  • On the evening of May 1, 2018, a large, wedge-shaped tornado developed to the west of the town of Culver, Kansas, near the town of Tescott. The tornado eventually grew to one-half mile in width, and had a path length of nearly fifteen miles. Though fortunately it remained over mainly open country during its lifespan, the tornado was responsible for EF-3 damage just to the west of Minneapolis, Kansas.
This is a supplemental video to “Wedge tornado time lapse” • Wedge tornado time lap... , and shows the tornado from just after inception until it became heavily rain-shrouded to the north of Culver. Many townspeople were initially rather panicked as the tornado siren sounded in Culver, but as residents converged on our location we were able to reassure them that the tornado would move well to the north of town. Together, we observed the tornado from a distance of between 2-4 miles.
