I thought that the Dominion was super advanced compared to the Federation based on these first interactions, but the Federation certainly caught up pretty quickly. I think the most impactful thing they did was upgrade their shield technology. Then of course, they used the tech they developed against the Borg, who are the most technically advanced power in the Galaxy.
I was under the impression that the th ships and colonies that were sent to or set up in the gamma quadrant was before starfleet and co. was even aware of the Dominion. When they talk to that female Vorta she mentions the jem'hadr and the Dominion and Quark says he's heard of them like there the boogyman and doesn't believe they exist
Yeah, many races sent ships out there to explore and colonize. Including the federation. It's just the ferengi, how the furniture work They go to where money Looking for large civilizations or colonies, the exact opposite of whatever and else is doing. They're looking for unclaimed resources.
Federation standard practice was to put colonies in recently chartered space and think diplomacy and a couple of starships will always win the day but it obviously won't work with powers like the Dominion, Borg, Romulans and others.
@@trekwars5400 I think the Federation was very naive during the golden era thinking that diplomacy and some territorial concessions will keep them safe all the time until some rival power stop playing nice, that's why you have all those mentions of massacres and other incidents in TOS and TNG.
That is a really good observation. That's something I missed but picked up this second Time watching. I agree with you a 100%. That was almost an aggressive tone. But extremely arrogant. Technically, we're violating their space. That in itself is an act of war.
liked the video, but you need to do some fact checking on it. The Romulin was a sub-commander. The change of weapons from pulse to beam was a FX change but the producers. Also, the Galaxy-class did not get their BB upgrade till after the Dominion encounter. The Odyssey was a upgraded ship, but nothing major till after the episodes "The Search". That's when star fleet began to do massive upgrades to the fleet.
I didn't say anything about that ship being upgraded. That ship was a standard Galaxy class. But you are right about sub commander. But the point is still the same. They're sharing secret technology.
After watching TNG for the whole 7 years, I was only 14. Seeing a galaxy class ship week after week survive everything thrown at it. Watching the odyssey fly into combat I was, yeah show them what the federation can do, my utter shock seeing a galaxy class getting a good kicking, when the odyssey started the withdrawn I thought that it. Then seeing a ship ram the odyssey and destroying it, I was lost for words. Brutal
The Dominion always tried to shift the blame for the war starting onto the Federation but I always saw it as the Dominion being the ones who instigated the conflict. The Federation spent two years exploring the Gamma quadrant before the battle that destroyed the Odyssey and in that entire time they never ran into any Dominion bases, colonies, outposts, or ships and had barely even heard of the Dominion. Two years of exploration and all you hear are unconfirmed rumors says that the region of space the wormhole opened into was nowhere near the Dominions borders. Also, if the Dominion has sent a ship or ambassador to the Federation and said clearly "These are our borders, don't cross them" the Federation would have done as they asked. Instead the moment they learned of unknown groups exploring the Gamma quadrant they attack and destroy ships, colonies, and outposts, kidnap who knows how many people, and start sending agents to infiltrate the powers of the Alpha quadrant. It was clear that the Dominion was driven by a massive sense of entitlement that made them feel they have the right to control and dominate all worlds regardless of the official boarders and an equally massive sense of paranoia against any faction outside of their control that makes them see all outsiders as enemies to be destroyed or dominated.
Yeah I agree with what you're saying. From a historical context the Dominion are based off the the Mongol. They had a similar religious belief system that they enforce violently just like the gym Hadar and not knowing that you're in violation was not acceptable excuse. Under the god of the Blue sky / founders. Very good analysis
I enjoyed that tension and sense of dread created by The Federation coming into conflict with a technological superior power. I can understand the need for the show having the Federation innovating shields to counter Polaron weaponry but by the second season of the war Federation tech was somehow now equal to Dominion which shouldn’t have been possible and made them less menacing. Having more powerful foes always makes for more interesting and varied storytelling especially sense the Federation always seem to be more powerful than their rivals which is why they can afford to focus on more multirole ships rather than dedicated warships. I mean Voyager made a joke out of the Borg.
Yeah I agree with you it doesn't make a lot of sense. And as far as Voyager in the borg I'll be honest with you I think the Borg are absolutely boring I hate videos about them and I hate the movies. They're the most boringest villain. Starfleet's power increase was kind of ridiculous
Well, Dax was right, the dominion couldn't stop them from exploring the gamma quadrant. They didn't control the entire gamma quadrant of course. And the religious aspect that you put into it make sense, which is why I've always hated religion. People kill for it. People died for it. The loss of life over religion and gods has been more trouble than it's worth over the centuries. But you can't just hold off doing stuff on the basis of unsubstantiated rumors. The federation and all the other powers didn't know if the dominion was real. At this point, all they had were rumors.
The answer to that is yes. To be the second officer, she would have to know federation policy. And she states that she disagrees with federation policy a lot of the time.
This initial violent encounter with the Dominion was _entirely_ a result of Federation hubris. They _knew_ of the Dominion, but instead of contacting them *first* they invaded (yes, INVADED) their space without making First Contact. And then, to make matters worse, the Bajorans followed them in like puppies and _set up colonies._ Yes, The Dominion is batshit crazy, but the Federation should have found this out _before_ invading their space. BUT...the Humans of the Federation were used to being the superior force in the quandrant, so much they actually had _families_ on their battleships! Star Fleet should have learned their lesson at Wolf 359, but it took them getting their asses handed to them by the Dominion _several_ times before they finally woke TF up and started making battleships w/o children onboard!

Yes, I agree, and this shows that the federation's adaptability is definitely the highest of all the other powers.
Forgot to mention that the Defiant was originally made to fight borg vessels. It was an anti-borg battleship. Then that darn Dominion. Lol

Do you think the Federation is using social engineering? By placing borders of other empire

When Dax said, "You can't stop us from exploring the Gamma Quadrant"...it was very arrogant, entitled, and foolish.
That is a really good observation. That's something I missed but picked up this second Time watching. I agree with you a 100%. That was almost an aggressive tone. But extremely arrogant. Technically, we're violating their space. That in itself is an act of war.

Quark saves the galaxy! 😀😀😀
Oh man, already?! That was fast! Lovely, let’s get into this.

Seeing the Galaxy class getting destroyed with shocking to me to the first time I saw it. It also made me really really dislike the Dominion
"Those bastards"
-My honest reaction.
Good you got the copyright lifted. ( i noticed itcwss blocked)
I appreciate that.

"Your destruction are the will of the gods, and we are their instrument."
-The Dominion, most likely.

There were already changelings in the Alpha Quadrant
This is true, but from our perspective. We are not supposed to know that.
True we werent even supposed to know who the founders were

Did Major Kira have to go through some federation tactical starship training
The answer to that is yes. To be the second officer, she would have to know federation policy. And she states that she disagrees with federation policy a lot of the time.
In the fact that she knows how to fly runabout. I think it's the first or second season. That's stated to be federation new consult system.
🧐👏😁

She should have given recognition to Odo as a founder
I don't think she knew that Odo was a changeling yet.
