"It was a hit & hope and he forgot to hit it!"
This cracked me up
Rofl
I read this comment about 2 seconds after i heard it and i was still laughing and it made me laugh even more
4:53 - That shot from Ricky Walden could be the best shot in the compilation. Unbelievably precise.
Didnt seem like much at first but then
J
That’s a nasty snooker 🤣
Z😂
9:53 is so satisfying to hear hahaha
its incredibly unsatisfying to those who play snooker
9:51 it was a hit and hope and he forgot to hit it 😂😂😂
The Ding - King one was good. Two good blokes making everyone smile.
‘Hit and hope and he forgot to hit it’. I love it!!! John Virgo you are a genius!!!
I liked that he was pissing himself right up to the fluke. I love hearing muffled laughter from the commentary box. There was a famous one where Denis Taylor fell of his chair.
That’s awesome what a fluke as well
Actually one of the most amazing things in this video is that you can see that Ding can smile....
But nice video with strange situations!
fantastic compilation
Never thought I'd hear John Virgo laugh so uncontrollably than after the 9:51 shot
The Ding King matchup is one for the ages.
Only topped by a Fu King snooker match.
@@seanscanlon9067😂😂😂
That Snooker at 5.10, exceptional
I love snooker but this is mega impressive.
Even refree is smiling at 00:54
And what a beautiful smile it is
terry griffiths laughing lol
I almost vommited with laughter when i heard "It was a hit and hope but he forgot to hit it"😂😂😂
Really enjoyed this, great video 👍🏽
Fast Workers thank you! This video compilation was amazing
7:38 THE Player gets 3 shots to touch a red? I'm unfamiliar with what is happening in this game at that point.
@@shack8110 each time he fouls his opponent is awarded 4 points. It's up to the ref if it's a 'miss' (ie, player could do better based on ability or intentionally played for damage limitation by leaving the cueball safe). On his third attempt ref decided his shot was a fair attempt and didn't call a 'miss'.
john virgo and willie thorne best 2 in box, selby looking up at em weres the white lines, dennis is also class:)
@richard cunningham i think there was a rules change between those two games if i'm not mistaken
Lovely round of applause for ref Paul collier

12:09 when there are 6 balls you can hit, but you are surrounded by the reds
Great compilation this is!! O’Sullivan and trump exchange was good too. They’re Ll good, the fluke by Parrot after the miscue! What a game
Virgo creasing at his good mate miscuing always gets me.
Mark King is one of my favourite players. The Essex boys can play snooker.
I think king is a good player because he makes me laugh a little bit ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

10:47 compared to 10:51 is a massive difference. How did they not put that right when he had missed a shot previous?! In terms of snooker, thats a barn door worth of room the cue ball has been moved to from its original position.
14:55 great sportsman
What exactly happened there?
Bojan Lukic I’m not sure but if I had to guess I’d say it has something to do with calling the colour he’s trying to hit? He clearly has no chance of hitting any of them but I’ve no idea what the rules are for fouls in a situation like that and if there was a chance of the foul costing him 7 points instead of 4.
@@bojanlukic2366 It's an extremely unusual situation where he's pocketed a red, then gone into the cluster and had the balls converge in such a way that it's geometrically impossible for him to make a legal shot. The ref (who doesn't speak English) explains to Fu that Jones can basically make any shot he wants and it will be called a foul, but not a miss - since there's no way to hit a colour from that position. Fu then explains this to Jones who goes on to make a push-out shot.
@@dailynotinteresting4325 well yes but not exactly. According to the rules in such a situation where none of the cushions can be hit making it an "impossible" shot, you have to make a shot towards the next legal and possible ball which is in this case the green because the yellow is snookered by the pink ball. That's why Jones aimed on the green ball and made a dummy shot towards it. The referee pointed this out and made it clear. Very professional call from the ref he is aware of the least used rules.
@@kavasr Good info, thanks. Definitely an obscurity.
So snooker is about two people giving each other hard time?...
Pretty much.
It's first and foremost about potting balls and scoring points. This is very much the safety side of play. The table is so huge that if you're not 100% sure you can pot it it's safer to give the other guy a hard time. Because if you miss and leave it on, the guys are so good they will just clear every ball on the table. Yeah if you don't know snooker this is a toughie for your first video. I hope you get into snooker and return to this video one day you'll appreciate it more :)
Sounds like marriage
A snooker, by definition, is a safety shot. Everything about this game was designed to make a player’s life a living hell

From 🇹🇭
I love Paul Caulley, the ref. He made the *right* call at 7:45 & again at 26:45. This is the best. I would love to see a compilation of "fouls" without the "miss". They are so incredibly difficult.
I don't see the value of not calling the "miss". I would prefer that the "miss" would be automatic for every foul. I only see disadvantages of the no-miss fouls: it introduces an arbitrary decision into the game, making the referee an active participant of the frame (there is no precise rule); and it penalizes the snooker-maker for setting up an exceptionally hard snooker! it should be rewarded, not penalized.
@@tomekczajka So in the event that a player who tries so many times to get out of a hard snooker, you would insist the ref calls a "miss" every time even if the cue ball misses a ball by 1mm? That could mean that a player can loose a frame by lots of "misses" which is unfair...god I would hate to have you as a referee!!!
@@steviemacmuttley No you misunderstood. I don't think it should be up to the referee to make the call at all. I think it would be better for the game if the rules were changed that way, but I don't think referees should just individually decide to do that with the rules as they are today.
@@steviemacmuttleyyeah its called snooker for a reason
snooker yes but the "miss" rule is very harsh when players do try to hit a ball but at times cannot find the angle - why not have a max number of times a "miss" can be called - that way the player who made the snooker cannot automatically win a frame simply by being awarded lots and lots of "misses"...but there again you would welcome that!!@@LilJulezz
08:00 i would love to see the reaction of selby if the ref would call it a miss :D
Great
awesome snooker just awesome
No surprise then that Ronnie Sullivan wins so many matches.
20:30 surprised he didn’t call it a miss. I thought Dunn could have played off two cushions around the black
Perhaps you could try that shot yourself since you seem to know more than the referee and the players?
@@steviemacmuttley I bet you’re fun at parties. Miserable prick
@@steviemacmuttley Many other players and pundits called it the hardest snooker to escape. But I was also a bit surprised that ref didn't call a miss on that one because it didn't seem so hard to escape. The one from Murphy vs Ding was waaaay harder or the one that Holt had. Mike had plenty of space between the cushion and brown for cue ball. However I'm not 100% sure so I'll probably try this one on my snooker table tomorrow.
I grew up around a pool table so I'm good at it when I'm well practiced. Not Master level but pretty good. I'm good at most pub/ bar games. But Snooker I haven't looked into much before and im already 43! I watched the snooker rules video. I'm watching a few of these competitions. I'm really enjoying it! Snooker is the next logical step from regular pool. Even that much more precision oriented. More gentle. Of course just a massive table. I want to go out and try my luck at it!
Always have a massé in your back pocket for some of these
I've set my alarm clock
That thumbnail or Murphy is epic 😆
That Snooker at 20:40 is so finger-lickin-good that Murphy actually licked his fingers 🤌

28:12 "how funny would it be if i put him right back in the same spot"
if you get trapped in the reds after potting, it can't be called a miss (e.g retake the shot) so the two occasions it happened were not that big of a deal - on the second occasion the player did not nominate a colour to hit which is the only reason it was re-taken, so that was on the player.
4:56 It was at this point that Mark Selby realised he was in the 💩
Fu was generous, that was his frame on the self snooker, the referee should have given the frame to Fu
That self imposed snooker was unfortunate, but the rule is clear. If you cannot play a legal shot, You play towards your nominated ball with sufficient force that you would hit it if the snookering ball/s were not there. A foul is given, but it is not a miss. It’s surprising how many players, even pros don’t know the rule book
Wowwwwww!!!😍😍😍
In a sense red IS the 1st color!
I pulled a face when the Walnut fluked behind that brown, I still had that face on when it cut to him then Selby, all 3 of us had the same face haha funny moment
1:45 ! )
@25:00 he is a broken man 😂😂
I mean, he had been goin at the same shot for 5 minutes near enough
9:33 - He flookered his opponent!
wtf did i just watch? its amazing tho
10:56 "What a neffort!"
unpopular opinion. impossible snookers should be considered game winning shots. No path to direct ball, forfeit the round
When you have zero chance of hitting a colour, call yellow, green, or brown.
I've played 4 Frames with shorne merphey wot a sereusley nice guy we got on well together
In the Selby snooker at 8:00, why didn't the referee call a miss, and why was that praised? I'm not terribly familiar with the finer details of the game.
Bump
Because the player did the best he could to hit the red. With the first two tries he was going for the best possible outcome for himself (trying to touch one of the reds with minimum force), so the referee called a miss, but with the third attempt Selby hit the white hard enough for the referee to assume that it was an honest try to just hit the red without any further calculations.
No idea what snooker is but this was impressive anyway
Red, colour, red, colour (total x15) then yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and finally black
11:23 Judd please bring that hair back!!
@12:08 What is the official rule on that? If it is impossible to hit a colour? Does the ref just use discretion and not call a miss?
dageezerboi If it is impossible and both players agree there isn’t a legal shot that can be played, then the player snookered can play a deliberate foul and the ref will not call a miss.
I got him into a similar when he played me but he got out of it first time
was that the correct implementation of the rules with that shot in the marco fu games with the white stuck in the reds. i would have thought that is a case for a re-rack because it's impossible to make a legal shot.
The thing to remember that in a self snooker it was your poor positional shot that put the white there, different if it was a fluky snooker then the ref can use discretion but if you're poor shot put it there then no mercy either forfeit or watch the points pile up and after a while come to an arrangement with the other player
Last shot Murphy played red by the green... free ball surely, no way he could hit both sided of the red ?
Wow 3 years after I last commented on the video haha
It’s that good 👍🏻
12:00 was awkward, I had to chuckle.
32:50 isn't that a free ball? Ding did foul and after that, murphy was snookered (cause if only a side of the ball is blocked, it's considered a snooker)
I think he can see both sides of the red below the brown?
Looks like a free ball to me!
It seems there was enough space for cue ball to edge that red.
What does 'same shot only slightly different' mean?
that shot at 12 minute 50... how to trap oneself.
How did they put the balls back to their original configuration after a miss before TV cameras?
Murphy gave the frame to ding?
At 32:28 did the ref say it WAS a free ball? Murphy seemed to play it like it wasn't. I think it should have definitely have been a free ball.
He said: It isn´t a freeball!
@@UnimatrixOne But Ding fouled when trying to pot the red. And now Murphy can't see both sides of the red. Surely that should be a free ball.
@@GirGir183 If Murphy placed the ball just inside baulk, 1/2 a mm away from the red, he'd be able to hit both sides.
10:10 The ref looked quite irritated... and afterward as well 10:26
cant rember which match which event both them at somebody missed a ball started hassling each other about balls they missed rember that blue etc etc lol more enjoyable than watching game talking about lol,but so good together
The end of this video was clearly trying to stretch out the length of the video because after Murphy'd 2nd successful shot watch the rest of the frame - another 7 minutes - without any further shots of particular interest. Kinda ruined what had been an enjoyable video...

Hello everyone. Can someone please explain to me why that isn't a 'miss' 7:49 ? What purpose does it serve with the umpire giving the "benefit of the doubt" ?
"According to the rules, a Miss is in play when the cue-ball fails to first contact a ball on and the referee considers that the striker has not made a good enough attempt to hit a ball on based on his ability to play the game." - In this case, the referee judged that Selby although miss hitting the ball, he already made a goog enough attempt.
WHITE PEPPER, MURPHY WAS CREAKING AGAINST DING, THE TABLE THAT IS
7:54 I get what the ref did and why but a miss is a miss
11:22 What's that hair from Judd trump
12:10. Now I understand why they don’t go into the cluster to hard. That is so impossible to get out of
What were they discussing about?
why didn't Ding said to judge, to return balls, after opponents miss, I don't understand and someone, please explain
Hard to hear him but I believe the referee said it was not a foul.
9:00 - Салливан никогда не упустит возможности рискнуть, а это просто ссыкун.

Should Murphy have not got a Free Ball after the foul at 32.15 - with the green so close to the last red I doubt he could see both sides off it....?
We played snooker much different in the USA as a kid of the 1960s. Of course we didn't know the right rules.
*ding dong*
What happens now? Not good when a player asks that.
*_Охренеть не встать..._*
What’s happening between 12:25 - 14:45? Did they convince Marco Fu to only take 4 points for a foul (without any re-attempts) because the referee wouldn’t be able to re-spot all the balls?
G T he potted the red so he had to hit a color next What I think happened is there was no way to get out of all those reds and hit a color every path was blocked
Joseph Valenti found the answer. ua-cam.com/video/P1JB3inHIM0/v-deo.html
rules state if you are on a colour but all paths blocked by reds then you have to nominate a colour, aim directly at that colour knowing you will hit a red. in this circumstance ref can't call a miss. must say it's only the second time I've seen it happen.
he can’t even do that easily without a push shot.
@@damonzeid8189 It's a weird rule
What is name to that game style ?
Snooker?
@@karoI508 Thanks bro
The one with Bingham could not be a miss as it was impossible to not faul. In that case, no miss should ever be allowed. The ref made a poor judgement call there. He should have first consulted with both players on what would be satisfactory to Bingham. The miss rule was imposed to prevent players to intentionally miss and get an advantage out of it. This could not be the case, because the only option was to foul the shot. No matter what he did, it would be a foul. So it can't be a miss.
The ref in the Fu case made the correct judgement. He knew he couldn't call a miss. He consulted Fu on what would be satisfactory to him.
There is an example as well where O'Sullivan was once in an impossible snooker, because there was no way he could hit the ball because the angles weren't there as in the example here with Sean Murphy. Luckily for Murphy here was that in his second attempt a miss couldn't be called, as he needed snookers.
O'Sullivan did the correct thing and protested by intentionally missing the ball and he kept doing it until he needed snookers.
The ref was too stuck up to admit that a miss could not be called as Ronnie tried his best the first attempts. Ronnie knew that it was impossible. Laws of physics.
Is it also possible to wait for the first try of the player? When it seems like he's not doing his best give the miss and when it seems like he's trying his best don't give the miss? Not so familliar with this hard cases :D
@@niklasmuller3242 I'd say that the referee could call miss up to four times before no longer calling it. That would at least allow players to try some variations. Not that I'm sure about the rules, but it would make most sense from a game point of view.

How come Murphy and dings game carried on? Had 43 points worth on the table yet it's still not enough to win or tie up points
35 points behind. 43 points on the table. So he continued on. Even at 28:52, there's only 2 points too few on the table to force a respotted black. One snooker. When the pink went in and only one red ball left on table, Murphy now needs 19 points in snookers. But it's the first to 5 frames and it currently 4-4, so he gives it everything.
@@GirGir183 he has 26 points opponent has 73, that's a 47 point lead, 43 left on the table that's not enough points to make up
@@themaddog198That's just one snooker needed. At 4 frames all it's worth keeping the game alive.
