Dude this is amazing. It looks like a movie. This would be so fantastic for indie studios or facilities doing stunt-vis or pre-vis of films. Even cinematics it could do the final camera moves. Epic !

I've been looking for validation that we could use the the Vive Mars for a typical v-cam usage...I was coming up empty, because the system was mostly designed (as you point out in this video) for use in a virtual production set up. Great overview and thanks again!

@@Jsfilmz I'd love to know more about the rig you set up for your vcam. Looks like you're using the Unreal Vcam app on your phone, but just not using it to drive the camera that it's viewing and instead using the mars to do that part of the job? Pretty clever, because that way you get all the camera controls at your finger tips. I love it!

The Vive Mars is a vastly underrated camera tracking solution and can hold up well against more expensive systems. Picking up the other two base stations will make a difference and you should also look at the FizTrack option as well for those smooth focus and zoom pulls.

@@Jsfilmz It is quick to set-up. There are a few things you have to do regarding genlock and timecode set-up but for the most part this is a fantastic system to use. Being able to use LiveLink in Unreal makes it really stable and you have FreeD as well. The new upgrade also makes a huge difference, make sure you look at all of those additions as well.

It's truly awesome! Apropos, big space! You can have a big space, just scale the scene down, so your 1 step could be like 5-step in the scene's space. Is it possible? 😊 I would try some shake reduction or moving average on the camera's coordinates.

Best money we have ever spent😁 and yes with 4 basestations you have freedom of movement, as you block 1 basestation, the others will pick it up saving your track.

Yeah, to use VR stuff now when not in VR play mode you have to make a shortcut to launch the engine with the flag -XRtrackingonly. Not super happy with the change, but its great there is an option to get back tracking/vr inputs.

HP Reverb G2 has tracking without the base station required. You can also get the HP computer with batteries and backpack that goes with it. Can't you use that as a vcam?

they got rid of steamvr and replaced it with openxr i think u can still use stramvr in 5.0
I presume if you had a gimble it would stabilize much better as right now it seems like a ton of cleanup would be needed. I have an old DSLR gimble kicking around Im sure I could repurpose for something like this.
@@Jsfilmz Ah, So I think I can still get the Quest to work with it. I could swear I saw the Unreal Team using a Quest in their virtual Production Tutorial series they released not long ago. But they only showed it in the highlights, then forgot to include it in the one hour long video. SMH

sorry Bro, didn't catch that part, i do have the mars with 4 base stations and it works great for led walls but im still trying out stuff for simulcam and cinematics not really where we want to be yet but the truth is I haven't found a way to make it work with out cables thought you might've have, sorry ! And btw that's what I'm saying that often times in games and CGI things looks more real when low res or blurry or during heavy rain, wasn't that the whole point of the rain during the LOTR Helm's Deep siege? (Also Cyberpunk 2077 looks crazy while driving during heavy rain).
Well Unrecord is in another league I guess but still there are a lot of filters, blurry stuff and shaky camera so 🤷♀️
P.s. Also I remember a YT video of a Hollywood expert saying why nowadays CGI looks more fake and he talks about directors doing what they think the audience wants (perfectly clean shots and stages) instead of what they personally find more realistic
