Sad, my dad was a POW and this tune was ingrained in his head - he whistled it at times to deal with the trauma he experienced as a prisoner by the Japanese occupational army
"This is a tribute to the approximately 15,000 POW soldiers who lost their lives building the "Death Railway" during WWII." - We too had been there and saw the museum as well as the monument ground. A computer is kept in the ground floor that helps you to find out the location of long dead soldier's monument. But what surprises me that there is no monument or any mention of hundred of thousands Indian prisoners of war and slave labours from India. As an Indian I found that simply frustrating. My uncle died there as POW.
Hello again Pradip, nice hearing from you again. It is quite a few years back that we visited this Monument and we cannot recall whether Indian soldiers were mentioned or not. We do seem to recall a mention of Malay and Singapore soldiers however, if we are not mistaken. Have a good day! Best Regards fro Copenhagen - Maxi and Maro.
Hey Pradip, i've done a bit of reading about deaths railway, and from what i can tell, there were about 10.000-13000 allied forces alongside nearly a hundred thousand civilian casualties during the construction. But the memorial in question, is a memorial to the soldiers of that particulair camp.
I love world war II movies and their theme songs and listen to them, to pay tribute to the millions of people who gave (may be I should say lives taken away) their lives in defending people's freedoms and their right to live their lives the way they want it.

My grandfather was a signaler on the USS Houston that was taken prisoner and helped in the construction of the bridge. He barely survived and weighed 84 pounds after returning from a bowl of rice a day filled with maggots. I will never forget what he did for me and the country.
I like the words that go with this song Hitler has only got one ball. Goring has two but very small Himmler has has something sim’ler But poor old Goebbels has no balls at all.
Indian govt and bureaucracy must learn how to respect their soldiers who lay down their lives for the country. In 67 years a befitting memorial has not been made so far. orop still pending with successive governments. MERA DESH MAHAN.IF DEF MIN HAS NOT SEEN BRIDGE ON RIVER KAWAI,THEN HE MUST SEE.
I'm doing Indian History at the moment including WW2 and from what I've heard the government only cared about India getting Independence instead of the soldiers, of course they were important but yeah. For example Chandra Bose with the INA and Congress didn't make it any easier with the British.
Here are the lyrics which couldn't be used in a movie made in that era. WWII soldiers would sing it rather than whistle. Hitler has only got one ball,Goring has two but very small,Himmler is somewhat sim'lar,But poor Goebbels has no balls at all.
Well my dad fought in the jungles of Burma and other US/Chinese WWII theater locations fighting the Japanese and he would whistle this song. Said they would whistle it because the words didn’t match who they were fighting. Marching and whistle and movie is from the war locations he fought in for 5 years. Medal of Honor from USArmy and Chinese Government along with 8 other medals and letters of accommodations which we didn’t find until after he died. He was a strong but humble man. We knew he had theedal of Honor but not any of the others.

been to this bridge 4 times.great place
It´s so nice to see how well the Thais maintain this graveyard too.
My grandfather was a signaler on the USS Houston that was taken prisoner and helped in the construction of the bridge. He barely survived and weighed 84 pounds after returning from a bowl of rice a day filled with maggots. I will never forget what he did for me and the country.
I like the words that go with this song
Hitler has only got one ball.
Goring has two but very small
Himmler has has something sim’ler
But poor old Goebbels has no balls at all.
I just heard this music in 1938 Hitchcock movie, "The Lady Vanishes"> I always thought this music won an award for Bridge on the movie ...
Looking for the whistling version

But then again I might be wrong, as that's what I've heard.
ยุธการแม่น้ำแคว ที่จังหวัดกาญจนบุรี (Producer the River Kwai In Kanchanaburi)
I have a lot of respect for the armed services also for the boys and girls who lost their lives either in combat or were prisoners of war in WW2

lol I remember singing that as a teenager when this film first came out.

Điệu nhạc rất hào hùng, tuy nhiên mỗi lần nghe là tôi muốn khóc.

Good as a marching song, but I can't stand whistling.
