- 13.5 kg #Halibut on whole mackerel as bait on baitrig from shore in #Kolvereid, Norway.
Got help from a random guy that was there that gaffed it for me and the Halibut bit 1 minute after the mackerel hit the bottom!
I used a home made baitrig that consists of a big 200g catfish bobber free on the monofilament that i have on my reel to a strong big swivel and 30 cm leader with 1.2mm monofilament to a catfish hook with a little glow in the dark tube on the line to defend the line from big teeth. This rig works amazing and is the only rig im using now, I can see the fish as it bites because of the bobber moves and theres no tangle of the line as the bobber makes the line stay away from the bottom.
Insane great condition on this Halibut that gave me a good fight and a new personal best!!

Awesome that you can fish Halibut right off to the bank there. What is the water depth? I’ve only fished for them from a boat, in deep waters
Its like 5 meters, halibut go really shallow in the summer
what depth do you set the float from the bottom.
its just inline, so it floats above always so the line doesnt get stuck in rocks, but with alot of current or waves the bobber will float into shore sometimes but that does nothing.
@@KetilFishing ah ok thats a clever idea. will have to try that for my local marks as its all weed and rocks can only really lure fish from shore due to the nature of the coast
