      I don’t think suge was financially incompetent he never had money problems until he started actually going to prison. Suge biggest downfall was his own arrogance. He didn’t show up to that court date for that lawsuit with harry o wife and lost the label and had to fork over millions of dollars. He was accustomed to a lifestyle he couldn’t afford anymore which sent him on a downward spiral🤷🏾‍♂️I personally believe he had the money and resources to beat his most recent case but took the time to avoid other charges unrelated to the case that would’ve gotten him his 3rd strike with a life sentence.

    People need to understand that Kurupt and artistes like Kurupt who come from the gutter, who come from the hood are just happy to be up out of there. Like he said in another interview "We was in the streets, now we in the suites". Touring, travelling, hella groupies, best champagne, finest food, five star hotels, nicest cars...those are the things hustlers, drug dealers wish for and he's getring it all by just writing music and spitting bars. No cooking crack, no cutting rocks and putting them in bags to sell, no police beating you up and dropping you in enemy hoods. None of that stuff. They was living the life, at that age they couldn't give a shit about how much they were getring paid or if their contracts were benefitting them none of that.

    The fact most of these artists did not listen nor care to be schooled. A condo or a house bought back in the 90s anywhere decent in LA would be worth millions today. The monies used for the down payment, and the monthly monies received could have been used to pay the mortgage and maintenance, but keep in mind { it's an advance on future royalties }. And of course you have to keep up an image so they giving you luxury stuff. So, when it's time to recoup on that the record label will tax your album sales. I understand his point about recording artists buying their own but I do not agree with that is the way the music business goes when it comes to recording artists writing & producing an album that sell millions of records & they end up with a small payout. That part of the music industry has always been incomprehensible.

    • @RapFatos
      @RapFatos Рік тому +3

      Actually, it is just a simple business. The words are complicated. Let's use Death Row as an example for majority of these record deals and distribution. Interscope distributed DR, they cut was 50%, every arstist sign with DR would get 10 to 12% of DR earnings which is just half. So if a tape after the costs of manufacturing gave a profit of 10 dollars, 5 goes to interscope, 5 to DR and the artists at a 10% rate get 50 cents. He sold 1 million copies, that's 500 thousand to him. They probably spend that just in marketing. Add everything else, like samples, recording costs and etc. the artist doesn't get much at the end because he pays for everything, which is called "recouping." It is legal, though. And its fair, you gotta make them money, they invested in you, then you renegociate down the line. Artists complain a lot cause they don't understand. First, it's all fun. Then they make millions and get greedy, thinking they should keep 90% of it. It is a business!

    • @shaunla.1098
      @shaunla.1098 Рік тому +8

      @@RapFatosyou left some key things out: key things like the singer Prince was fighting for when he wrote Slave on his face.
      I understand recoupment & I do understand that the record company put up the investment money wise & there is a chance that they won't recoup but at the same time, they own the Masters forever or until they decide to sell the Masters, which kind of put them in the position to always have Rights to music, 100% rights.
      I have a friend whose dad used to play with one of the biggest selling & most influential recording artists ever (I won't name them) & luckily when her dad (who played an instrument) cut his own studio album, he learned enough from this mainstream musician whereas, his family still get money from off of that album today & we are talking 20th Century music.
      As Prince stated, it is unconscionable that a record company or label own the Masters 100%.
      Yes, there are 100 points on an album, mathematically it is possible that everyone who worked on an album to make future royalties.
