I think they changed the name slightly because it's not the same track exactly, and once you know both names it's easier to differentiate which track from which game you're talking about
As someone who goes to school in Santa Cruz, along the coastline, the scenery was immediately recognizable. I’m not too familiar with the previous track, but I think they did a great job of portraying the atmosphere.
The big grandstands, green grass on the run-off, and those giant billboards were all part of the charm of the original track. It is probably my all-time favourite fictional racetrack. Not sure how I feel about this update.
Honestly, I wish they would have kept it original since it's all '25th anniversary' ... or at least make a variation available for those of us that have played since GT1. Overall, excited to try it out however.
Steve, you should know that the lighting effect going into and out of tunnels can be adjusted in the settings menu. It's called the temporary exposure correction setting and you can adjust it to make it easier to see.
I like that it's been remade and remastered, but I feel like grand valley has been so iconic (even in Tourist Trophy (my favorite track to ride in that game) that it deserves to be back

@@Vemppu_Lutku it's really weird to not have rain on the US tracks. All the more reason for them to bring back some of the old Seattle GT layouts though, if they did that and put rain in too I'd be happy
That last little chicane coming out of the tunnel in sector 3 is such a pain. That's where all of my gold circuit experience laps have gone to die for the past couple hours. Taking a break to watch this.

I'd say the overhaul was a success--this HWY 1 run is simply stunning! Having driven the epically scenic HWY 1 in Big Sur, California I can say PD absolutely nailed it. No doubt this is intended as a showcase for PSVR2 users too.
Just seeing the calm of that final sector, savoring your victory with the Ferrari closely following behind you... ...and then for you to check the rear-view at the final split-second to see him abruptly hurling himself into Barry R. at 9:59 followed by funky race-finish music has to be the most hilarious shit I've seen all month.
Well I think the visual changes make it look completely true to life, while the layout changes make it a little trickier and some corners are no longer easy to cheat on.
Love love love this new look! It looks very much like the Big Sur area of Northern California. An absolutely beautiful area and an amazing highway to drive through.
Last summer, I drove my lifted pickup truck up the Pacific Coast Highway from LA to Oregon. While cruising through Big Sur, I can't begin to describe the jealous admiration experienced while being passed by GTR's and Huracans. It was right around the time a lime green GT3 RS absolutely blew my doors off that I decided I will own a proper race car one day. Can't wait to race this track!
I do like the redesign in the sense its very picture-esque, however, Grand Valley always felt like a true race track more so than most other GT Original Circuits. I wish they would have kept that feeling to the track, even if in a new location.
I am really enjoying it, I have not managed to store all the corners yet but it really is fun getting used to it 😁 Tidge very kindly shared a tip on neutralising the transition from a well lit track into a darkened tunnel and that is to immediately look behind you quickly as you enter, when you return to forward view the tunnel lights up significantly 😁 Like deployed 👍 😎🎙🏎✅️
Grand Valley, Trial Mountain, and Blue Moon are now in-canon NorCal tracks. Add Laguna Seca and possibly Sonoma. That means the Bay Area is Gran Turismo heaven
I swear, I haven't played Gran Turismo in like, 15 years, but I love these videos for the driving and how pleasant they are to listen to and watch, frequently while I'm sketching. Thanks for all the hard work GT.
I personally love the looks of this track, I love the fact that you can stop at the tight 180 and stop and watch people race across both bridges from a distance and that I also spotted a ufo Easter egg, no idea if that was part of the original track
Would have loved a replica of the original with high res textures. The environmental change gives quite a different vibe overall, despite the similarity in layout
I loved the original Grand Valley, and it drives what feels 80% of the original. I accept their reasoning behind changing the theme of the location and I think it's worked and looks amazing. I miss the Mazdaspeed billboard going into T1 😭
I have been playing it today, I like it though I would have dearly loved to have the original Grand Valley Speedway in the game as it was in Gran Turismo 1- 6.
It's nice to see Grand Valley Speedway come back, albeit with a different name (rebrand) and a revamped track layout. It may not be for everyone due to the location, but better late than never. Also, when you race this in the Lobby mode or the Multiplayer mode, expect wacky stuff like these in this vid, and they are due to the connectivity.
Hey, Steve! Just wanted to say that I adore your content. I love your calm style of commentary, and the fact you don't overdramatise your content. Keep up the good work!
Nice to see a few guys from down under racing with you - especially N-Spud and his flying mustang, must be a special power for the guys on controller like him!!
No comment on the original setting, but this stretch of PCH is one of the greatest drives in the world. The views, the varying landscape, the old tunnels, it's spectacular. You're just south of Big Sur in this stretch, absolutely worth a drive if you find yourself in that part of CA
With the tunnel lighting, if you do a really quick look back right as you enter the light will adjust. Just flash your camera backwards as you enter the tunnels
If you look around this track in photo mode, you will discover various animals unique to the California coast. There is a large group of elephant seals on the shore near the second hairpin. There is a Sea otter in the water under the big bridge, and the birds that fly around are Seagulls and Vultures.
CA Route 1 is one of the most famous roads in the world, so makes sense to put a fictional track there since they've been recontextualizing the fictional tracks into more real locations. Grand Valley is maybe the track where, over the iterations of it, it sort of doesn't feel like the designers were quite sure where this environment was supposed to be, so putting it in Big Sur seems like a perfectly acceptable solution. If they add Sonoma to the game that side of the map is going to be really damn crowded though.
I like this track, this reminds me of the 1 lap road courses from Project Cars 2, but I got to say...it would be hard to drive my Bugatti Chiron without flying off the cliff...
I love this new track, it's quite dynamic and each sector feels unique. Got to say it feels a bit weird, Twilight Zone vibes, having driven Highway 1 a lot and seeing this Highway 1-ish inspired scenery! Great driving, great video, excited to see more and getting your thoughts on PSVR2!
For the harsh lighting entering and exiting the tunnels, I am able to see on my newer tv as it has great HDR. Try playing with the HDR settings on your screen because when it’s set correctly, it’ll make a world of difference in light and dark areas being shown at the same time. If your screen does not support HDR, now you got an excuse to upgrade.
i appreciate the redesigns but would be nice to have both the old versions faithfully remastered and the new updated versions in the game at some point
I was shocked by No comment on MThomas dying a further death at the line in Race 1. The man must’ve thought “well I binned in when it mattered so I may as well finish in style”
Honestly the track layout is an improvement over an already classic track. Sad to see the OG scenery go but it would have felt very claustrophobic on PS5, it was designed for consoles with much lower draw distance abilites, and I understand why they decide to open it way up and give us much greater sightlines.
Bit tricky exit here with the sand, where at 11:58 it looks like a straight shot to the next apex, but at the very end of 11:59 suddenly another, cheeky pre-apex(?) appears out of nowhere and lands you in sand.
I would've liked seeing this in its original flavour (scenery wise), but hey, it looks like it runs well and the new scenery isn't half bad either. Nice.
The reason to bring back certain tracks (or characters or levels or whatever) is to allow fans to see their nostalgic favorites but updated with modern technology. Polyphony completely did not understand this with Grand Valley. That being said, it is still a very good track.
So good to see you’re back tonight I love the commentary over the races especially the way you keep your cool and are happy to finish the race no matter what other drivers behave like or if you don’t do so well yourself ❤
Its fun when you add the cinematic camera to these replays.. Please add them, like when you are going down the straight. Different camera angels are fun to see.
I like to imagine the polyphony team visited Big Sur on a scouting trip to Laguna Seca and just couldn’t help themselves. The only things missing from this reimagining are the seaside pastures where the world’s most spoiled cows live, which you’ll find along the highway in this area.
I like the re-design, especially since it came with a name change as well. It does make me miss California something fierce though. I'm not a fan of the middle sector, but I also play using a controller so my mileage varies quite a bit in terms of how the game plays.
I found your channel after purchasing GT7 specifically for PSVR2 (and I’ve been playing it flat and loving it). I really hope you add a bit of PSVR2 content on a regular basis once it launches!
That’s great! I’ve been really enjoying your videos. I’m looking forward to watching how you handle the game in VR! A first time reaction video would be great, but if you’re not down with that then I’m still looking forward to the PSVR2 content!
I like this rework a lot, excited to drive it myself once I get the update completed. The elevation changes are good and it really does capture the vibe of American mountain/coastal roads well while still being true to the original layout. I can see this being really fun to just lap on my own.
I gotta say I really like it so far. My only wish is that they'd done it up a bit more and given it more of the "circuit" in "road circuit" aesthetic like Sardegna I but I guess they wanted it to be the main cruising location for VR. Also I just noticed that the fans/grandstands are only there in the race! That's a great touch. (Compare 0:39 in Circuit Experience to 2:46 in the race)
With the new layout and scenery, it reminds me of an old school classic F1 track. Like it might be a lot of fun to give the new Honda RA272 ‘65 a good run through.
Steve, I've driven Highway 1 to Big Sur, its an amazing road for sure. Driven it several times in the Viper. I need to take the M2 there to stretch its legs!
I love that the spectators are just chilling at the edges of the track and not caring about the fact that they can fall to their death
