Stanley's memory needs a recheck. Vietnam wasn't in "full swing" in 1970; the Marines were already gone and there were only two fights with ground forces which were left; Cambodia and Ripcord. By the time he was trained, he'd have missed both which were finished by mid-summer. But, he wasn't even eligible for the draft since the lottery had been implemented --- no one was eligible but for the single year he turned 19. Stanley would have been 17 or 18 when he graduated, meaning he wasn't even eligible until 1971-72. By then, with virtually no ground forces left in country, the USAF had picked up the tab, and the Air Force never used draftees
MNPD3: While there may have been some reduction in overall fighting and total forces, that is not what he public perceived and there is no way Stanley could "know" that he would be 'safe". In fact public furor over Vietnam reached a peak in 1971.

There's always a way to game the system. Lots of people volunteered for branches based on the odds of not being sent to Nam, or what they'd likely be doing over there. I have a friend who's dad volunteered for the AF (went anyway and survived getting his plane shot down) just ahead of getting drafted by the army. The MP's came looking for him---im AIR FORCE BOOT CAMP.
My dad had the same logic. He sent letters to all four branches, and while he really wanted to be a Navy machinist, the Air Force was the only one to write back, so that's where he signed and he ended up nowhere near Vietnam. My uncle, his older brother, wanted to be aMarine, but never heard back from them, and he got drafted by the Army. There were certain places where it was expected that you do something, and in many places in rural America, the idea of college was pretty foreign to most, even with the GI Bill fir the prior generation.

Some people with disabilities never notice it or realize, they are so used to it. I'm partially deaf in my left ear, have been for about 30 years now. I don't even notice or realize any more that I turn my head slightly to the left, so my good ear can pick up the full conversation.

No. He constantly blames others for things. I read the book it's a constant theme. Everyone is wrong. He's 18 years old, a man. He knows he's deaf. He goes to register for the draft? Nope. My parents never told me. Just like a lot of things. What a baby.

In June 1970, the Vietnam War wasn't in full swing; further, by the time Paul would have arrived in Vietnam, after training, etc., the Vietnam War would be in even less "full swing."
Yeah, but he's talking about getting out of service by any means necessary. That's shitty, on one hand, but then so was Vietnam. Tough call. Now, take John Wayne. Guy had no problems at all accept a shitload of kids. He played nothing but toughs his whole life, and the res of Hollywood joined up to, but not Wayne. That was a different story. WW2 service was for a good cause.
I don’t think any American wants to be forced against his will, to be put in a violent and terrible war where they may not live to see the end of. This is why the draft was taken away, and will most likely never be put back in use again.
I have a theory on how he dodged Vietnam. He said "Excuse me sir, but I'm going to be a rockstar" and then he sang an early version of 'Let's Put The X in Sex' while dancing around like a drag queen.
The definition of courage is doing something even though you are afraid. As a Jew I think he should have realized when people’s rights are being trampled you may need to go and fight to help the cause. No one is ever happy about having to go to war That’s where current comes in. Must say I’m a bit disappointed in Paul Stanley.
Vietnam was hardly a suicide mission , my dad came back from the service in one piece and I guess It was men like him we can thank for our freedoms . I guess hearing how Paul wiggled out of the draft for a bad back and then jumping around on stage seemed a bit hypocritical . My Dad even enlisted before being drafted and he had plenty of legitimate disabilities that would have made him ineligible. I bet if the Vietnamese were exterminating the Jews like Hitler, his back and other ailments would not have been an issue , but because it did not directly impact him ,he decided to find excuses .( this is where I said I was disappointed in PS) You see if we all did this we would never be the Country we are today . I Never served personally but did sign up when I turned 18 so they knew I was willing and able to serve . I know that I would have at least had the courage to go if called upon .So you go peddle your shit somewhere else .
But he used his bad back as the reason . He did not know about his deaf ear being the main reason . I find it hypocritical that someone who got out of draft by saying his back was to fragile and his hearing to precious to be permanatly impaired goes into a rock and roll band jumping off of risers, carries heavy band and with the sound of all the amps risks going permanently deaf put cant make himself Eligible for the draft. I am sure if his family ( Jews) was being murdered like in World War 2 those disabilities would have NOT kept him from the war. But since it did not directly involve him then he thought let others do the job. If we all only went to war when it was ONLY directly impacting our personal faith , religion or ethnicity then no one would be willing to fight or at the least sign up for selective service .
I appreciate Paul's honesty. He's very honest about all of insecurities, he puts the man beyond the paint on full display. Gene's book on the other hand is the opposite from what I read. I think he mentions wiping out half the vietcong by blowing a fire ball at them, but I could be mistaken.

In June 1970, the Vietnam War wasn't in full swing; further, by the time Paul would have arrived in Vietnam, after training, etc., the Vietnam War would be in even less "full swing."
did not know he was deaf in one ear?
Why should this guy have to serve his country? It's not like he has benefitted at all from being American
David Montano he's handicapped
Yeah, but he's talking about getting out of service by any means necessary. That's shitty, on one hand, but then so was Vietnam. Tough call. Now, take John Wayne. Guy had no problems at all accept a shitload of kids. He played nothing but toughs his whole life, and the res of Hollywood joined up to, but not Wayne. That was a different story. WW2 service was for a good cause.
His talent and drive benefited him not being American...and glad he didn't "serve" in that unnecessary paranoid mistake
What about Gene ? From the cloths he wears on stage he would have ripped up the battlefield.
I don’t think any American wants to be forced against his will, to be put in a violent and terrible war where they may not live to see the end of. This is why the draft was taken away, and will most likely never be put back in use again.
But he owes it all to ace and peter they had, real talent peter could really sing and ace is a great i mean great guitar player
Kjs Saxton but Gene and Paul wrote most of the songs, and put on the show
Ace and peter had their chance and they blew it just let them die of
Are you joking? Peter couldn't even read drum music. Ace was/is great, but he's a total loon. Peter got by on the skin of his teeth.
Hilarious.
Do some research and you'll find Gene and Paul almost never wrote a thing without outside help. Jus sayin.
Peter Criss couldn't hold a candle to Paul as a singer.
I have a theory on how he dodged Vietnam.
He said "Excuse me sir, but I'm going to be a rockstar" and then he sang an early version of 'Let's Put The X in Sex' while dancing around like a drag queen.
I'm sorry I dont hate the guy he is ery condescending and everything is everyone else's fault but that shit is funny as hell right there
he,in my opinion,is a genuinely unlikable person
The definition of courage is doing something even though you are afraid. As a Jew I think he should have realized when people’s rights are being trampled you may need to go and fight to help the cause. No one is ever happy about having to go to war That’s where current comes in. Must say I’m a bit disappointed in Paul Stanley.
And I'm sure you'd be the first to sign up for a suicide mission. Go peddle that shit somewhere else, oh courageous one.
Did your father join before or after we realized it was a bullshit war?
All wars are bullshit but he did what he thought was right.
If we all only went to war when it was ONLY directly impacting our personal faith , religion or ethnicity then no one would be willing to fight or at the least sign up for selective service .
he could have worked behind a desk
The military does not work like that all members must be able to War
The Bronx Community College........LOL LOL LOL..........I'd love to have that hangin' on my wall.
Christ! He looks like wolfman
