Hi new to your channel and your videos should come with a warning ⚠️ not to watch before you’ve had at least two cups of coffee so your brain can keep up with the fast pace and speed of your speech. Content is amazing and exactly the information I need because I have a pepper plant that I recently transferred to a larger grow bucket and not really having a clue what I’m doing I’m just carrying on. I had wondered if the extra leaves were there to help the plant be balanced in its container and to counter balance the weight of the peppers when they grow? But again that happens at the top not the bottom. I’m definitely going to get my clippers out and will start pruning! The reason I’m reluctant to do this is because on two occasions I clipped the main stem and before I knew it I was holding the pepper plant in my hand, talk about shock and horror!!! My most recent accident was with a tomato plant that was just starting to put on some buds, I had transplanted to a larger pot and didn’t realize how much the plant had become so dependent on the cotton lattice I had put up in front of the window. I ended up having to cut through the strings to free the plant because I was also moving it down from a table to the floor because I couldn’t put the grow lights up any higher. Unfortunately when I removed it from the lattice with the help of hubby be a this thing had gotten enormous in a couple of weeks and I hadn’t realized just how large it was! In retrospect I should have done everything different. I should have added a piece of rope from the ceiling and using a couple of those plastic rings I could have put around the main stem and then they would have helped to keep the tomato plant upright, we were trying to find a solution fast because hubby’s arms were getting fatigued pretty fast! So I decided we could try a tomato cage upside down because there would be no way we would get it through the bottom. Well long story long we got the cage over it with a lot of twisting and turning and I should have left it at that point. Hindsight is always 20/20 but no I decided there were a ton of extra leaves and branches in the bottom that needed a good cleanup so I cut the first leaf and there was this branch that was twist and almost looked like it was one of those sucker types so without much thought or explanation I cut and held the branch so I could pull it out and tears started to run down my face as I had realized I was actually not holding a branch I was holding the main stem of the plant and I had cut it at it’s base. I pulled it out and I was left with a tiny branch on the plant I cut it off because I knew it would just be a stress on any new growth that may begin again(at least I sure hope it will.

So I will totally say I absolutely love your videos!!! I've got a small grow room going and I've been steadily lollipopping my bush beans and Cherokee wax beans. But I've got a question I've noticed your main crops seem to be peppers but I've gotta wonder are you ever planning to do plant specific videos like one on peppers, beans, lettuce, herbs etc?

Hey Everest, thanks for the great videos! Do hot peppers generally grow indoors within one "season" with one crop at the end of the season? Or, can I perpetually harvest them as long as they stay healthy and fit in my garden?
+RyRy Peppers are tropical perennials so will keep growing and producing in warm conditions. I keep mine trimmed back and let them dry out a bit in order to stimulate flowering and fruiting.
Cool, thanks! I started peppers inside last January, transplanted in May, and they are still pushing out nice hot peppers today. Snow forecast for Monday, plan to take some cuttings this weekend and bring them for the winter. And who knows, maybe cuttings can go back outside next spring....sounds like a fun challenge.
Take those puppies in, then bring them out again when nighttime temperatures are not too low. Put them in the sunniest space you have, preferably with a south-facing wall just behind them to act as a heat sync. You'll probably have a better crop in year two!
If you have a lot of reflective surfaces as in a growing tent, what level of pruning would you suggest? I wouldn't imagine as deeply as in this video.

Hey Everest completely off topic question.
I was wondering about your views on Triacontanol and what products you know contain the most amount of this?
I have recently started foliar Spraying Canna Boost in flower at lights off as I believe it has triacontanol in although this is unconfirmed.
My aim is to increase the plants metabolism and nutrient uptake in less and have had great results using Canna Boost as a soil drench but at 4ml per litre it's super expensive.
From my research I understand alfalfa meal has a good amount of triacontanol in but it's hard to use in a hydroponics garden as it usually top fed in outdoor gardens,
Or can it be mixed into the Coco coir medium I use in drain to waste?
Any of your knowledgeable input would be much appreciated ✌️

should you spray h202 onto the wound where bigger branches have been removed? if so at what dilution? how often? and how many times does it need done? there seems to be blackening happening at the site of pruning

In a nutshell ... how would you opt to light a 2.5ft by 7ft grow space with a screened out canopy 1ft deep... 1 hps + mover? 2 static? LED + mover? Etc etc .. (sealed room + co2) Am I wasting light by using two static 400s with only 2.5ft depth?? Lots of uk love. Advice appreciated more than you know! Peace

Do you ever leave your bluelab combo meters probes in the nutrient solution? Or do you just dip them in when getting a reading? I have one and was wondering if I could leave them in the reservoir to always get a constant reading. Thanks
Yes I leave my combo meter probes in the solution all the time. Just make sure you calibrate them regularly, like every week or so at a minimum.

The plant master at my local green house who went to university for plants said that the leaves act as mouths for the plant and as long as they are green they are receiving light and photosynthesizing.

Do you have a criteria based on the intensity of light as far as which leaves to remove?
+Scott Allen I left the plants with a relatively deep canopy because the 750W DE-HPS above penetrates very effectively into the canopy. I really focus on removing the bottom leaves and any growth tips going nowhere. Some “true lollipoppers” put there take it much further, especially if growing under a “top-down” 90 degree multipoint light source like some LEDs with basic optics.

I lollipopped my auto-flower cannabis (I grow medically in Canada), under 276 true watts, with the GH Flora series and their Cali-Mag, and my flowers are developing exponentially faster since then
Rath'ven Hi buddy, thanks for chiming in! From that wattage I’m guessing you’re running LEDs. CalMag supplements, typically around 4:1 ca:mg, tend to be based around calcium nitrate - delivering a potential boost of both calcium and nitrogen. As well as magnesium (often in the form of nitrates and / or sulphates) CalMag supplements can contain chelated iron too - all these elements will really help your plants to thrive. Calcium ions are so small they can hitch a ride with transpiration so if your plants aren’t transpiring as much due to a lack of infrared in their energy diet, it can help to raise air temperatures or raise EC / nutrient strength instead. Lollipopping has become popular with monopheno canopy growers looking to exploit more collimated rather than radiated multipoint light. This is great for impressive PPFD readings but the lack of angular intensity (radiant intensity) means it’s really all about the top layer of flower sites. It makes sense to remove foliage that is totally in the shade once flowering is initiated.

Everest ive got a question, does dimming down a 600w ballast to 250w damage the MH or HPS bulb?
Hi Ryan, thanks for your question. Yes, dimming down a 600W lamp to 400W or 250W will alter the spectral distribution. The effect is more pronounced in metal halide lamps than HPS. (The spectrum becomes "greener" when dimming MH). With HPS the reds become less dominant at lower wattages.

If you just add two small (30watt LED lights) to the sides of the room/tent you double+ your harvest. I have been using sidelighting for 33 years with great success.
I have heard that pruning a branch can kill a section of root associated with it, this was told to me by someone more familiar with tree, do you know if this is true of indoor plants as well?
+bcbudinto Interesting! Pruning active branches in trees can cause damage to the whole tree, including the roots. This may not necessarily be a directly correlating portion of root to the removed branch. Good info here by The University of Georgia ( www.extension.iastate.edu/forestry/publications/PDF_files/for98-005.pdf ) not heard this happening with fast growing annual herbaceous species, but worthy of some investigation for sure.

How about supplementing light on the sides and bottom? And can you do a vid on adding addition lighting like low powered leds or even clfs strung down to the bottom of the plants and panels on the sides? Great video Everest!
Great idea MrPebaa. I have some new LED strips-this could work great. In the end I opted for pruning back my plants (brutally) as they were growing into the walkways, etc, making garden maintenance rather tricky. Love the idea for a future topic though. I think I'll give it a go inside a grow tent. Thanks again for the inspiration.

Its actually a very particular art not to stress the plant doing this. If you trim 1' of nodes thats wasted vertical space. Also, getting the right light that penetrates the canopy without burning the tops is what gets difficult.
The better way to do it is to figure out how deep your lamp can penetrate without bleaching and then keep your plants from growing too high to begin with, allowing your stems to grow thicker instead of longer. Only trim the lowest (and longest) shoots that are having trouble reaching the canopy height and dont have many tertiary shoots. This will have minimal damage stress, waste minimal nutrients building the cut off portion, and create an auxin response that will increase yield within the canopy.
+Aaron565pwns Great advice, thanks for sharing. Canopy penetration is a topic worth coming back to. A strong single point light source radiates lots of intense, angular light - versus a multi-point light source such as LED - some are very focused. Good at exciting PAR meters, but plants are very good at harnessing angular light. Think there’s a video idea sprouting.... :)

So lollypopping is a good idea then... I got told wrong advice ive been told that the lower leaves still add to the breathing of the plant and photosynthesis but it seems this video is saying opposite..
I am all in favor of these techniques when applied gradually and moderately at the right time in the lifecycle. Sounds like a great topic for a video.

One thing ive found stressing my weed plants ,,the more you stress your weed the less smell flavour and smoothness,,quality ,,stress seems to remove quality,,,pruning if done correctly does help ,just dont take enough leaves off at one time to throw your plant into stress

I have been doing my garden inside and been thinking about a sun room and or also going outdoors with my hydro for free sun cause my outdoor dirt plants are doing better than my indoor hydro... I would get better lights but.... I have other needs like equipment monitors and timers and stuff...

I do! I make a basic brew using worm castings and compost. Nothing too complicated. Works like a charm!
