You are wrong on Gailey take, you are clueless with tua. Tua struggled to see the field even when he did have time in the pocket… those deep route one on ones is exactly what coaches dialed up when defenses were pouncing on short stuff what are you suppose to do force the short stuff.. you are clueless and again Miami Dolphins need a soldier not scared to get hit.. week 17 in goal line down by 3 scores tua runs and instead of fighting for the touchdown against a defender he slides and doesn’t put his body on the line like other players on this team would have… tua can improve but so can Nathan peterman right…. But will that improvement ever be near the elite who make the playoffs… Doubt it. Tua will hold this team back if he starts again and will waste an elite secondary…. Players won’t want to play here with tua and only way they come to Miami is to over pay for mediocre talent… you have to many subs but all these positive comments you got praising you good job are the same ones who bought tua jerseys day 1…

Josh Allen has a way better skill set let alone that his physical tools allow him a larger margin for error. Tua doesn't have that where the scheme has to be truly built around him. He's a classic pocket QB to where the system and personel have to be perfect around him. The question is that are the Dolphins committed to building the offense around Tua's strengths? Rather than becoming frustrated by his physical shortcomings.

I'm a Patriots fan and while I really dislike the Dolphins, I'm not gonna give up on Tua yet. He does have a lot of issues that he has to work on, but at the same time, it's just his rookie year and you can't always give up on guys after 1 season. Plus Tua didn't have a lot of in-person stuff in the offseason due to COVID, didn't have a good supporting cast, wasn't developed properly, was coming of a SERIOUS SERIOUS injury, was playing the hardest position in the game, and again, was a rookie who was bound to make some mistakes.

Granted, so was Fitz, who still made it work. But it's just something to remember when evaluating him and his unwillingness to throw to 50/50 balls. Throwing a 50/50 ball to Devante Parker is very different to throwing one to Allen Hurns lol

I respect this video, but I feel it’s a bit misleading. A) Tua had no separation, and yes Ik not everyone gets to chose their dream team to play with, but Miami was last in separation and had the most drops. B) Take the bengals play u showed as an example. They blitz the extra man so he has to get the ball out quick, but Grant doesn’t run a clean route and Parker doesn’t turn his head. Now Tua is dead meat so he tried to wait for Gesicki to turn his head, because him throwing to unaware WRs happened too much. @@clownindan Tua Tagovailoa never said he didn't understand the playbook at all. He said, and emphasized, he didn't know the playbook "really, really good", meaning he didn't know the whole playbook from front to back, considering he didn't have the time to do so, because of the rehab process, the pandemic restrictions, and the lack of a proper NFL off-season/preseason. However, he probably did know about 40-60% of the playbook. He even added that he knew certain plays, that Chan Gailey was calling, did not work because of the look defenses were giving him, but since he didn't have the freedom to check out of plays and check into others, from the coaches, he stuck with the play(s). For example, after the Chargers game, Tua (in a post-game press conference) admitted that he and his teammates were sometimes not on the same page with Chan Gailey and his offensive play-calling. And do you even know how hard it is for a first-year rookie QB (or rookies, in general) to learn a complex NFL playbook (NFL playbooks are much thicker and have a lot more terminologies you have to learn/memorize), in their first year? Most rookie QBs in the NFL don't fully understand or memorize an NFL playbook in their first years, especially with all the obstacles and hardships, and unfortunate circumstances, that Tua had to endure in his first year, as an NFL rookie, and he still had a solid NFL rookie season, despite being out of football shape and around 60% healthy (according to Nick Hicks of Per4orm, Tua's personal fitness trainer). I took the Wonderlic and I didn't do to great either. It's a 50 Q test that you only have 12 min to answer; that test is worthless, and it does not determine a football player's IQ and acumen. Also, even Herbert and Brady (a 20+ year veteran NFL QB, the first season as a Buccaneers QB) admitted they didn't know their entire respective playbooks. You're just a fucking hater. Regarding Tua's intelligence and football IQ, you're severely underestimating his. Steve Sarkisian, Tua's former OC at Alabama (2019-2020), and Matt Ryan's former OC in ATL (2017-2018), and now the current HC for the University of Texas, said that Tua is the most naturally instinctual QB/signal-caller that he's ever coached, and that during live games, he would check-out/check into plays (audible) that the Alabama offense didn't even run in practice. So go kick rocks, you fucking clown 🤡.

Tua may also be a guy who has a learning style that doesn't pick up things quickly but when he does learn it and gets comfortable with the information he never forgets it. As a freshman at Alabama he played sparingly and it wasn't until the second half of the national championship game where we really saw him and even in that game he made several questionable decisions. The next year he was spectacular and as a former high school teacher I used to see this with students. Some students were slow learners but once they grasped the concepts they never forgot it and applied their knowledge consistently over and over with very few mistakes while others learned concepts quickly but were inconsistent in applying what they learned. It's also possible Tua could be a bust or just okay but in the short history we have with him on the field he doesn't seem to be a guy who just grasp concepts quickly but did show he can grow and grasp those concepts eventually.

For example you talked about pushing the ball down the field and was curious on your thoughts about his ability to push the ball down field near the end of the game I'm not sure if you have anything to say about it but there was a nice deep ball to Parker that sticks out to me and I think it went for about 40 ish yards but I was wondering if you would call that development of his deep ball or more due to the desperate state the Dolphins were in at that point in the game

Maybe this was a trend he saw on film, but then there has to be a better example than that. \

i'll make this easy - imagine coming into your first season in the NFL as a rookie whilst not fully fit and off the back of a major hip injury (will effect all aspects of throwing and movement) and no pre-season at all to speak of. He still went 6 for 3 and there weren't enough weapons for him. He barely knew the playbook as you can go through the plays as many times as you want on a tablet, but this isn't Madden - PLAYING those plays is what gets you familiarity and used to the pre snap audibles.
In the UK they put a huge amount of emphasis on pre-season in the Premier League in soccer as that is where a player gets his chemistry with his team mates and learns the tactics, yes it's a different sport but i'd argue that in the NFL there is much more to learn with the variety in a playbook and the chemistry with a larger group of players - it's played down too much by the NFL media.
If he and Gaskin improve just a little this year then Miami should make the playoffs.

He was a rookie coming off a major injury WITHOUT a real training camp and NO preseason. The offense was tailored to Fitz, multiple WRs opted out and multiple WRs were hurt. He went 6-3 (Fitz gets that other win) and he was pulled twice, once when it was obvious he was going to get hurt and once when he just wasn't moving the ball; both instances, down by only one score. There were multiple rookies starting along the O line and a couple vets they brought in were steady but not great. He had no running game to speak of most weeks. The plan was for him to go in after the bye week but because the pretty, pretty princess Patriots had trouble, the whole league adjusted their schedule making him come in weeks before he was supposed to be in there (original bye was a full year after his injury). If that is struggling, I will take it every time...6-3, 64% 11-5 as a rookie.
This year, he will have better core and lower body strength and an offense designed for him and will know it with a full off season. Don't wring your hands.

#1-health-You can see that he did not trust his hip in some of those throws. He didn’t have a strong set, build of energy or follow through from his waist down. That will kill his pass strength and lead to uneasiness in the pocket. You can definitely see a difference in his throwing motion right now but he is not being rushed yet.
#2-knowledge of the playbook- Was this only on him or did Gaily have say in this also. We will never know for sure but some will pretend too. Either way more comfort in a playbook designed for him will be a huge boost. Gaily did say he did not like the style of play Tua was comfortable with last year.
#3-the team around him-3 starting rookie Olineman with Karros, Flowers and Davis mixed in. Great potential but that did not help last year. Parker, Gesicki, Williams for a bit then Grant who was going to be at best the 5th WR option bumped up to #3, Bowden who was a project and then special teasers and practice squaders to throw to. The unknown backfield that relied on the #3 RB.
#4-ROOKIE-Tua was a rookie on a team that had an awesome defense and was looking to make the playoffs. In that situation the play calling for him was going to be conservative anyway. In other words don’t lose the game. He also had to get used to the speed of the opposing D lineman trying to kill him yet alone the coverage.
Those are all facts that surrounded Tua’s rookie year. Not excuses but facts. #1&3 seem to be handled. It is on Tua to take care of #2&4. In my opinion I think he will rise to the occasion but what do I know? I’m just a hopeful Dolphins fan in Ohio wanting a Super Bowl.

Some of the great QBs in league history took some time to develop before they became the all-time greats that we know them as today. Terry Bradshaw, Troy Aikman, Drew Brees, and Eli Manning, among others. Just because a QB didn't throw for 3,000+ yards and 20+ TDs in his rookie year doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be a bust.

Burrow didn't play leagues better. People was hyping him (cause he made a splash play or two for a bad team) and let the media control the narrative.
Tua was hesitant and had less talent at nearly every level of the offense then the other rookies.
I'm not worried at all. This very page called Tua a system QB, just like Brady, Dress, nearly every QB in the league that has success.
What happens when you put Tua in a (honestly) bad system. Fritz played good but was still a middle of the pack QB in a system built for him.
Tua will look completely different. I'll beat on it. I seen enough to cultivate a top 10 QB.

  • @chesspiece589
    @chesspiece589 3 роки тому +1

Ngl, we don't know much about what happens behind the scenes but I believe Chan Gailey definitely had something to do with Tua's unsuccess. Apparently he preferred Fitzpatrick under center and I wonder if he purposefully made it hard for Tua to learn the playbook and develop in general. We know that he called more conservative plays for Tua compared to Fitzpatrick, but I feel that he almost "set him up" for "failure". Perhaps Gailey was the voice to bench him in those games. Either way, new OCs, new playbook. Time to reset Tua. It's Tua time again.

The Dolphins limited the playbook options for Tua. If they were that serious about his lack of talent, or progression they would have taken Lance, Fields, or Jones. They babied him due to his injury, they were surprisingly in the playoff hunt a year early. That is why they hedged the bet with Fitzpatrick/Tua.
They had no running back, a weak offensive line, and no true speedster on the outside.
