    Woolworth's and 5 & dime stores where most of the Bakelite was sold is funny to me because they also sold Fiesta Ware which is highly prized by many collectors and the stores are like our 99¢ stores today!

      Debi Mitchell lol that’s so funny! However I doubt anything in our dollar stores will be sought after or even last that long other than in a landfill.

    Hi PC, At 9:10 the bangle looks totally end of day, some days they only made 2 colors so end of day looks can be a swirly mix and have very modified color differences. Oh yeah, I have the lozenge necklace at 16:45 too and found matching earrings about 3 years later in a jewelry jar----love those jewelry jars!!!

      @@PrincessCasserole Oh I was so jazzed!!! It was deeply carved and cost 50¢! Thankfully the woman I sold it to SUPER appreciated it and cares for her Bakelite! The rest wasn't as grand, just plain Bangles, sold on eBay. 😁. But I'll never part with my yellow pie server! And hubby bakes pie, too! The one thing I'd love is a Bakelite bunny!

    Rubbing did nothing. But running under hot water really brought out the smell. Mine is old. It is heavily carved with a flower and leaf motif, toffee coloured. It was given to my kids in the 80s by my mother in law as a dress up prop. Wasn't really a fan until I found out what it was.

    I thought if it smell like vapor rub it was celluloid...... I'm trying to figure out if my tiny collection if I own bakelite i as told if it smells like burn rubber it's bakelite now I'm confused. Because collection btw.

    Beautiful collection! I had heard that there is a 409 test. Does using it damage the Bakelite in any way?

    • @PrincessCasserole
      @PrincessCasserole  5 років тому

      ThatsSassy no it shouldn’t damage. I’ve heard they reformatted 409 so it doesn’t work anymore, but I’m not sure because I’ve never used it. I use the semi chrome to polish silver I can’t get clean tho so at least it’s double duty.

    On those two buttons - you should make them individual brooches, that way they can be clustered together, and if you find more buttons down the road, you could affix them all to a denim jacket (or something else, I also default to a denim jacket).
    You've made me wonder about a bunch of hoop earrings I purchased, I think they might be bakelite! I just thought they were really cool - but they have the signs you talk about, where the post of the hoop is embedded in the hoop, and they are thicker hoops, with an almost carved pattern on the outside.
    Thank you for the very informative video, it's so great of you to do these!
