How to Enable Factory Wig-Wag Light Flasher on Dodge Charger Police Through VSIM Module

  • Not the best vid but you get the idea...forgot to mention there are TWO separate wires for wig-wag as one is for the FRONT headlights, and one is for the REAR brake lights.
    Braking and turn signals WILL override the flashing.

    Rear wig wag on a 11-14 is wire 2. As you have wire 1 for headlight wig wag, I found wire 2 is the rear lights

      Glad it helped, the wig-wag function is pretty much the only useful thing you can use it for. If you search google for the "Dodge Charger Police Upftter Guide" it maps out all the various functions, mostly just signals for various functions of the vehicle that can be used to trigger police equipment.

      Yeah I saw the upfitters guide, super useful. Now my difficult task is finding a 12v supply for pins 1 and 2. Where did you tap off from? Cause most of my harnesses are dead.

      It is actually the other gray square connector that has the power feeds, some are constant power, and a few are ignition only (power only when the vehicle is in "run" position)
      The fuses for them are in the fuse box under the hood,

      You have to trace the wire back from the horns, usually they splice it behind the glove box on the right side where the main wiring harnesses connect. They do this to use the horn ringer circuit to change siren tones.

    Hi!
    So I have a 2012 charger police with the VSIM module left in the vehicle at auction. I followed your instructions and snipped the two wires indicated. I have a couple of questions. I just purchased a 12 fault cigarette lighter plug from AutoZone just to test the functionality. I’m not getting any reactivity when connecting the wires. Does the 12V source need to be grounded? I don’t have access to tools right now to test whether the wires are even live or not and I also am not savvy enough to understand the outfitter guide. Just was hoping for some quick help and reference.
    Thanks
    Jerod

    • @QuaabQueb
      @QuaabQueb  7 років тому

      What are you trying to do, just activate the wig-wags, or wire in a cig lighter plug, or both ?
      The cig plug will require a power wire of 12V and a ground, which you can connect to any radom bolt in the center console area, I used the bolts that hold the keyless antenna bracket (long rectangular black module)
      For the wig-wag trigger wires all they need is 12V no ground.
      If you want leave me your email and we can discuss further

I recommend removing the light heads altogether, you don't want that crap in your car.

    hey man, I just bought a 2012 Dodge Charger police pursuit and I am wondering how do I hookup the lights. You have to trace the wires and find out what they did. All that was installed afterwards by the police department. Could have been hooked up any way. A word of caution, check to see if even having such equipment installed on your car is legal before driving it around.

      Unfortunately not others have tried plugging in a VSIM module from a police charger in to the regular charger and it does not work.
      You can install your own wig-wag flasher, if you have experience with wiring and electronics. If not you would be best to take it to a local emergency vehicle up fitter and have them do it. Ask your department who they use.
      Also check your local laws carefully, consult with the DMV and make sure you are indeed allowed to have such equipment, and make such modifications to the factory equipment to your car. Some places have little to no regulation on the matter, others are more regulated. I'll throw an example.... you install, or have installed, a flasher, other emergency lighting etc... on your car and it somehow fails or malfunctions, even worse an accident results.You will be in a would of trouble. These are the things many people do not think about because they reply on "I heard" or "I thought"

    • @QuaabQueb
      @QuaabQueb  7 років тому +2

      Yes you can, just use a simple tester or look at the "police up-fiter guide" online, some circuits are constant hot (always available power even with car completely off) and the others ignition controlled, so the car must be in the ACC or RUN position.
      I would definitely recommend always having the motor running if you are going to have equipment running, especially a directional bar. If it is halogen it will drain the battery fairly quickly, if it is LED you can get away with it a little longer, but it does not take long to discharge the battery below 11volts, once it gets that low there is not enough voltage to start the car.
