- I’m not touching this job with a 10’ pile and American Standard Water Heater Company isn’t either! Multiple Stop Work Orders and Unsafe For Entry - can they plaster any more notices on the front door to this apartment building?

building permit building permit application construction permit no plumbing permit
Open ceiling tiles are a fire code violation.
Somebody forgot to wet the beaks of local inspectors !!!
I’m always explaining what combustion air is to new home owners once you say flame roll out they quickly understand
Some of the scariest things I've seen were at volunteer fire fighters homes.
As a Building Official those installs are making my head hurt. Then again here in Texas I regularly have to point out to plumbers that getting their fresh air from a low pitch roof foamed attic doesn't meet the cubic foot per btu requirement on a weekly basis. I am also a bit flummoxed that they are so nonchalant about the water-heaters shutting down on the regular when legionella is a thing.
Wow a fire department, causing it's own fire hazard...I cannot even put into words...
I think a plumber caused the problem there, not the fire department. If they were plumbers they would have installed it themselves.
@@MookieMan1 The job wasn't inspected nor a permit pulled obviously...at a fire department...
@@cmc7256 we still don’t know all the facts. It wasn’t some random firefighter who just decided to hire a plumber. Maybe the fire commissioners were under the impression the plumber was securing the necessary permits.
@@MookieMan1 ... how many firemen DON'T have a second job? Oh right... most of them do, especially in a volunteer department. (that area is 90% volunteer) Good chance that was installed by one of the guys, or someone that one of the guys knows very well.
@@rupe53 Elmont FD’s budget last year was $8.6 million. They don’t have Joe Bob the tillerman or engine chauffeur installing water heaters.
When did we allow the local government to get so rediculious that you can't repair water damaged drywall without a fing permit?
Classic example of “Buy Cheap, Buy Twice”.🤦♂️
Buy nice or buy twice.
Buy once, cry once.

If they were re-issued a occupancy permit then the inspector would remove the tags from the front doors
Just got 2 more Bosch Shirts and a bunch of stickers in the mail today- badass thank you- favorite sticker is the hacks bring me stacks
Dont walk away.....run!!
Man those permit police real serious about their jobs. You know what they say” those who can’t teach” yes shady work but wow. Should put some more signs on the door lol
It just sucks that builders put AC units and water heaters in the worst locations possible; that said…… there are builders out there, who actually do a great job building a nice big mechanical room for everything, and then have a plumber properly plumb and install the equipment, it does exist; and those rooms/systems look absolutely gorgeous 👍🏻
I guess it was easier to print and stick up notices than fighting bad guys in the subway in NY.
🙄
while it gives me a chuckle, the fire department has such bad issues in their own "house", there have been fire stations that burned completely down in the past and usually from stupid things like that! holy molly.
I would think the union guys that likely installed the unit would have known better. I know lots of fireman that do HVAC work on their days off. The same town that shuts down an apartment building has problems in it's own house!
Hello from the great state of Michigan. Saint Mike you crack me up
0:42 Typical New York local government service. That top left sign instructs the owner to contact the Department of Buildings immediately, but only between 9am and 1030am Monday through Friday. Really?
2:00 Why do you need a permit to remove damaged drywall?
3:00 The owners haven't removed those signs that are now obsolete?
WTF.
Obviously the permit is not needed to physically do the work, but in an occupied building the permit process is about making sure the repairs are done to code. That means inspections to keep workers from doing shortcuts and leaving water damaged insulation or 2x4s or wiring, behind new sheetrock.
Drywall may have a mold issue
Point 1: that is some poor customer service and I run a permitting department. 2. If using regular sheetrock in areas subject to direct water hardi backer or equivalent is required to prevent mold growth. Humid areas would require greenboard or the like. 3. Likely the signs are still up because they have pulled permits but haven't abated the code issues. Mikey''s made the right call about noping out on that.
People will use people who do the work the cheapest way that place you were there to inspect the hot water heaters and the same person may have done the work at the fire department, it will get someone in the end sometimes the wrong person gets it that had no connection to install.
I thought I saw an air grill at the back of that closet. Was it just surplus stored?
That didn't look like a high temp sprinkler head as well. Man oh man
What a cluster!@#%^. As for the fire dept, one of the volunteers who might be a plumber probably installed it. Lmfbo
Flushing the FD heater would be a challenge.
Brings back memories of the felafel house 👎😂
I understand that you don't want to get in the middle of the mess between the AHJ and the owner and didnt want to do anything that would compromise AS's position, at the first building, but what was your initial assessment of what is wrong with the installation that it occasionally shuts down? The piping for fresh air and venting seemed a bit convoluted and confusing. I admit I am no expert on commercial water heaters.
I agree. #1. The PVC probably was not pitched right causing condensate to accumulate. That would cause the shut down since the exhaust flow is restricted. #2 CPVC or preferably a higher temperature rated PVC type material needs to be used in a commercial setting. The pipes should be dark grey for the exhaust side.
The name on the permit told me all I need to know...
reminded me of the guy who put the bucket over the exhaust of his gas water heater.
Dude is probably loaded. I deal with that in IT. The doctor will not buy new computers for his office staff and want me to keep putting bandaids on 15 year old computers.
*state.
Lmaoooo nawwww don’t worry about those stickers just come on in
Hey Mikey. If I ever move to New York. I'm moving near you do I can work for you. I'm a boiler guy. Would love a Mikey pipes shirt. Let me know how to go about getting it
What's the fix for both?
Hey bro, i got a question irrelevant to this video, how the hell do i clear CL code from a pioneer ductless split WTO model..if you can help id be very grateful..
Mike it's like the old roadrunner cartoon with these firehouse issues, whip out the old acme bag and fix it, oh without permits. Mike if it wasn't on video, we have a hard time believing it.
gives me flashbacks to your videos from halal express
Does American standard pay you your normal labor rate or do they have like a flat rate based on zip code? I was down in Myrtle Beach last month and I saw a HVAC van that advertised right on the side of it "$79.99/hour labor rate!" and that wouldn't even get you a handyman in my State.
Thumbs up bro!
Epic!
If the building was being REPAIRED I would not pull a permit , it should not be illegal to fix your house or property
I've run across a lot of stuff that is not safe due to homeowners thinking they want to be plumbers to try to save a dollar it's not worth your life or your family's life pay the plumber
Too many elbows on the PVC exhaust and most likely the wrong size pipe.
No combustion air, all new installs must be brought up to code and even if it had a combustion air intake make sure it’s working and not plugged or restricted.
Can you please elaborate on what was wrong with the dual Ariston install? I think improper type of exhaust tubing, anything else?
If you have an OUT, you have to have an IN.
I’m still amazed that the building department has so much authority. It’s just not ok at all that we as a people have given up so much authority. I personally think that there is always a way s
For the owner of a building to go ahead and do their own work and then tell the building department that it’s been done
I gave these guys an estimate not too long ago😭😭😭
Hey mikey! Love your channel! How could I go about ordering a couple of those let’s go Bosch shirts in a size medium?
Thanks Mikey! Then can I send 50$ to your cash app along with my address and size shirt to get the t shirts? @@PipeDoctor
In some cases, building permits are underrated, why should you need permission to do work on your own property.
because it's an apartment with tenants and you're risking their safety to save a buck. If it's your own residence, you're probably doing shitty work and will eventually sell the house to an unsuspecting sap.
You can work on your own property for most things as long as it's a single family residence.
Because when you have things like electricity and gas products peoples lives could be in danger. Therefore that's why there's permits so companies are held accountable.
It's actually not permission to work on your own place. The permit process is about letting the building dept / inspectors know what's going on and making sure the end result is a safe installation, which is why it's inspected at the end.
Because if you don't for can literally kill people, you can cause problems for neighbors, you can destroy the block with a fire...
The house will likely exist longer than you are alive, the people afterwards will have to buy the house. If you sell the house, do work, and then something happens because you did 't get a permit or inspect work, you could be held liable.
quick and dirty door vent install would fix it ya but people to lazy to do it the proper way
LOL, a permit for a water heater.
Water heaters with gas emits CO2 and carbon monoxide. Improper venting or connections of the gas line can result in combustible air and also carbon monoxide poisoning of the residents.
Can we say"HAPPY OWNERSHIP REPAIR-and of course they get the cheapest of the cheap to fix,AND THEN...........................
Dam .. that funny you know just as mush as I know the haven’t paid that fine ..
but the fire department passed inspection
Go Home 🏠 Mikey Pipes 😂
Is this owned by the brothers of halal express
too funny....cant make it up
Do not enter means don't enter
Haha. Get the hell out of there.
Doh !!!!!
Is that discoloring or is it cpvc. Nassau and Suffolk filled with it.
Looks like it's overheating
typical look of long term overheated pvc pipe. which is the reason it's no longer allowed in many locations, it will cost them a fortune to replace it all now.
Good Lord...
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
11 thumbs up
I own a 1 family home in Queens which uses oil for heating and gas for cooking. I'm thinking about switching over to gas and I have a licensed plumber telling me I don't need a permit to switch over because I already have a gas line. I tried to Google it but what I found was related to homes that didn't have gas at all. Are there any plumbers here who can provide a little input on my situation. I just spent a grand on 237 gallons of oil!! Ooooooweeeeeee!!
