  • In this video, I take an unassembled, painted, rusty old metal ice cream parlor chair and restore it into a beautiful and useful chair. I strip off the paint, treat the rust, apply a copper patina chemical, and use some home made shellac to finish the chair.

My folks had an ice cream parlor table with four chairs that belong to my mom‘s mother and they were beautiful as kids really enjoyed it when we was younger. You did a fantastic job on the restoration.

Very nicely done. Love how the seat looks. I may have painted the frame, but your choice turned out beautiful.

Hey, Tom. The chair is beautiful. I love it.
If you haven't seen it yet, check out how Trena on "John's Furniture Shop" restored a grandfather clock from 1830. It's the kind of restoration that you could do and I think that you will enjoy watching it.
    God bless.

I love your Ice Cream Parlor chair! Now I have a craving for a "DIP CONE"! I love your determination. Tom are you self taught or did you learn from your dad or grandfather or maybe have a wonderful shop teacher in high school? Well since you're only 30 they may not of still been teaching shop in school.🤣

Haha. I had some shop classes in H.S. But I have learned things from many people and experiences. UA-cam of course. Shop classes I believe laid the foundation.

The copper patina is really the win on this project . On the wood I'm curious do you use sanding sealer? I like using lacquer for the finish and when I use sanding sealer I put stain in it to cover some of the lighter parts of the wood . Thank for sharing!

I tried sanding sealer before staining. I used it in the past but this one was being difficult. I wasn't liking the way it looked. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong. I blame the wood :-) because it sure wasn't me, lol.
