HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.

Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

Good story! In such a universe, humans would be surprised to find that a Earthen dog had been such a hero. Finding out humans are the intelligent race, but dogs are our friends - yep, surprise. Excellent tale and had me crying there. Wonder what they would think of cats? Rodent Police?

That would NOT surprise everyone. We have lots of stories of such.
During 9/11 the search and rescue dogs had to go on break after a while, the number of DEAD humans they found became too much and the dogs were falling apart. They had to get volunteers to fake being stuck to be found by the dogs. They love helping so much and failing breaks their hearts.
Depends on the cat. There are some that are as loyal and protective as dogs. It's just not as reliably certain a cat will be that way as dogs. Heck, I've watched a story about a squirrel who attacked an intruder and gave him hell. Never underestimate the loyalty of pack bonded beings.
I don't recall the name of the story but cats are the demons of an avian race on their hell world.

When I was a teenager, I had a dog, only maybe 7 months old. He was sick and I'm just a dumb teenager and my family doesn't have extra money for a vet. So one night when I was washing the dishes, I quickly checked him up. He was laying, resting but he sensed me a looked at me while laying, wagged his tail. He's still responsive. Went back to the dishes and finished it all..
I checked him up again but.. No response. He was gone. He wagged his tail one last time.. Fck. I'm washing the dishes again in the same place while typing this.. This story reminds me of my boy. Thank you.

I really enjoy the stories by RealLeagleEagle. They are not all the bang bang shoot-‘em/underdog humans beat advanced tech galactic empires read by AI. Your skills bring these stories to life and this one REALLY hit home. Today is my 75th birthday and I’ve grown up with dogs since I was 12 weeks old. We had to put several to sleep but the one I called‘faithful minion’ for the way he tried to comfort my bride of 55 years as we decided it was time broke my heart. We decided it was just much pain to do again so she took all the dog stuff to the rescue society and came home talking about this really cute puppy. He’s been with us for 13 years now

I kinda figured out where this story was headed early on, But damn me if it still didn't kick me right in the feels. Damn ninjas tossed an onion bomb through my window. For the algorithm and with energy!

I currently have a senior dog, and we're not sure how much time she has left. She's also a cancer survivor. This hits right in the feels.
This became one of my all-time favorite HFY stories. The emotional depth, the slow reveal, the final punchline, all together make it so great. As an accidental dog owner, I can sympathize with the joy of finding a new companion and the bittersweet final goodbye are both in my own experience.
I always take in rescue dogs. They are the most loving when you love them. Dogs are truly our best friends. No matter if you yell at them or swat them for peeing on your bed. They still love you.

How dare you make me cry this much. All I could think of with this one is my goofy Blue Heeler girl. You hear carpet thumping sound in the house, and all you know is she's playing with her sister, or she's just happy about something. It's a sound that always makes me smile, it's like the sonic equivalent of sunshine.
These stories always have me searching out the onion cutting ninjas. Had a number of dogs and cats over my 62 years but it was always either dad took the last ride with them,we found them gone one morning or in the case of some of the cats they got up in years and one night just went out and never came home again. Only two of the cats I took the last ride with. One was a family cat that got up in years and I volunteered to save dad having to do it as this was one of the few cats before mom passed that decided dad was her favorite hoomon and despite his hemming and hawwing about his dislike of cats that cat was his fuzzbutt. Since I moved out and got married dad's last two he had to take the last ride a couple months apart as both were close in age and honestly think the one cat missed her buddy. Last one I took the last ride with was mine and my late wife's cat 5 years ago. Cat lived a long,happy and well loved 16 years and I helped each other get through my wife's passing but I'd noticed her slowing down and showing signs of age but it was coming home with a spur of the moment laser pointer purchase from a dollar store and she didn't want to murder the red dot I knew something was wrong further confirmed a couple days later when changing bedding and for the first time in 16 years bedding was changed without feline assistance and supervision. She went downhill fast and returned home from work 2 days later to find her curled up in the bathroom showing clear signs her time was near.
To this day I still have no how the receptionist at the clinic made heads or tails of the hot flaming, sobbing mess that called to arrange to bring in a cat but she did and I took the last ride with that cat. Last one as far as I'm concerned too darn painful and considering age and current health conditions it's more than likely even an older cat will outlive me and I saw our cat mourn my wife and don't want to do that to another cat.
You made me happy and sad at the same time.

Aggggggghhhh its a dog i was so confused and shocked and the ending like i guess the humans don't let the grater galaxy have dogs cause of how they would treat them, their food and health but with his experience i guess humans would agree to it bit also i love this so much and i guess that part about not liking hospitals makes so muck sense now!!

Yep, dogs are like that. I haven’t had a doggie buddy since I was a teenager. I’m an old man now. I just could take the chance on losing another buddy like I did all those many years ago. Maybe he’ll be waiting for me. I hope he is. But if not, then just fuck it!
Been with Dogs for most of my life, I still like 'em more than Human people. Just recently lost my little buddy to a snake bite, no fun when that happens.
