    Just received my Raptor over the weekend, love the scanner wish I could say the same for Creality Studio.
    Having to rely on 3rd part software for the simplest features is not what i would have expected.

      @@michaelgmyers I agree to a degree ;) software has been improved with updates since my review. It's less buggy now at least. Still wish it would perform better and use more of my CPU cores and even some juice of my GPU. I use the orca slicer for many of the post scan jobs. Also I checked out mesh mixer - but it's a bit more to learn...

      @@Rcschim I use Orca as well, CR Studio along with optimization needs features worth of a laser scanner, at least that's my thoughts. Thanks for the very informative video.

    Thank you for your review of the Creality Raptor scanner. I have been working with a Creality Ferret Pro scanner. You are absolutely correct, it takes a lot of patience to learn how to scan objects correctly. I finally managed to produce a color scan of my old Canon SLR camera. I was very impressed with what I was able to achieve. I have been using an M1 MacBook Pro. It handled even the color aspects of the camera very accurately.
    The big problem that I have been having is with my iPhone 16 Pro. I can scan wirelessly with the MacBook but I have been unable to use my iPhone for wirelessly scanning objects. I’m able to join the Ferret Pro wireless network from my iPhone, but when I try to open the Creality Scan app, it always errors out with “Please connect the scanner”. I have also seen reports of folks having trouble with Android phones. I have been exchanging emails with Creality Customer support. But so far I have not gotten them to understand the problem. So I will try again. After watching this video, I noticed that you also have one about the Ferret Pro. That’s my next stop.

    Have you tried scanning something like a Prop on one of your drones and then 3D printing it to see the quality is good enough to be used as a replacement part?

      Hi, nope - scanning props Is a bit hard - and even with a perfect scan - the print job is difficult as well - and I got a ton of spare props in boxes - so there was no need ;)
      In general, 3d printing and scanning is most efficient there where getting an replacement part would either be hard or expensive, or where you need a personalized part....

      @@Rcschimappreciate your reply. So if I understand correctly, it’s not worth buying this scanner if I want to use it to scan and print drone replacement parts when I crash? Fusion and some of the other modeling apps have quite a bit of learning curve, was hoping I could use this scanner to skip the learning curve and go straight to printing out a replacement parts.

      Especially not for cheap and easy buyable things like props.
      More for super customized parts that are not easy to find or replace (old vintage parts...)
      But in general, I don't see a lot of situations where you will have the easy scan and print immed scenarios. But you don't need to invest a lot of time in 3D design progs, slicers like Orca have gotten really good at modifying / splitting, joining parts etc.

    My interest in this is to get good STL files....

      You can check my link to the library of scans to see if they are good. I think so...

    You should not rotate the turntable and keep it spinning, move the table 18 times like 20 degrees angle each time, you will get better results

      is this based on your own testing?and which scanner are you using?
      I found that doesn't matter whether i spin it manually or not. but I'm interested in knowing more about your experience

    What are the specs on your laptop and what would be minimum specs for the raptor? Will it work with AMD 4G graphics card?

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  Місяць тому +1

      from Creality page: "Recommended configuration: CPU i7-Gen8 and above, Nvidia graphics card, 16GB RAM or above. Minimum configuration: CPU i5-Gen8 and above, 8GB RAM or above" they only mention nvidia, but even nvidia is not supported very well (on the compute heavy tasks the GPU doesn't work a lot).
      My poor performing laptop was the Dell 7490 (from 2018) with I7 8650U CPU, integrated GPU. That's their minimum spec (8th gen CPU).

    • @Rcschim
      @Rcschim  29 днів тому

      Sure, more RAM is better for sure (especially on larger scans).
      I tested on an 8gb M1
