dialogue was dreadful. The vista seemed artificial, almost painted. Really difficult to understand the character that Costner portrayed. Who is this guy? I had high hopes for this movie but was really disappointed. There have been many westerns that portrayed the beautiful vistas of the west. This isn't one of them.

  • @kevincrain7499
    @kevincrain7499 Місяць тому +1

    I completely disagree, the movie at best had some beautiful scenic scenes , but this movie will flop because it's so bad , so bad that that the other saga's to follow that might be better , probably won't have a chance. The movie jumped around so much , it was confusing to what was going on. When the Indians attacked the homesteaders , half the men ran away like cowards while their fellow men , women , and children , were slaughtered . Towards the end of the movie it had a bunch of random scenes that ended the movie leaving you more confused. If the movie was good , it would of been worth watching the 3 hour movie , but it wasn't. You cannot compare this movie to Open Range or Dances With Wolves, but you can with Water World. I'm glad i didn't have to pay to see this movie , because i would of been more disappointed .All investments will be lost , i'm sorry to say, because i have enjoyed a lot of Kevin's Costner's movies. I'm sorry folks, but i'm sure most everyone will agree to my disappointing review.

    • @indianajim
      @indianajim  Місяць тому +1

      The "random scenes at the end" were clearly a preview for the next film, and the movie doesn't spell that out for you. I don't know how you were confused by what was going on but to each their own. And you can't say "most everyone will agree" because most audience reactions are actually quite positive.

      @@indianajim Top Gun: Maverick was wildly overrated -- and so was Oppenheimer. What do those movies have in common with Horizon? An increasingly problematic trend in our culture is that people want to believe something is better than what it actually is (and same goes for people they believe in). Now, you may be sincere in your love for this movie (just as there are those who are sincere in their love for Top Gun and Oppenheimer). But those anomalies don't change the fact that standards have been lowered to such an extreme that people have forgotten (or never knew) what quality and integrity really look like. I love westerns and appreciate the bulk of Coster's work, but I felt Horizon was completely forgettable and couldn't wait for it to be over (same for Top Gun: Maverick and Oppenheimer). To be sure, it is "to each his own" when it comes to movies and much more. But what I wrote about the decline in standards is a demonstrably provable fact. Look around!
