Funny
Love it lol
I tried ur recipe and it turned out really nice.... thanks...
Omg did I just hear what I heard aaah jajaja 🤣🤣👍
I made the baked version today. Couple of things that I think everyone should know. Baking takes a LONG TIME. I know it doesn’t seem like it in the video, but between soaking, drying, baking, flipping, baking, and crisping, it is a 2 hour process. Plan accordingly.
These need to be peeled. The skin will burn in the oven if you don’t.
Rather than leave the oven completely open to crisp, I would crack it open and keep an eye. I found that my fries were getting cold after the 10 min crisping period.
Other than that, the ones that came out well were the best fries I’ve done in the oven. Good recipe.
15 mins in airfryer
I love how clean your stove and pot are. I get turned off watching dirty chefs.
Thank you for video. Fried is my fav too.
Cleanliness is a massive part of cooking. It’s not nice to cook in a dirty environment. I’m glad you enjoyed it. The fried version of this recipe is amazing! 😊
Can I use apple Cider vinegar
I love how you describe everything, I'm 65 a retired cook but I enjoy your recipes. I always cook for two so your way of cooking makes it easy I used to have a problem making smaller dishes.
Glad you enjoy it all! Thank you 🙏
Im glad that in every video the chef describe and show every steps including the way of cutting it :)
Glad you enjoy it!
"we soak to help get rid of the starch"
"so then we add starch that they naturally lack"
It’s a different type of starch. We remove any natural starch which will prevent them from being soggy and replace it with a starch (corn or potato) which will get them crispy. 👌
@@ChefJackOvens Fair, I was just kidding anyway, they looked great!
Haha, all good! Glad you enjoyed it! 👌👌
LOL...I KNOW...Right!
That was also my question. Thanks!
There's a place in town I always go to for sweet potato fries and I just love the textures and flavors you get from them. Thank you so much for this recipe. I'm saving it.
They are something special. Please enjoy these ones!
Thank you for this video! I actually made the fried recipe a few months ago and they came out great. I’m wondering though if arrowroot powder might work, or is that too similar a starch as yams?
I’m going to try this tonight! So excited because a couple restaurants serve this amazing sauce I couldn’t find for years and finally found a recipe for it today! Honey Siracha is the name for anyone who wants a hotter sauce to complement this amazing side!
Awesome! Please enjoy them 😊👌

Honey + Sriracha mixed together or a Sriracha with honey?
GREAT video! I followed your fried version step by step and made my best sweet potato fries yet!
Fantastic! Great job. Glad you enjoyed them.
Thank you for this video! Very easy to follow, and they taste great! Just curious as to why we have to let the fries cool after boiling them before frying them?
I’m glad you enjoyed it! The reason being is to allow any excess moisture to drain. Letting them cool and dry will allow them to crisp more! 👌
These came out perfect! Great video!!
Glad you enjoyed them!
None of the above. I simply boil it , my lazy cheap and quick way. Great idea you have. It's an option.
Good recipe! I fried mine and they turned out perfect! YUM
Glad you liked it!!
Thank you for sharing your tips. I will be making the baked version tomorrow. Enjoyed your video!
You are so welcome! I hope you enjoy them.
thank you for making it so easy to follow. i didn't know how to make crunchy sweet potato fries. yummy
Very nice ! I’ll give a try . Thanks chef you are amazing ☺️
Please do! Thank you very much. 😊🙏
Can't wait to try the fried version! Thank you :)
Southern twist is sprinkle with mixture of salt, brown sugar and cinnamon after frying. Then mix a pinch cayenne with honey mustard for a dip. Addicting
Sounds delicious 👌🤤
Hi Chef, thanka for the recipe. I did the bake version. The sweet potatoes were so crunchy and yummy!!
That’s awesome to hear! Glad you enjoyed them
Tried the fried ones! Turned out really well! Thanks:)
Awesome, this is great to hear! Glad you enjoyed them!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, appreciate. My choice - fried ones...
Thank you so much for the head up!
FYI they came out really good!!
Corn starch and vinegar made the difference!! Gracias compadre!!😷😎
You’re very welcome. I’m pleased to hear you enjoyed them.
easy to follow. best.
Thanks i made these for my mom they were great. nice and crispy
Glad you like them!
Thank you
I'm trying the fried version right away!
Please do!
I can't imagine myself creating so much washing-up for few French fries,
but I do understand that if you want good food, you cook it right.
I tried the boil then fry method, it turned out amazing, crispy outside and soft inside
thank you
Awesome to hear! Glad you enjoyed them.
I'm doing the fried sweet potato fries according to your recipe.. can't wait...😋😋😋
Please enjoy 😊
Great video! Thanks for the information!
You’re very welcome
It is sooo worth the time I tried it and it tasted like heaven and it best eaten with sour cream
Trying the fried version as I post my comment! Can’t wait 😝
Hope you enjoy them 😊
So Chef..this is something I do not get..you soak the sweet potatoes to remove the starch (in order to get crispy) and then you add starch (in order to get crispy).
How does this work?
The natural starch in sweet potatoes contain pectin, we remove that and add a new starch that will crisp. The natural starch will steam the potatoes and not get them crisp. With the fried version. The vinegar slows the breakdown of pectin allowing them too crisp, without the natural sugars burning. If we were to fry them without adding the cornstarch, the potatoes will become soggy. There’s a bit of science involved in the recipe.
@@ChefJackOvens Thanks for the reply!
Awesome !
Thanks for sharing
You’re very welcome 😊
I just use an oil strainer from Amazon for $5 USD, And into an Empty Clean Apple Juice Container . The strainer is meant for used oil and catches any burnt or excess particles. For $5 it makes the process of Saving Oil Sooooo Easy 😁.
Btw, my potato slices are cooling and just about to go into my cornstarch slurry. Thanks very much for your video. Hopefully it turns out ok !😁
thank you! i'm cooking mine at the present moment :))
The incredible lack of wastage in your videos is giving me life!!! Awesome job!!! ✨
I like that he gives us other useful tips
Glad you enjoy them!
I love sweet potato fries! Im totally making this soon using your method. Usually, I like to season them with italian herbs. Thanks Chef!
They are really good! You can add any of your favourite seasonings to these. 😊
Great video! Is potato starch a good substitute for corn starch?
Yes it is! Thank you very much.
Thanks I’ll use this method tonight in my new deep frying machine
👌👌
Gracias ☺️
🙏🙏
Thank you!!! not everyone wants to bake. Sometime your viewers dont even have oven or microwave like me😩 I could only do fried or skillet recipes
You’re very welcome! 👌

My pleasure.
Chef Jack Ovens Hey Jack, I did your chops mate turned out great couldn’t believe I am starting to cook now take care mate. Hope your well keep safe
Glad I found your channel.
Glad you did too! Hello and welcome 🙏
worth 10 out off 10
🙏🙏
Looks lovely 😍 any alternative to cornflour? I've got plain flour.. I don't really cook lol
Unfortunately not in this case. You will need the cornflour.
@@ChefJackOvens awww ok, I'll be making trip to Sainsburys then lol.. thanks for your reply
Looking forward to making these fried sweet potatoes
They’re so good and super crunchy. 😊
Jack you are so good indeed amazing explanation well done 👍
Glad you think so!
Superb
Thanks 🤗
Nice
Im glad you like it!
Can I do this in the air fryer too? Same steps?
I do hate the flipping part whenever I bake something,
which is why I use a net like tray so they cook on both sides at the same time.
Would rice flour work in replace of the corn flour? Wanting to make these tonight but don’t have any corn flour 😩
Unfortunately not sorry. You need the corn flour or potato starch to get the crunch, without these you won’t get a crispy skin.
I just harvested my sweet potatoes, this looks like a must do 🤔👍
It's so good!
Hey Jack, could you air fry them to be just as crispy and tasty as the fried version? Thanks Mate
Yes you can. I personally have never made them in an air fryer but, it will work the same as the baked version.
very good
Glad you think so!
yummy thanks
Glad you think so!
Thank you for the recipe, tried the fried version turned out great
That’s great to hear! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
You're really gooood!!! Love it😄
Thank you so much!!
@@ChefJackOvens I'm trying it out right now as we speak. Thank you very much definitely earned yourself a new subscriber 😄😄
Heyyyy. Ok so if I want to add paprika to my fries (fried) do I add it after frying them or with the wet corn starch mixture?
You can make a little paprika salt mix to add to the fries once they’ve been cooked 👌👌
Better ad any spices after cooking or they will burn and loose all flavor
@@piccoleitor ....yep! Will possibly make a bitter taste too!
Yesterday I baked sweet potato!! I craved fried one but worried calories.. It was nice but some were bit bitter maybe I overcooked☹️ So im gonna make again following this recipe!! Now my new question is which one would be my snack between baked potato and baked sweet potato 😋
Prop up youtube algorithm to bring your cream mushroom recipe up to mine. Im supposed to sleep but cant stop watching😂😂
I'm very sorry for the late reply! The natural sugars (Pectin) that's in sweet potato do burn very quickly and definitely taste bitter, unfortunately. The fried version is amazing but obviously not as healthy as the baked. You should 100% give this recipe a go, be it baked or fried they are both delicious. Thank you for watching!
👌
Great video. So I went through comments and no one asked this. Can I substitute vinegar with lemon? I want to make this today 😊
I'm so sorry for the late reply!! Yes you can! Please enjoy
@@ChefJackOvens thank you.
Looks good 👍 have you ever tried these in air fryer
Thank you. To be honest, no I haven’t. I’m sure they would work very well though 😊
Hi Chef, I'm making the fried version as I write this. I purchased expeller Sunflower oil, but what about Avocado or Coconut oil for deep frying?
Hey Marc. Avocado oil has a really high point, meaning it can be heated to a very high temperature (260c-500f). If you do deep fry in avocado oil, it will let off a nutty flavour, which will be passed onto anything you deep fry in it. Coconut oil is also good, around 90% of the fatty acids in coconut oil are saturated, making it resistant to heat. Please enjoy the fries, they are so good!
@@ChefJackOvens can I use apple cider vinegar in the boiling instead Chef ?
I use light refined olive oil...takes the heat better than extra virgin and not as much of the olive taste!
If you leave the skin on for the fry version will it make them less crispy?
does rice vinegar work if you do not have white vinegar on hand
Step one. Make sure the sweet potatoes are still good.
I'll have to come back and try this one again. Lol
Haha! That does help.
: (
Top lad
🙏🙏
That's a damn sharp knife
It really is
How do you remember the little tips like add white vinegar to sweet potato for thst reason, do you have notes or just remember naturally after being a chef so long?
Whats your thoughts on induction hobs? Ive alwags used gas hobs but looking to build a house and unsure for the future
Hey Dan. Yeah it’s just a muscle memory sort of thing like riding a bike, especially after doing it for so long. I do have to refresh my memory on certain things every now and again but it comes back in an instant.
Personally I rarely use induction unless I really need to but that just my preference. They do heat up a lot faster but can be uneven in temperature distribution. Gas is also a lot cheaper than electricity.
@@ChefJackOvens, thanks, gas is what I'm used to so I'll stick with a gas hob. Im assuming that electric ovens cook more evenly, again ive only used a gas oven.
Would it be good placing the chips on a wire rack to avoid them sticking when cooking, would it make much difference?
It wont make too much difference but will allow better airflow around the fries. The baking paper (parchment paper) will prevent them from sticking. If you wanted to do it this way, I'd recommend putting the parchment paper on the wire rack. Let me know how you go.
@@ChefJackOvens thanks for your reply, I'm new to using sweet potato, went vegan a week ago, using ingredients I've never tried before, going to do them tomorrow probably
Please enjoy. Sweet potatoes are an amazing vegetable!
I am a lazy single guy, and I detest extra washing- up ( no dishwasher )
my sweet potatoes are still soaking
listening to your comment, I will give the extra distance......I got this far. I love all the information....I can steal. stay safe
love from Canterbury U.K.
I don't have any vinegar of any sort, so I'm attempting the fried version with corn flour and lime!
At beginning you soaked them to get rid of starch.. Then you say you add corn starch as they have no natural starch? Explain please
do you know what i could replace the cornstarch with?
Unfortunately cornstarch or cornflour is needed in this recipe. It’s what gives the sweet potato it’s crispness. Anything else will cause the potatoes to become soggy and burn.
how come you make a cornstrach slurry for frying but not baking
Yummo :D
They really are! Thanks for watching.
Can I use grapeseed oil for the fried version?
Great question! Unfortunately its high levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids make it unsuitable for high-heat cooking, such as frying.
The fried ones , we need to put into oven ?
At. With pretty much social distancing them- made me like and subscribe
Haha awesome! Thanks so much! 🙏
Can I use the oil again for any deep frying? I think what I am asking is, will the flavour from the sweet potatoes be in the oil?
Hey Steven! It won’t taste heavily of sweet potato but may have a slight smell of them. It will still be fine to use to deep fry anything else 😊
Duration of time for preheating?
..pretty much social distancing....Luv it..
.
Haha
Great recipe, was kinda looking forward to an audio of the crunch at the end :p
Thank you. I apologise for this. Unfortunately I don't have some of the suitable equipment required for full audio production. I am in the process of upgrading and will include this kind of thing in future videos.
@@ChefJackOvens all good mate, no stress, thanks for the good work
I keep the skin on the potato as there is a lot of good nutrients in the skin itself :)
Is the parchment paper necessary? or can i use aluminum foil? sorry if this has been asked already!
Please don't be sorry! Aluminium foil does work however they may slightly stick.
Chef Jack Ovens thank you for the quick response! I’m excited to make them!
good video
hope you keep update :)
Thank you, I will!
Can i fry regular potatoes the same way؟
Can I use apple cider vinegar instead of white vinegar?
Can I replace cornstarch with corn flour?
I'm making these rn I really need to know😂
I’m sorry for the late reply, I wish I had seen this earlier. It’s fine to replace the cornstarch with corn flour, they are very similar in what they do. I hope you enjoyed them! 😊
@@ChefJackOvens do we have to use vinegar?
Is it at all possible to cook sweet potatoe chips without corn starch ? I’m feeling incredibly lazy to walk to my local shop to buy them 😞
