I'm so excited by this. I've been experimenting with 5.3 in Beta and I couldn't wait for the official release. I was thinking about this just almost less than 24h ago while scrolling the marketplace.
This feature is the most waited, the very top of mt wishlist for UE since my struggles with converting anything from UE4 skeleton to UE5 skeleton. Editing, adding bones... that alone solves every problem or at least should do. Just can't wait to make it work in the way I need. My most ambitious project has been on stand-by for 4 years by now, this in-editor Skeletal Editor alone is a massive game changer and the huge stability I found in 5.3 compared to a constant crashing UE5.2 is something I really hope hasn't been screwed up with the official release but actually improved it polishing it further.
I only hope my laptop's motherboard is not gonna let me down before the magic happens!

We need a good "How to" tutorial for editing bones....I find it confusing as hell

8 months later, still looking for a decent pipeline to get correct bones, animation etc in UE5 without using so many different programs and methods xD.
This is so cool....I've looked at other reviews of the skeletal editor and NO ONE even covered the possibility of 2D.....mind blown. Thank you for making this. Do you know if you can retarget animations from blender to the rigs you creat in skeletal editor?
Hi JSFILMZ, great video. Does the skeletal mesh editor allow you to transfer skeletons between actors, I ask this because you can import a obj with thousands of morph targets quickly, but as a skeletal mesh can take hours. I want to know if we can import our characters as static with their skin weights and just slap the rig from a low poly version without morphs onto it

As someone that Has rigged hundreds of characters and used both Mixamo, Blenders Autorig pro, and Mayas Quick rig. The First thing I also thought was if they can do it then so could Epic and it would be a huge add to the engine even to just rig bipeds to the default skeleton. I did have some issues with mirroring joints correctly , unless they were at a branch.

I'm wanting to save poses (various driving positions) for my custom metahuman, however, in 5.3 "create poses" is greyed out (although It seemed to work in 5.2.). Someone suggested re-rigging it in skeletal mesh editor (it's using the default M_tal_nrw_body). Do you have a solution for this problem?
But Is it possible to copy one skeleton to another mesh? For example I already have a skeleton and I need to transit this skeleton to another mesh. Is it possible to do without leaving UE?
can i remove all weight paint at once? it is very time consuming having to click on every little weight to remove it

Hey, do you know, if this converting Sprites to skeletal mesh part made it into the regular UE 5.3 Version? Because i tried it, and it doesn´t show this option for Sprites like it does in that video, i only get this conversion option shown for regular meshes.

Weird question: If I import 3 custom characters into my UE project, then I cant say they all use the same UE4 skeleton (1 copy) right? I mean I will have to have three different UE4 skeletons for these character during the import in my project, is that so?

yea dude for example here i removed the paint from the neck bone so now when i move the neck bone the mesh doesnt move its just stiff and straight
I would not call for an auto rig but something that would have been easy is skeleton transfer. Say let us just transfer mannequim skeleton to anything, that'd be a game changer
