Dell has this machine available in North America very early. It was probably one of the earliest OEM desktops with Intel 12th CPU. And they are always in stock! No shortage in supply! My work purchased 4 of them and it has been running great!
Andrew -- nice review! I have the XPS 8940 as my desktop -- fully loaded with Intel i9-10900 CPU and 64GB Memory - 2TB HDD/1 TB SSD. I use it for gaming, photography, and work -- word processing and spreadsheets. No liquid cooling, but it's a good set-up and it won't be outdated anytime soon.
What's really nice about the 8950, is that you can order it with a 1000W PSU, meaning you can put a higher power graphics card in it, than you can with many other prebuilts.
Thanks for the video! Nice different content form the constant laptop content. It would be nice if you did reviees of different products too, like smart phones, true wireless buds, some dacs, some high end headphones. I know its primarly laptop content, but i love seeing varied lroducts review form you.
Great review as always Andrew. It's been years since I've had a Desktop PC. Currently waiting to receive the HP ENVY 34 All-In-One PC which you reviewed on your channel some time ago. Excellent Andrew!! 👍😁
I'm considering this for my next PC and would add my own graphics and memory upgrade or a prebuilt Ibuypower PC option. I like the clean, mature look of the dell.
Hi Marc, you do excellent reviews. My tower is about three years old and I have considered just buying a desktop instead of building one. This sounds perfect for me. I teach online and need a good desktop. Thanks again.
Thank you for another excellent video! Would you use the HDD to back up the SSD? Used to have an office full of Dell Vostros. They were very easy to access (and blow out the dust bunnies once a year) Also the first LAN I ever set up (using the yellow LAN for Dummies book)
Dell puts an anemic 460watt PSU with a RTX 3060Ti (NVIDIA recommends minimal 650w with this card). Underpowered components get hot and die. The proprietary PSU is a big problem. Dell charges $200 for the 750w PSU part, which is still inadequate for a fully loaded gaming configuration. I sadly returned my 8950. Building my own now.
Noise is the deal breaker for me. My current desktop is basically silent even under load, unless something stresses the GPU (and with the old weak GPU, before I upgraded to a RTX 2070 super, it was virtually silent). I want a silent device so this will not be it...
Sure, it's never silent, but the noise is so low I'm sure unless you tried to hear it, you wouldn't. And HWMonitor says normally they are at 1333RPM. And anything you play on any type of speaker will easily overpower the fan noises.
@@thewaterwave222 I don't want to have to play speakers to cover the noise, I want total/absolute silence on my desk, anything that makes even a little noise moves to the other side of the room or is turned off....
Hi Marc, I’ve been having my XPS 8950 for a long time and I’m wondering if the case can be swapped for a gaming case? I’ve been looking everywhere but I still can’t find an answer of which is the best case for swapping
Dell uses proprietary motherboards, so no case swapping. The only things you can really swap are the CPU, GPU (if the PSU allows), and the RAM. You can't even swap in a ATX PSU, because the motherboard uses different connectors and voltages than an ATX PSU provides, and the shape of their PSU's is usually different than an ATX. They want you to throw it away and buy another one when it becomes too old, not upgrade it.
compared to the last model (8940) the motherboard lost the HDMI port and switched to DDR5 from DDR4 memory which I think was a bad idea since it cost double with very little performance gain
Has anyone ever done a Dell XPS desktop v Apple Studio M2 Ultra test? I'm looking to buy a new computer but cant decide which is best. Mainly for very large file photo editing and making videos. Which is going to be best for me?

Franco Caliò 4 ore fa I Andrew I have XPS 8940 and I want ask because when I plug the plug in the power the PC turns on for about 4 seconds and then turns off. While after I can turn it on regularly. So it is normal that it turns on by itself before being started: Thank you.
Yep. The market is people like me - I want a workhorse PC that I can also use for basic gaming, and don't want to be constantly messing with replacing processors or graphics cards every few months. I've just ordered an 8950 to replace my (home built) desktop which is now showing its age badly.
I get it why laptop comparisons are exciting. They all have keyboard, trackpad, screen, battery life, weight, size and performance difference. The best design are hard to achieve. But for the desktop, since anybody can build its dream machine, prebuilds are less exciting. Especially since OEM manufacturers just suck at desktop design.
I just bought one of these renewed for not $1800 for a unit with just 16gb ram but $700 from Amazon Renewed for the same unit with 64gb ram and a 1tb SSD. Anything new with the same specs would have cost twice maybe three times as much. Hopefully, it will work out just fine.
Got mine six months ago and love it This is my first solid state hard drive and windows 11pro. Works as fast as I can type. Just love it.

Mine delayed three times and it took a month to ship
EDIT: I got it a week ago

What about GPU?

It's nice to see a new PC with no windows and all that RGB looking like a Christmas tree. :)
What you’re talking about is a complete gaming station. Those typically look like that for attraction purposes.
Always loved Dell's XPS desktop line. I still have two - one from about 2010. The new 8950 looks real sexy!
For a desktop it seems okay. Plenty of power to perform most tasks. Great review. Nice to see something a little different reviewed.

Thanks really appreciate it 🙏

Excellent review Andrew.
USB 2.0 ports should be a thing of the past by now. I don't know why they would still include those.
so that u can use logi mx3 mouse wo any issues XD and yes i know you cna convert 3.0 to act as 2.0 in bios before you point that out
I like it that computer, thanks for the video

For a water cooled pc.....do you ever have to add....liquid?? Or is it just good to go forever?

That's Really Helped Me
Does the fan get loud with general use or just for gaming and more intense things?

Wow good switch. Please do AIOs as well
I agree, AIO's would be cool

I’m assuming the config that starts at 749.99 does not include a 3090 right?
the 3090 is an $1800 option
It would probably come with Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics.
@@thewaterwave222 shame not Rdna graphics I hear ryzen cpus have good on board graphics
Also doesn't come with an I9 either!
Good review! I bought one.
Wow this has liquid cooling that’s very cool 😎
Non standard motherboards sadly, but I know there's market for this

Is it good for 3d animation & rendering?
yes, a desktop review!
You got it!
Is there a desktop that doesn't make fan noise while editing videos
Does anyone know how to clean this pc? theres stubborn print marks like fingerprints on the metallic casing of the tower, I can't remove it :/
you mean the alienware aurora r13?
they used to make beautiful designs for example xps 600 xps 720 730 700 and now everything looks ugly
you are Exellent
How many monitors can I connect this configuration to?
With 4 monitor connectors out of the back, I would think 4

0:37 That's what she said
😆
Dell used to make monster xps but now they look ordinary
More like DULL instead of Dell, plain lookin tower!
But since it's going to sit under your desk in most cases, who cares?
Intel CPUs? No thanks...throw it in the trash.
Why?
Just relax> Intel is best!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
