Bobby Womack was a backstabber who married his friend's widow and then tried to sleep with the daughter. Mary Wells was married to a Womack brother and then after their divorce, she married another Womack brother. Man, trifling brothers.

Womack was also a 18 year old kid who fell victim to an older woman's lusts, and volunerable conflicts of interests were perhaps alledegely not only that Sam Cooke had three, or more outside children's, out of wedlock, but died at a hotel and related to alledged prostitute,, but his wife who were perhaps scorned enough to have allowed a younger man to do what younger men dreams of doing with older woman...

Leon Russell said Sam Cooke was his hands down favorite singer to play for in recording sessions and felt there was no one better. Leon played for hundreds and hundreds of people including Frank Sinatra and said no one came close to Sam Cooke when it came to class and vocals.

He hung out with Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali and was in the process of creating his own record label all of those factors created a target on his back. He knew he was going to die. RIP.
His death to this day is very shady. And I think we will all be surprised as to who might have been involved.
I believe they said the hotel manager did it because he was with some women and got a room and when he went to take a shower she took his clothes and ran out.
I think Bobby Womack was jealous of Sam Cooke. He was more handsome and had better songs. I would never mess with a friends woman no matter how attracted I was to her!

Listen. I never knew about this story until about 3 months ago. I ran into some old guy who was buying a piece of furniture for his studio in Atlanta. He said he had played with Sam Cook and Bobby. I was SHOCKED at what he said about Sam, Bobby and more! He also said He also said that The O’Jays song was about Bobby Womack.

Bobby did, his autobiography is a great read, karma paid him back the dish he ordered ICE COLD! I went to see him at Newark Symphony Hall, and he was so high he couldn't even sing, he told the audience that he had given us thirty years in the business,so could we give him the night, he finished his rant with pray to God, pray to Richard Pryor,pray to somebody and walked off the stage!

Sam was a fine man and a great singer but, he wasn't perfect. As much as I like Bobby Womack's music, he did Sam Cooke so wrong. He married his wife, slept with his daughter... man had no morals at all. People said Bobby would have had a better career if he hadn't done so much wrong to Sam Cookes family. Do you know what happened to Friendly? As a kid my Sisters and cousins would take me to their house to listen to them practice. I was in love with him, he would always take me to the store and get whatever I want. Years later I found out they just wanted me out of the house! 🙄 🤣

Huge fan of Sam Cooke but I'm not to blind to the stardom of Sam Cooke. Coming from church, he put on the pristine reputation for the public. I'm sure it was a shell shock to the public and also embarrassing for his wife he died in a shabby hotel getting services from a prostitute that robbed him. If Sam and Barbara had an open marriage, his death circumstances blew their cover. I also read he had a temper too and got arrested for disturbing the peace after not being allowed in a whites only hotel. I read he fathered children during his days singing gospel as well per Dream Boogie. One of the baby's mother took him to court and he paid her off $5000 to make her and the child go away. He was a cold piece. I could see how Sam made his wife and protege his enemies. Sam did what he wanted and everybody thought he was a saint. Barbara hated it and Bobby admired it. Doesn't make what happened to Sam right or Barbara and Bobby right either. Bobby was just obsessed with Sam's starpower and wanted everything he owned. Including his daughter.
