I really want a Nocturne that leans into the aspects of fear that Fiddlesticks isn't. Fiddlesticks can know that something scares you, but it can't understand why it scares you. It will repeat sounds from your trauma, but it can't find the words to twists your hopes into something horrible. Fiddlesticks is a primal impersonal fear. Make Nocturne the fear that can only come from someone who that understands your thoughts and how to turn them against you specifically.
Reminds me of Thalamus from death's gambit This character not only does this, but also tries to twist you i am way that just makes you, worse, he tries everything to turn you into the worst version of yourself, he goes as far as pretending to be an ally and make you doubt those who are really trying to help
This makes sense. Fiddle is more primal animal instinct gut terror and Nocturne is more gaslighting mind games and illusions since he's in your nightmares. Fiddle is the older, stronger demon, but Nocturne is more intimately screwing with you. Like the difference between an unknowable horror scratching at your windows and your abusive ex finding the key to your house.
I could also see Nocturne leaning into concepts like Anxiety and Doubt. He's every self-deprecating thought you've ever had, the voice whispering in the back of your mind "What if it doesn't work? What if it all goes wrong? What if they're lying? What if I'm not good enough? What if I make things worse?" Still related to fear but different from the primal gut feeling of Fiddlesticks
Gameplay wise, there is also something in the fact that her base Lux is all about casting spells that cost 6 mana, and then dealing damage with her light, where as dream version is oriented towards protecting everyone. It’s almost like she wishes she could just do good and protect those around her, when in the real world she can so easily cause destruction and war if she isn’t careful. I like the yin yang symbolism there.
Notice in the first splash art, too, there's a couple of figures in the background near the bottom left that are shadowy silhouettes with glowing eyes. Gee I wonder who's messing with this 'dream' from the get go.

I don't know if I'm reaching too far, but Lux's staff has been changed from the usual geometric shape to an azurite eagle, which is her family's crest. Since it's a dream world, maybe a sign that she wants a better relationship with her family?
Ezreal/Lux became a thing with the Aatrox reveal picture. It was framed as an expedition report from Ezreal, who collected artifacts linked to Aatrox. In one corner there was a childish love doodle of him and Lux. Someone pointed that out in the comments. Afterwards, the reveal picture got reuploaded without the doodle.

For the tangeant on the Lux and Ezreal ship. They have been hinted at in Star Guardians as well. They had a whole story on the universe where they basically flirt the whole time. Outside of skinlines however, they have never really met. There was implications that Ezreal has a crush on her because of a doodle on his desk on the announcement for his VGU and the voiceline on Aram where his uncle asks about her. He also has a voiceline specifically for her when meeting her on Summoners rift, but he does flirt with other women ( I beleive he has a line with Xayah ). I think its meant to be all just for show tho, and -if they plan on making them a thing - hes really just flirting around because thats what a "cool guy" would do. That's the extent of the canon until Runeterra came around.

As an LoR nerd, here is my understanding of how Runeterra's economy and focus got to this place: 1) Their basic plan was respectable: the basic card economy is generous enough that everyone will have a complete collection without doing the usual exploitative card pack format and they'll make all their money on cosmetics and battle passes. After all, they're Riot. Of course they'll make their money back on cosmetics. 2) They do not make their money back on cosmetics. They just never reach that critical mass of players buying cosmetics, and thus their entire business model never comes together. This also means that the cool cosmetics never make back what it cost to produce them, thus they stop making them, thus no one has anything to buy if they wanted to. 3) A lot of money gets poured into Path of Champions as part of the general Arcane push. However, since you can't buy anything new as part of that push, it all goes into the same business model they started with: get a critical mass of people in the game buying cosmetics and battle passes. 4) Fast forward to Path of Champions 2.0, where their continued big push doesn't convert into that critical mass of paying consumers and Riot drops them like a rock because their business model has not cohered in any way. 5) The team is significantly smaller now that they've lost their PoC team and kind of panicking, so they do the only thing a small collection of card designers can do: refocus on PVP to keep the community together and maybe their business model will finally click despite having nothing to really buy. Which is bad for making money, but when your game's foundational economic principle is not doing the exploitative model everyone else uses it's hard to start. 6) We come to now. They've started monetizing Path of Champions directly, and are expanding both the mode and how they're monetizing it in the near future as they refocus back on single player. They are finally pivoting to a different business model that might actually work instead of clinging to one that isn't. Do I like that? ... Well, I'm a F2P player so I'm going to miss whatever they lock behind a paywall, but I want LoR to make enough money to offset the costs of having the lore team make all this art and setting detail instead of being a money pit. (Also the game's a lot of fun and I want it to continue to exist.)
It's a little bit surprising that the production value still seems to be way up there for Runeterra after everything that happened. In particular with VA and animation.
i'd really want to see your takes on the level up animations!! I know they tend to change a lot in "style", which is...unsurprising given all the behind the scenes stuff happening all the time with LoR, so your analysis and take on them would be super interesting!!

In yugioh at least we would call this a retrain. Like the original card still exists, but this is a new version made to be more suited to the game today.
I found it really intresting that Ezreal apears in her dreams, this kinda means despite not recognizeing him he still made an impresion on her, so it might be because she does not recognize him when he is not in disguise? (I know they kept the who are you joke but that might be because of va limitation?) Its also posibel its not just her dream but kinda an amalgamation of the pepole who think abaut her a lot?
this expansion/soft rework really feels like it comes from a place of genuine love for Lux's character and a willingness to explore her further. It's definitely getting me back into path of champions! :) (Though it does make me wonder when/if they'll ever do Sylas. He even showed up in a Morgana card... stoked to see what mechanic/gimmick they come up wit!)
I think the one thing that makes me laugh the most about ezreal is the fact that he is a 0/0 unit. Which when considering if you silence him he just outright dies. All you have to do is shut him up and he loses all his power 😂😂😂.
So maybe I'm fanboying a bit here, but something I've noted about this release is that both OG Lux and Vi share the problem that they don't fit their region's theme, and Vi is being rotated back into standard. It had me wondering if Vi could be getting the same treatment as Lux here, but what would her dream self be? Then it hit me, wouldn't it be a cool piece of characterization if, despite how wildly their paths diverged, Jinx and Vi had a shared dream about Powder and Violet?
Man, I stopped playing 2 months ago after the dreadful news. I am just so glad this game is still alive but I can't go through 5 stages of grief over my loved games again
I cant ell but think that this expansion being based on dream events is a cheap way to expand the content of the game without properly addressing the implications of One Runeterra in the game. They can't erase or integrate everything the game built but still have to release new content despite not having idea of how it will work with the new lore
It would be really cool if you did a reaction to the new content that came out of Hades 2 from the new technical test live stream. Of course if your interested in it. Your gameplay of Hades has always been my favorite.
Early Access is hopefully starting in the next month or so (in the stream the devs said in more than a week but less than a month, if everything goes okay). It might be more fun for TBSkyen, and watchers, to see first reactions during gameplay.

Regarding art style and execution, 6MoreVodka sort of "re-organise" (last I looked they had payment issues post Riot-merger). So, their version of art started to take a bavk seat (esp post KDA cross game event). Really sad stuff, but that's how the show goes I guess
The thing with LoR has always been, and Still is, Money. Time and Time again have we been told, since its inception, that LoR hasn't made money. It has ONLY lost Riot money. That said, Riot Knows how important LoR is to... well, ironically the Lore of their universe and it has been a beautiful avenue for their artists to essentially "Paint" the world of Runeterra in the most vivid and stylized version they could come up with. That, to this day, is the one reason that has allowed LoR to exist, nothing else. Struggling to figure out a business model for a product is difficult, specially when one of its core philosophies is "Be fair to the end user" (monetarily speaking.) LoR is TOO F2P, to the point that it is harmful to it as a Product. This is why the layoffs had to be from the LoR team, the team was too big for what it essentially was doing, sucking money off Riot's coffers. As a business justifying this is HARD, specially to investors. Which is why now, with a smaller team, they can focus back on Path of Champions because, with a small team, riot can legit say to investors "Oh, LoR is Just a PR stunt to get people hooked on the League Ecosystem and get them to play our other games to make money that way, that's why it loses money, we're investing in PR." The shifts over time in focus for the game where essentially them trying to figure out how to make LoR a "Product" that is financially viable, and the reality was, and still is to this day, they couldn't. So now that it is no longer being treated as a "Product" but instead as a "Glorified PV" Riot can actually afford to keep it around, because they are aware of how much... life it has brought unto Runeterra's world.
What are you talking about? Garen no longer has to make any hard choices because Demacia was automagically fixed by Sylas in the mageseeker game. There is no civil war or internal strife now, and it's all sunshine and rainbows without outside intervention. That dream version isn't some impossible dream on the far side of a brutal civil war with numerous major characters with conflicting needs or conflicting desires, it's just a few years of training, growing, and integrating mages into existing organizations away. She can be the first mage of the royal guard in 3 years easy. Because Sylas fixed everything in his game. No more discrimination, just have to deal with problems like a fear demon and Noxus.

As much as I enjoyed Legends of Runeterra, I had to stop playing after they added Morgana; control decks aren't fun to play against. It's the same reason I left Magic: The Gathering as well.
I've tried so many times to like Legends of Runeterra and Path of Champions, but the balancing and general game play I don't find fun (and it's not deckbuilding roguelite/roguelike that's the problem as I love Slay the Spire, Across the Obelisk, and many deckbuilding board games) my problem is that the base game was not designed with roguelike in mind and they just kinda slapped together something with their current designs to make it a roguelite like all the times the enemies just throw unblockable nexus damage at you and you counter that by having to get healing in some way and then the way things are impossible if you don't have enough stars or good enough items on your cards through lvls (which is I guess me just not liking the games that lean hard into roguelite elements vs trying to keep the games as close as they can to roguelikes)
Ezreal x Lux had in game canon back when League of Legends itself was essentially a fighting tournament. It was a sort of joke from Blitzcrank’s love compatibility service but there was an official sketch portrait of the two drawn as an eater egg. Since the revamp of the Runeterra lore, it’s no longer canon. I believe both Battle Academia and Star Guardian have the romance relationship between the two. The latter especially since they wrote them to sort of have a Sailor Moon x Tuxedo Mask like relationship.
Given the other cards and what is on them. Its potentially NOT nocturne but instaid vex. As there is some bandle city cards that add an effect called gloom
Usually right after the video release some runeterra websites already have full artworks available of the new cards, might be something to check so you don't need to squint only at the youtube video.

3) A lot of money gets poured into Path of Champions as part of the general Arcane push. However, since you can't buy anything new as part of that push, it all goes into the same business model they started with: get a critical mass of people in the game buying cosmetics and battle passes.
4) Fast forward to Path of Champions 2.0, where their continued big push doesn't convert into that critical mass of paying consumers and Riot drops them like a rock because their business model has not cohered in any way.
5) The team is significantly smaller now that they've lost their PoC team and kind of panicking, so they do the only thing a small collection of card designers can do: refocus on PVP to keep the community together and maybe their business model will finally click despite having nothing to really buy. Which is bad for making money, but when your game's foundational economic principle is not doing the exploitative model everyone else uses it's hard to start.
6) We come to now. They've started monetizing Path of Champions directly, and are expanding both the mode and how they're monetizing it in the near future as they refocus back on single player. They are finally pivoting to a different business model that might actually work instead of clinging to one that isn't. Do I like that? ... Well, I'm a F2P player so I'm going to miss whatever they lock behind a paywall, but I want LoR to make enough money to offset the costs of having the lore team make all this art and setting detail instead of being a money pit. (Also the game's a lot of fun and I want it to continue to exist.)

In yugioh at least we would call this a retrain. Like the original card still exists, but this is a new version made to be more suited to the game today.
I found it really intresting that Ezreal apears in her dreams, this kinda means despite not recognizeing him he still made an impresion on her, so it might be because she does not recognize him when he is not in disguise? (I know they kept the who are you joke but that might be because of va limitation?) Its also posibel its not just her dream but kinda an amalgamation of the pepole who think abaut her a lot?
Question is, what could they do with Nocturne that Fiddlesticks doesn't already own?

this expansion/soft rework really feels like it comes from a place of genuine love for Lux's character and a willingness to explore her further.

I think the one thing that makes me laugh the most about ezreal is the fact that he is a 0/0 unit. Which when considering if you silence him he just outright dies. All you have to do is shut him up and he loses all his power 😂😂😂.

So maybe I'm fanboying a bit here, but something I've noted about this release is that both OG Lux and Vi share the problem that they don't fit their region's theme, and Vi is being rotated back into standard. It had me wondering if Vi could be getting the same treatment as Lux here, but what would her dream self be? Then it hit me, wouldn't it be a cool piece of characterization if, despite how wildly their paths diverged, Jinx and Vi had a shared dream about Powder and Violet?

I cant ell but think that this expansion being based on dream events is a cheap way to expand the content of the game without properly addressing the implications of One Runeterra in the game. They can't erase or integrate everything the game built but still have to release new content despite not having idea of how it will work with the new lore
It would be really cool if you did a reaction to the new content that came out of Hades 2 from the new technical test live stream. Of course if your interested in it. Your gameplay of Hades has always been my favorite.
Early Access is hopefully starting in the next month or so (in the stream the devs said in more than a week but less than a month, if everything goes okay). It might be more fun for TBSkyen, and watchers, to see first reactions during gameplay.

Regarding art style and execution, 6MoreVodka sort of "re-organise" (last I looked they had payment issues post Riot-merger). So, their version of art started to take a bavk seat (esp post KDA cross game event).

The thing with LoR has always been, and Still is, Money. Time and Time again have we been told, since its inception, that LoR hasn't made money. It has ONLY lost Riot money. That said, Riot Knows how important LoR is to... well, ironically the Lore of their universe and it has been a beautiful avenue for their artists to essentially "Paint" the world of Runeterra in the most vivid and stylized version they could come up with. That, to this day, is the one reason that has allowed LoR to exist, nothing else.
Struggling to figure out a business model for a product is difficult, specially when one of its core philosophies is "Be fair to the end user" (monetarily speaking.) LoR is TOO F2P, to the point that it is harmful to it as a Product. This is why the layoffs had to be from the LoR team, the team was too big for what it essentially was doing, sucking money off Riot's coffers. As a business justifying this is HARD, specially to investors. Which is why now, with a smaller team, they can focus back on Path of Champions because, with a small team, riot can legit say to investors "Oh, LoR is Just a PR stunt to get people hooked on the League Ecosystem and get them to play our other games to make money that way, that's why it loses money, we're investing in PR."
The shifts over time in focus for the game where essentially them trying to figure out how to make LoR a "Product" that is financially viable, and the reality was, and still is to this day, they couldn't. So now that it is no longer being treated as a "Product" but instead as a "Glorified PV" Riot can actually afford to keep it around, because they are aware of how much... life it has brought unto Runeterra's world.
This is not a rework. It's an alt version of Lux in LoR.

What are you talking about? Garen no longer has to make any hard choices because Demacia was automagically fixed by Sylas in the mageseeker game. There is no civil war or internal strife now, and it's all sunshine and rainbows without outside intervention. That dream version isn't some impossible dream on the far side of a brutal civil war with numerous major characters with conflicting needs or conflicting desires, it's just a few years of training, growing, and integrating mages into existing organizations away. She can be the first mage of the royal guard in 3 years easy. Because Sylas fixed everything in his game. No more discrimination, just have to deal with problems like a fear demon and Noxus.

question: what your opinion about level up animations? I mean, are cool and all, but they are just a quick movie short now, not the card itself leveling up as older did (katarinas, darius, jinx etc) i deeply dislike the "movie" ones
As much as I enjoyed Legends of Runeterra, I had to stop playing after they added Morgana; control decks aren't fun to play against. It's the same reason I left Magic: The Gathering as well.

I've tried so many times to like Legends of Runeterra and Path of Champions, but the balancing and general game play I don't find fun
(and it's not deckbuilding roguelite/roguelike that's the problem as I love Slay the Spire, Across the Obelisk, and many deckbuilding board games)
my problem is that the base game was not designed with roguelike in mind and they just kinda slapped together something with their current designs to make it a roguelite
like all the times the enemies just throw unblockable nexus damage at you and you counter that by having to get healing in some way
and then the way things are impossible if you don't have enough stars or good enough items on your cards through lvls (which is I guess me just not liking the games that lean hard into roguelite elements vs trying to keep the games as close as they can to roguelikes)
Ezreal x Lux had in game canon back when League of Legends itself was essentially a fighting tournament. It was a sort of joke from Blitzcrank’s love compatibility service but there was an official sketch portrait of the two drawn as an eater egg. Since the revamp of the Runeterra lore, it’s no longer canon.
I believe both Battle Academia and Star Guardian have the romance relationship between the two. The latter especially since they wrote them to sort of have a Sailor Moon x Tuxedo Mask like relationship.

Usually right after the video release some runeterra websites already have full artworks available of the new cards, might be something to check so you don't need to squint only at the youtube video.
