The cast of Seinfeld are still typecasted. Despite Jason Alexander (who played George Constanza) and Michael Richards (who played Kramer) being very great stage actors. Julia Louis-Dreyfus (who played Elaine Benes), has had several other TV sitcoms, but people still think of her as Elaine from Seinfeld.

Levar burton broke out as Kunta Kinte in Roots - POWERFUL, later became host of Reading Rainbow. Huge crossover, also Jordie in Star trek. We saw Roscoe Orman transform from Willie Dynomite to Gordon on Sesame street. Both Lawrence Hilton- Jacobs , and John Travolta catapulted from Kotter's class to screen stars. Last but not least, Queen Latifa transformed from rap to sitcom, to big screen comedy, to big screen drama. All done WELL, plus singing. That's not something he has control over if they never give him a chance to prove himself in a different role. That's what you call typecasting. The fault lies with the producers who can't see the skills of an actor who played his role so well that he just might be able to do it again.

We have to right to feel what we feel but always remember, it’s the delivery that can shift the pendulum to either swing away from you or to hit you. Life has a way of using our own actions and words to scold us. Just remember that before we react out of emotions. The "Carlton Dance" was originally called the "Rockabilly" back in the 1980s when we were dancing at Nightclubs and House Parties in L.A. Just a little known fact.

I believe Alphonso actually auditioned for Tyler and was turned down for the reason he said the blessing yet a curse playing Carlton was.

Unfortunately Alphonso is not the only actor or actress that got stuck playing a character on a hit tv show & couldn't go back to movies if he doesn't want the help that's his decision but Tyler Perry won't lose any sleep at all

Alphonso needs to reconsider before opening his mouth again that he exposed the thoughts he has about Tyler and Tyler would say, "Who?"

He good at hosting too. Commercials. I think he is mad he cannot make any money off that character. The name and likeness belongs to 20th century Fox. Or whatever studio. They should let him make more money.

Typecasting is no joke. It’s hard for some actors to break out of that box. I respect him for having principles and not just doing and/or sacrificing anything for a check. Plus the people been saying that TP doesn’t pay is actors well anyways.

Dude should have kept that comment to himself or left it at the kitchen table. You asking the internet at large for career advice, your response without content, or clarity could come to others that is in position to employ you deemed your character as one lacking humility. No response was needed. Even tho Tyler Perry himself could not break away from his character Madea into other unrelated roles, without people's thoughts being "Boy stop, go put that dress on, bring out Madea, and make us laugh". But its not Tyler asking for advice\lead for employment.

I agree! He came off bitter and angry and it was off-putting. Someone who would consider hiring him would think twice and move on. He should have kept his mouth shut. It might have made him feel better to say what he did but but it did more harm than good.

Tyler Perry would make a movie that would make him the villain who left his wife for a YT girl. People will either love him for being Carlton or dislike him like they dislike the bald head dudes from Tyler Perry's past

10:12 the man who stood next to Alfonso for years, Will Smith! Martin Lawrence, Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, Queen Latifah,Denzel Washington all had hit shows in the 80s or 90s and went on to do amazing things after that. (i didn't name the Wayans cause they made their own projects)
