In 1980 I actually learned to drive on a Type 2 bay-window variant, 47 hp, and for my first two years of driving I had access only to that and a 652cc flat-twin Citroen Visa. What I can tell you is that you learn EVERYTHING about momentum and smoothness and carrying speed, and it has all served me well to this day. Incidentally the aero on these is not as bad as you might thing for a car of its era and general boxiness. Partly because they are very smooth underneath, pretty much nothing to disrupt airflow with all the drivetrain being at the back. The handling of this in the game looks very accurate to my memories
My first attempt of this race resulted in someone running into me just before the mountain and i lost all momentum resulting in me being stuck at the bottom of it and being unable to get to the summit.
It was around 26-28 hours in the GT3. So here is my question for you. Do you ever want to see an other Super GT video? Because he will sarve to death or will die of sleep deprevation during the first 100 Laps XD
These are the types of races that make Gran Turismo stand out from the rest, the main appeal of this game (at least to me) is that you can race in normal cars that are not meant for racing, and i find that super fun.
*DID YOU KNOW:* You can tip over the sambus hippie van and do side wheelies? Just raise suspension high as possible and it goes very high. This will increase centre of mass height making it easier to topple over. Soften the suspension to make it bouncy so you can pendulum swing the car and carry the momentum over. Now turn hard or keep oscillating between sharp left and right turns untill the pendulum swing is enough to top it over. Not sure if it works online..but it's hella fun and hilarious..I've been doing it since GT sport where it could be done online for a while.
I used to drive one of these, but it was a later model with an incredible 50 hp! Can confirm it was not fast. Was scared to go over about 40 mph because it felt like it was going to shake apart.
Steve you have no idea how many you are helping with your great driving. Upset, bad day, depressed, unwell, we all know you will give us a lift with your entertainment. Keep it up.
Steve has mastered motorsport. Not only did he win the most prestigious event... TWICE... but he has also figured out a way to summon the shadow realm in the back of a VW Bus. Absolute legend.
To answer your question about drag, low speed is a bigger factor than the wide flat shape of the bus. With regards to the slipstream, not only are the cars not particularly drag limited until they nearly top out, minimizing bonus acceleration, the speeds are so low that the effective distance of the slipstream is much smaller than a similar scenario in faster cars
@15:34 when you say “boom! We’ve moved up just like that” Boom! A vision from Initial d, of Takumi Fujiwara in his 86, dropping his inside wheels into the gutter. That was so satisfying to watch, cheers mate. 👍🏼
U know this video is unrealistic as all hell when the samba bus doesn't have holidays for slack in the steering wheel, or that drivers didn't needed a new pair of pants while taking any sharp corners above 50mp/h. 10/10 video, and props got GT devs for making this race up.
I had a 1962 T2 that was pulled from a river near Portland, Oregon and speed painted Chevrolet White. Drove it across the country to Baltimore and back again. I'd kill to have it now.
My weekly race group started doing Samba Bus races with mods and fun liveries about 6 years ago, mostly at Miyabi and Tsukuba. (We had a lot of fun so I'm assuming this was our idea 😆😆😆)
I love how you can't see out the back, but somehow the internal mirror can. Must be one of them fancy external camera jobs with a display that looks like a mirror ;)
You need to add the optional surfboard to the roof as it improves downforce in the corners. There is also a sex wax option in GT auto alongside the oil change.
Very nice race, actually haha. Although it was slow, your narrative makes it exciting and very informative tbh. Love this channel. Tnx for the good time.
I loved how your livery prevented you from looking behind, but your rear-view mirror was clear as can be. We'll just assume the VW bus was the first vehicle ever with a rear facing camera.
Back around 1970 I was 3 years old and we were moving into a new place with a driveway up a steep hill in Mill Valley, CA. My parents borrowed a friend's Microbus to move some stuff because Mill Valley in 1970. Granted, I was young, but I remember that we didn't get up that step hill, that I smelled my first burning clutch and that we literally came to a stop on the way up. It had to be unloaded at the bottom off the hill. Tl;Dr, can confirm near impossibility of navigating inclines in this vehicle.
It seems a lot easier on the eye from a technical standpoint but gran turismo always has something up it sleeves in terms of the skill it requires, great content as per always top notch Super GT, can’t get enough of this game it’s like a daily thing for me , 42km to be exact 🤣

At least your bus has wi-fi so you can watch Super GT vids from the bottom of the hill.
If you finish a race near the front the same thing will happen to the bot that drives your car while you wait for everyone else to finish. Hilarious
I laughed so hard when penalty did nothing to the car 😂😂😂
The car WAS the penalty
I guess under the hood, the code secretly switches what car you're really driving with this one for the length of the penalty.
I think it actually made it go faster

Very cool, glad to finally see Euro Truck Sim 2 showcased on the channel!
Underrated comment
The penalty did absolutely nothing 😂😂😂😂😂 that was funny
Bus was already too slow
Pens have you brake to a limited speed, but if youre already going that speed it does nothing. Hilarious oversight
What makes it even more funny is having the Thomas the Tank Engine theme music in your head while watching the last race
Thomas theme but deepfried
This is why this channel is so good. You can tell a story with a race this mental.
Thomas nightmare fuel aside (I’m not sleeping tonight), great job SAMBA-ing your way from the slow-motion chaos. 😅
I loved it, did quite a lot of laps in quali and managed to make the most of it with manual, races like this are so incredibly fun!
Yeah having an actual manual simulator gearbox irl is really op in these slow races since you nearly dont lose any speed while shifting up
That Thomas scared me as hell. This is the scariest episode of this channel
Feel bad that Scott Speed never got his chance :(
He'd absolutely demolish all the opponents it wouldn't even be funny
Look at the minimap after the hill in the first lap, someone was REALLY struggling to get up😂😂

It’s the funniest idea because with a van, you have more than 1 WHOLE canvas to write, draw, or decal over!
