Nilkantheshwar Temple, Pune
Location: Near Panshet Dam, around 35 km from Pune.
Significance: Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple features numerous statues depicting Hindu mythology.
Trek/Drive: You can either drive up or take a short trek (around 1.5-2 km) to the top.
Scenic Beauty: Surrounded by lush greenery and offering a panoramic view of the Panshet and Khadakwasla dams.
Best Time to Visit: Monsoon and winter (July-February) for a pleasant climate.
How to Reach
By Car/Bike:
From Pune, take the route via Khadakwasla → Donje Phata → Khanapur → Panshet Dam → Nilkantheshwar Hill (around 1.5-hour drive).
The last stretch is a little rough, so a two-wheeler or SUV is preferable.
By Public Transport:
Take a bus from Swargate to Panshet and then a private vehicle or local transport to the temple base.
Trekking Details
Trek Distance: Around 1.5-2 km (moderate difficulty).
Duration: 30-45 minutes to reach the top.
Trail Condition: Dirt path, slightly steep but manageable. Best to wear sports shoes.
Best Time to Visit
Monsoon (July-September): Lush green surroundings but can be slippery.
Winter (November-February): Cool weather, best for trekking.
Avoid Peak Summer (March-May): Gets very hot during the day.
