- I am a beginner when it comes to identifying rocks and minerals. As I explore Rockhounding along the east coast of Vancouver Island, this video shows a variety of rocks and stones that are unique to the beaches of this Canadian coastline. Some include dallasite, flowerstones - also known as porphyry. In some places, these stones are also called chrysanthemum stones and chinese writing stones. I also find other unidentified specimens and some other more common rocks such as jasper and chert.

NIle is one of my favorite beaches. have done many relaxing hours there. as you show theres always a great supply of tumblestones. especially red jasper, dallasite and nice bright white quartz. great video!
Do the flower patterns go very deep? I’ve never seen those before. I love them. And thank you for teaching me about new rocks!
Omg i have found flower rocks on our property in Snohomish wa. So cool!!!
Oh wow!
What to do with those rocks that you tumble? Practice catch and release rock hounding. That is take them back to where you found them, and leave them on the picnic tables for somebody else to find, maybe a little kid. What a find! Treasure it!
There is a beautiful beach called sombrio on Vancouver Island that I've found a ton of agates on
The porphyry you have over there is nothing like the stuff I can find in Ontario, very cool stuff!!
The flowerstones are definitely quite unique here. I wish we had the amazing agates found in Ontario!
@@LiquidFogCreations yes we do have some nice ones around Lake Superior and Huron, I hope to do some trips to a couple places this year to do some agate hunting.
So much a person can learn regarding rocks
if one is so inclined… 😝
Nice video! Fellow beginner in the area and this was helpful 💎
Awesome! Best of luck on your learning journey and hope you find some treasures!
Beautiful finds and great video! Mind if ask whereabouts you were hunting? I’m heading over to the Island soon and would love to find a few pieces of dallasite to bring home :)
Anywhere along the coast from Nanaimo to Comox. Dallasite is so easy to find as you get anywhere north of Nanaimo. Same with flowerstones.
What area is this,
This is north of Nanaimo on various beaches along the Eastern coastline.
Qualicum bay or Fanny Bay?
It’s north of Qualicum and almost up to Fanny Bay.
You do know you can sell rocks , don't you ? People will buy them.
