  • want to make deodorizing soap at home this video tutorial will show you the steps and the recipe. We are making cold process soap using persimmon, a fruit often used in Japan and other cultures for removing body odor and they say there is scientific evidence that it helps to remove "old people smell" It's the natural tannins in the persimmon that is believed to be responsible for the deoderizing properties. Don't forget to grab the DIY soapmaking deodorant recipe below.
Handmade Persimmon (Sharon Fruit) Soap Recipe with natural deodorizing and odour removing properties.

    69g Sodium hydroxide
1 Persimmon fruit (will only use 93g of the finished puree)

I had a reduced wine that went from white to green like that when I added it to the lye. My soap turned out a lovely white in the end. Lye is crazy!

The "old person smell" caused by nonenal is definitely a thing! I'm surprised is not better known and better commercially exploited. Mirai Clinical sells some products that counteract or neutralize the smell, but thise products are not available here in Sweden so I'm trying to figure out how to make them myself.
So thank you for this video -- now I know how to make the soap!
My next project will be to try to make some liquid laundry prewash or laundry detergent, because that smell gets trapped in clothing and is almost impossible to remove. (And yes I have tried all the usual deodorizing detergents, vinegar, sodium bicarbinate, etc.) Can you point me in the right direction for making detergent? Much appreciated!

It's also called "kaki", eaten when it's very ripe, in fact completely gloppy. I like it with real yoghurt or kefir which counteracts the astringency. It's also nice sliced before ripe and sun-dried.

Thank you for this. I want to make my own also. I had no idea how to do the persimmon.
Do you have a picture of your soap when you add it to oils instead of lye?

Did the colours change over time/over the drying time? Did they look more similar? Great video as usual 😊

The high quantity of tannins reacted to the lye.

That color morph was interesting for sure! Curious to know if it will change again during the cure? You'll have to post if it does!

Does it matter what variety of persimmon is used? I have the type that do not have that astringent taste, they're quite sweet. Great video!

Do the Persimmons need to be unripe?
