- I'm so glad I was home when this happened as this unit sits next to my gas line! Pardon my improvisation during this crisis, it's not intended to brand bash and have been pleasantly surprised with Soleus's customer service so far ...
I'd promised their customer service representative who encouraged me to post this video that I'd create a follow up a month later to share how they handled the situation. Sadly, its been over a month of waiting - • Video - Наука та технологія
It's actually impossible to avoid this brand. If you look at any portable air conditioner for sale on Amazon, you have 20 or so brands to choose from, but I kid you not, they are *_all_* manufactured by the same company in China using the same components. Some companies come along later and put their own branding and stylized touch on the outside of them, but they're all the same. _Soleus Air is among the companies that do this._
Our home in Maryland was destroyed by a fire in May 2014. After an investigation, it was determined that the fire was caused by a Gree dehumidifier. The parent company, Soleus, MJC America, Ltd., declared bankruptcy in 12/2013.
Made in China junk. You should have gotten a vintage one.
Tell morons to quit throwing them away. I find them in the trash off and on, and all they need is a freon recharge or the bearings greased and they work like new. Sadly I cannot get anyone to buy them, people think its antique obsolete junk and they'd rather buy new plastic crap like this. There is a reason why appliances had solid steel frames - if they ever failed - they could not burn.
@@VannBergHVAC people don’t usually just buy a vintage one, usually their first instinct is that modern is better.
If anyone was wondering that bang at the end was the Freon leaking out. The pipe burst from heat.
Yes, that is my opinion. But it is the only thing that it could of been.
It was. Hurting the ozone because this idiot didnt put the fire out.
Are you honestly that mindless and brainwashed by the government? The ozone layer was not affected by this at all. Go take a college course on science and how the environment works. You could break open 100 freon tanks and let them bleed out for 2 days and it wouldn't do anything. Also this video aired on the news nationwide and helped people be aware of the failure of Gree dehumidifiers and caused an internal investigation to be opened up. This video stopped thousands of house fires.
@@VannBergHVAC Actually CFC's are banned since 2010. These units were made from 2011 and beyond. After 2010 HFC 410A was used.
Thank you for posting this. I had a SoleusAir Air conditioner that died in a horrible smelling puff of smoke after just 1.5 years of service. I will never buy that brand again. I still have the unit in storage if anybody wants to take it apart to see what happened. I had intended to do that myself but just haven't had the time.
Imagine seeing an old unit doing this, it wouldn't. Even if there was a fire inside, the metal casing would greatly help contain it. That's why old things are the way to go.
Vintage things are made to last! Modern appliances suck'
There is a vintage dehumidifier probably from the mid 80's or 90's that one of the previous owners of the house I'm in left behind, but what I heard it does not work anymore and just sits in the basement.
Likely needs a freon recharge or the motor bearings re-greased. Very simple fixes that morons are too lazy to do. They'd rather have a plastic one that burns their house down.
I heart vintage fan s because their strong
My wife and I have a SoleusAir SG-DEH-70-1. It's been throwing off a lot of heat in our basement and giving off electrical odors. We shut it off. I restarted it a few days later, heat and odor again, shut it off again. Searched online and found this video, other documents pulling this unit off the shelves. No recall for our unit as of yet! Glad our house didn't burn down.
Checked mine when it started to work intermitrantly, the compressor inside was hotterthan hell. Way past the point where the protector should have cut it out. Seems to be a loss of coolant plus a bad thermoprotector that causes the problem. Will do an autopsy/failure analysis video once the recall is finalized. Apperently they want the tags and the cord returned.
I had the 30 pint version of this running in my basement for the last 3 months (bought it a few years ago) and it just quit on me. I was looking up possible repair guides when I came across the notice to retailers not to sell it anymore. Needless to say, I'm not fixing it. Good thing too, as it was sitting under a major wood structural beam in my basement the entire time.
Also, BRILLIANT idea to stand next to it while it's on fire considering it has a pressurized refrigerant system that's soldered together at the joints...
I just saw this video. Mine quit several years ago and I was going to try fixing it. I’m glad I saw this heard about the recall. Now I’m getting a Mastercard refund from Gree
DehumidiFIRE
SoleusAir didn't manufacture this unit, it's a rebadged Haier, same with their air conditioners, this is why you buy name brand whenever you can
Even name brand like GE is affected by this recall. They are all made by the same companies just charge the design but internals are the same.
This is a older gree made one
A fire place,a dehumidifier and a bomb all in one
Why did you cut it right before it exploded???
My Whirlpool caught fire after 12 years of seasonal usage. The company was only willing to give me a $50.00 dollar refund and I refused. I wanted (at minimum) a replacement and they said FY! So I said FY back. Not only that, they expected me to send it to corporate, and again I told them FY.!
They also wanted me to sign a wavier releasing any liability and again I said FY. Case closed. All I wanted was a replacement. I do not want to sue anyone. Now I have an old vintage unit.
It is just now we realized this was recalled and it stopped working and got hot but I unplugged it before it started a house fire
Had a similar problem with the exact same model, but it didn't catch fire. I could smell something hot in my basement. Found out it was the dehumidifier. The top of the unit was hot to the touch. Was there ever a response for why the dehumidifier started on fire?
the blow up might of been the freon leaking out if its one like that or the compressor just blew up
They just recalled these yesterday! Gree
I had this model and did not know about the recall, but as I purchased from home depot, they accepted it as a return, and mine was well over a year old
DEHUMIDIFYER / HEATER ALL IN ONE
Yikes, I hope the compressor oil blowing out at the very end didn't get ya.
I use a dehumidifier that's 30 or so yrs old, but only use it when I am around. So far zero problems = works well. It was in a closet, unused for many years. Now I'm fighting mold
@mixedbouquet1, I suggest you buy a vintage dehumidifier that 20 yeard or older. You can find them at local thrift stores and on Ebay and Craigslist
I didn't receive a notice either, mine was acting weird, I was told it needed a new filter, when I inquired at home depot as to why there was no filters for this device, the service lady researched and found the recall, though reason was not listed. They accepted a return for it, and I was given a full refund even though it was something like 16 months old.
I got lucky I went into my basement this morning to get my work clothes and it smelled like melting plastic I only bought this POS 3 years ago!!!
This unit likely has propane as refrigerant and that is the reason for the explosion at the end. Many modern refrigeration appliances use flammable refrigerant as it’s “safer” for the environment
This unit actually uses HFC410A refrigerant. Non-flammable.
Gree and Danby (they are the same) got recalls for this problem. Please Take a look on google for "danby dehumidifiers recall" mine is a FELLINI like the one on this video and it been recalled! so ...
Is Frigidaire safe? I did see some on the recall list but, my model number wasn't there.
I actually pissed my pants when That Goddamn Explosion just popped out
I'm having trouble with mine all really! there is no more cool air! it turned into a heater!! :(
So it's a dehumidifier and a heater in one, nice.
I have the same model! Just got the recall notice for it! A fire like that would have burned my house down!
Wish I would have known this sooner. Ours caught on fire in the middle of the night tonight in our downstairs family room outside the bedrooms of my two children.
poppakix it was this brand ?
your supposed to put the fire out A.S.A.P. not make a video and let it burn so that it can just blow up @ the end of the video.
Why?
Thomas Perez But then, you are supposed to know the distinction between “your” and “you’re”.
Dehumidifire
I saw one of these for sale on Craigs List. It is a Soleus 70 pint in Monrovia, 301-606-1768. Model number is GL DEH 70-2. Is this one of these that catch fire and have been recalled?
My two friends house burned down today... They believe it could be due to a dehumidifier.
This is why I don't mess around with modern POS appliances. Vintage appliances are the way to go!
Thanks for posting this video man.. Planning to get this piece of shit in frys... I stay with my LG hehehe
Those model dehumidifiers were recalled because of that. Buy a vintage dehumidifier from now on
Totally what are you there
Has anyone actually RECEIVED a refund after sending them the dehumidifier??
Yanna Vlachakis yes took a while but got a full refund after sending them the severed plug. Very scary......
Document everything when sending in a refund take pictures, scan or copy labels video record every step thats what im going to do when i get my refund kit.If i dont get a refund we will be going to court to make a stand,im tired of having to pay for a 2yr warranty on something i just bought, give me a 5yr warranty for the same price that would make sense for me.
I would just buy the ones you see in the Dollar Store. They work pretty fast!
Kawuss mbledoshh mangkanya jgn main main sama GREE kon ta bledoshhkee sisann!
This is exactly why i don't trust modern appliances.
shit, i think my uncle uses one of these at his camp (only there on the weekends)
Wow thank you was going to buy one (-;
Now I'm REALLY AFRAID TO BE USING THAT IN MY BATHROOM WTF. I'M CALLING THEM IN THE MORNING. WHOLLY SHIT. I OWN 2 OF THEM. NOT THE EXACT ONE IN THE BASEMENT BUT EXACT ONE UPSTAIRS. TURNING IT OFF NOW. I'M SO GLAD I SAW YOUR VIDEO. THANK THE LORD. AGAIN🙏🛐watching my ass. Love U.😘
Contact Gree for a refund. Search Gree dehumidifier recall. Enter your model number on the website and if it is affected they will send you instructions for a refund.
The explosion at the end?
the pressure in the refrigerant lines caused them to burst.
Probably some sort of flammable refrigerant like r600a
its definitely drying the air
On the news they said the reason why the fire happens is because the unit is made in China. I'm so lucky that I have a Mitsubishi dehumidifier and it is made in Japan!!!
AP499D25 If it was made in Japan, it may be radioactive.
Mike Paradise None of my units are made after the disaster happened
Happened to ours too
Explosion near the end!
It probably happened when the electrical fire made contact with where the filtered water is stored at.
Lol its common sense that was going to happen
hope no one got hurt tho
Let there be fire!
these new plastic things are shit. i recommend picking up a used one from the 70s or 80s they are metal, last for ever, and will not do that.
dammit i just got one of these
Its going to destroy your home? 😱Omg 🔥 fire , let me get my camara 🎥...
Maybe, the worst dehumidifier ever made
These are the worst dehumidifiers In history, for real. The only dehumidifiers now that are DECENT at best, are Frigidaires. Better than that, a vintage dehumidifier.
Piece of shit dehumidifier! Get a mechanical controlled one that isn’t recalled or a vintage one!!!!!!!!!!!!
