I love all the old stuff you show and play! Sometimes I cant belief how young you look, ...I would think you should be 100 years old with you knowing so much about everything. Must be your pure living and the water in Codgerville keeps you so young...oh...and Velvet of course...Velvet for sure! 😉
Absolutely Brendan! So much warmth and charm, and the way it fills a room! Enjoy those albums with a warm bowl of your favorite tobacco and happiness ain't too far away!
Ben great video always nice to hear from you, I look forward to your videos. The music you play always reminds me of the music that played during the episodes of The Little Rascals, good times. Take care.
Ben great video love them all. Have a question? The humidor tin you have do you know the history of it . The one for pipe tobacco ofcourse. I have that exact tin. A friend of mine picked it up at a antique shop. Love it so cool!!! Just curious on your thoughts of the history and where it came from . Thank you Ben !! Your the best .
Found your channel recently, and I have to say, you sir have the best channel I’ve seen. I love the feel of this channel. I love kicking back and enjoying a great pipe while watching. Keep the great videos coming and thank you again for such amazing content.
1836 BBQ Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoy the channel! I'm hoping to do a video sometime soon (tough to find the time lately). All the best and thanks again!
Beautiful tampers!.. The Snorkel should be called the "Stiletto" LOL. Hope your doing great. Thought i was the only one that wakes up at 2am because i fell asleep to early.. Stay well my friend. Wes
Good morning Ben great video as always. I just love your setup. With the. Pipe stands. And the music with your favorite blend "VELVET" its doesn't get better than this my friend that is a cool looking tamper i wish they still made them in that style Ben thanks. For sharing its always a pleasure visiting with the. "OLD CODGER" happy puffs 😄😄😄😄👍👍👍👍👍👍 best regards peter.
Jon Cooper Why thank you very much Jon! There's lots of great guys on here and we all share one very important thing! The love of a good full pipe of warm tobacco! Thanks again and all the very best!
Yes my friend!! Thank you as always for your videos. They represent a wonderful and unique contribution to the YTPC. So glad that you’re adding your unique style and view. Until next time my friend.
LOL that intro, wonderful..You have a great style of vids, a soothing thing of sorts, wonderful companionship for a pipe. Speaking of, nice paneled apple there, the snorkel is a funny thing, never saw that before, and who doesn't like old things accompanied by some whispering organ?!
Timberdrifter And it really is solid too... much more solid than one might think by looking at it. It would be a great EDC... if I weren't so afraid that I might lose it! I don't think I'd be lucky enough to find another one...
Always look forward to your vids.....I must confess that I've been something of a dilettante for some time now but seem to be finding my home with Virginas latterly, mostly with London Fog. Don't know if I'll ever settle on one blend..maybe...time will tell. Thanks for sharing the music info, always wondered who you were listening to, so soothing. Have a great week Ben
bpruk Haha, thank you Simon! Nothing wrong with liking Virginias, many pipe smokers settle on them quite decidedly! It seems the rarest sort of smoker is the one who settles on Englishes in the end. Burleys, Virginias, and Aromatics seem to have many more long-term devotees... Latakia seems to be more of a stepping stone for most. Strange hobby we enjoy!
A fine soundtrack for an after work smoke. Wasn't familiar with Brad Swanson so thank you for the introduction. Had to watch this video a few times to enjoy it with Half and Half. I do enjoy the Velvet as well and try to keep a bit around. Hope you and the rest of the community had a fine weekend. Skol!
We are diving right in to say hello 👋🏻👋🏻 right back at you! That is a very nifty tamper, wonder why they don’t produce them anymore 🤔...a fun piece of Savinelli history! Buon fine settimana!!! ☀️🍂
The Peacheys13 Thanks guys! I keep wondering the same about the Snorkel... been using it for years and it works great so far... maybe the spring mechanism was expensive to make... I have no idea! All the best!
Tremendous to see you my friend 👍 😁 I absolutely love the music Ben 👍🏻...always great to get enough sleep you take care of yourself see you soon be well
Great to visit with you buddy, and that whispering organ set the mood perfectly. Thanks for showing the Snorkel, very cool. I hope that pain has passed and you have a great Sunday! Mike.
CaneRodPiper Oh, that particular pain only ever takes a day off once in a while... but we get along okay most of the time! Glad you enjoyed the video Mike! Did you see the pipe that I've been meaning to send you in there? 😉
Codger good to see you my friend love that tamper . You have got the perfect smoking room between the music and all the awesome stuff around you so relaxing. I see you are smoking the good stuff 👍🏻
To me George... it's practically the ONLY stuff anymore. I've completely fallen for Velvet it seems! Thank you! Life is always so hectic and busy... It's so nice to have a place to slow down and relax, I'm glad you enjoy my little basement sanctuary! It's always a great pleasure to have you stop by, and all the best buddy!
I recently discovered your videos and think they are terrific - Definitely done in an artistic way that evokes a soothing time gone by … that great background music together with your raspy smooth voice, creates a Velvety calming experience. BTW, I love that moon-face on the bottle (I think it’s a bottle?) in your pipe rack, it’s both scary and fun. Anyway, just wanted to tell you I’m fairly new to the pipe community and happy I stumbled upon your videos - they are terrific. 👍 I need to go buy and try some VELVET now :) Just subscribed.
Nice tool! Your videos are so atmospheric , I only found your channel after Christmas so I missed your earlier stuff but you've got a sense of mystery being behind the camera with your fun anthropomorphic objects looking in. Reminds me of "Sleuth"/"Clue" (1972 film) I love the book recitals you do by the way, you've got a real talent for it. All the best, Martin, a piper from York, England!
The Man of Yorke Thank you so very much Martin! I really enjoy the Clue film! I've also been inspired by old 1930s and 1940s Disney cartoons! The old channel had some stuff I miss... but it was pretty much what you see here (except the mystery wasn't there, just my goofy face!) All the best and thank you again for the kind compliments!
Giovanni Ialongo And you know, I've found that Velvet grows on you the more you smoke it. Something in the aroma and mild flavor that just always seems to hit the spot! Glad you're enjoying it my friend!
Howdy Ben!.. another great video!... you old night owl you. I keep forgetting to order some Velvet.. I'll write it down for sure. Take care bud and we'll see you soon!
Hi Ben...Good to be back in The Codger Den for awhile. Very Nice. I'll need to check out Brad Swanson. Maybe that "Those Were the Days" album. Thanks for the tip. Take Care, and Be Well. Ed
Wish you were still making videos! As for the snorkel - from the 70s you say? Has a mini scoop on the end you say? Don’t think that was for scooping ashes!
This time you've leveled up on having a early morning pipe. That is a cleverly designed and useful tamper. The Whispering Organ album sounds wonderful. Are you a fan of Jesse Crawford as well? Great comment on pipe and tobacco pairing, "When I used to care about such things." Well, said. Sometimes it seems, that having a favorite tobacco that you smoke almost exclusively has been undervalued. I don't recall of ever having more than two tobaccos on hand at any one time. Usually it's just one favorite although the favorite changes with the season. The paneled pipe is nice one. Thanks for sharing some morning musings - always interesting. Be well - peace
Skipton95 Haha! I know I'm in good company when someone knows Jesse Crawford! I have a bunch of his recordings (though, unfortunately, not on Vinyl.) I always really appreciate your comments Skip. I sometimes feel like an outsider because I prefer to smoke only one blend with occasional diversions, rather than be some sort of Aged Virginia or Esoterica swilling dilettante... but after years of doing exactly that... I'm very happy with simple, comfortable, reliable Velvet! Glad to have a kindred spirit!
The Artful Codger Not only know of him, but played in his style for many years - he didn't publish arrangements that I know of, but David Coleman arranged many of the same tunes. I could add a few Crawford touches. Never an outsider, my friend, you just have your own personal style. 👍
Geez Ben, my clock doesn't even have a 236am on it ;) Gonna send you a bottle of warm milk! Are you sure that's a tamper, or is it a GI Joe Sword Cane, heheheh. That thing is cool, gonna keep my eyes peeled at the antique shops for that one. Take care my friend, Stephen
Any pipe can smoke Velvet well. Your a very interesting Feller Ben . I would really enjoy sitting Down smoking a pipe and maybe a spirit. Have a great weekend.
Catastrophic 1975 Yes I am! But I have two problems. The first is that I managed to find an industry survey report from the 30s that included the Spaulding and Merrick Company (which produced Velvet originally). A lot of the info came from that report, and then a great deal from the advertising. The problems are that 1. The report didn't include any other products that are still in production, so that's useless. 2. Velvet did a tremendous amount of advertising compared to all other brands, even at the time. I simply can't find as much about the other classic OTCs. I looked for Half & Half and Mixture 79... and came up pretty short on both. My best shot at a decent documentary is looking to be Prince Albert right now, and I have a lot of pics and a few notes... but I want to avoid being repetitive regarding the tobacco trust history and ownership shifting. 😥It's a real bear!
I've been going through your older videos, well the ones you have up. If you remember who I am, I was the SWR regular smoker then switched to Prince Albert. I'm a little upset about our American classic pipe tobaccos being "out sourced" to other countries. I'm not happy about it. With that in mind, I have found a new friend, Cornell & Diehl Pegasus. Very old timey burley with some virginia and unsweetened black Cavendish, I don't have to tell you, I'm sure you know, lol. Ben, I would LOVE for you to do a video on your new companion! Winchester is it?
I do remember you, and I am on exactly the same page. I refuse to buy the smaller quantity, higher-priced, lower-quality, out-sourced "new" offering. C&D and Sutliff have all of my business now.
I love all the old stuff you show and play! Sometimes I cant belief how young you look, ...I would think you should be 100 years old with you knowing so much about everything. Must be your pure living and the water in Codgerville keeps you so young...oh...and Velvet of course...Velvet for sure! 😉
I loved the pouring method of filling the pipe in the beginning! Great to see a video from you Ben!
Matches860 Thanks John! It'd probably work with Haunted Bookshop too!
From the looks of things here, I'm already doing it :D
Great little tool...never tried Velvet...great to have a baccy you are so comfortable with and always there for you.👍
It took an attitude adjustment and chronic blend-fatigue before I let myself find that blend! I believe that the right one's out there for all of us!
Appreciate you sharing your music with us. Thanks so much!
PipeWriter My pleasure!
Always a pleasure to be invited into the Codger den.
....reminds me a bit of my grandfathers den,... long ago.
Take care and be well,
Corey
Portland Pipe Smoker Thanks Corey! For me... that's exactly the kind of compliment that makes my day!
Great video organ music is great I have a bunch of old organ records to and also have an old 1950s Hammond one of the best instruments ever invented.
Take care.
bearded pipesmoker Thank you very much! I'm so glad you enjoy the videos! All the best and Happy Easter too!
Always enjoy my visits to Codgerville, kind of a Mister Rogers' Neighborhood for Codgers. Looking forward to my next visit.
Oom Howard I have always wanted to have a neighbor just like you so... let's make the most of this beautiful day!
Thank you very much!
Loved your video and words.
Keep it up. They are wonderful. 👍
Smoking xGunx Thank you very much!
I love that spring loaded tamper! Happy Smokes!

That Snorkel tamper is a museum piece. Have fun with your whispering organ!
Bonapiper Nope! It's a fully functional relic still very much in service! Thanks man, glad to have you drop in as always!
It's a nice piece Ben and the design is much nicer than the Vauen automatic tamper, which is still available unless I'm mistaken.
I just discovered your channel and I love the old timey feel of it definitely subscribing that Sav. Snorkel is awesome!
Pete McPherson Thank you Pete! I really appreciate that! All the best good sir!
I adore that era's music. It relaxes me almost as much as a pipe does. It also has a way of putting me in a contemplative frame of mind. Cheers!
David Farley Couldn't agree more David! And the two together? 😊 Just perfect! All the best and thanks for stopping by!
Beautiful tampers!.. The Snorkel should be called the "Stiletto" LOL. Hope your doing great. Thought i was the only one that wakes up at 2am because i fell asleep to early.. Stay well my friend. Wes

Love that snorkel, I’m gonna be on the lookout for one of those!
LackadaisicalE Everything is better with some whispering organ! Thank you very much! I try to keep things comfortable and pleasant here!
Love that Savinelli Snorkel!! Never saw one like that before. Good to see you up and running, Brother!!
Sgt. Savinelli Thanks Vinnie! Glad to be up and running! 😅
That is a pretty cool tamper. such a simple design really not complicated and totally functional.
Timberdrifter And it really is solid too... much more solid than one might think by looking at it. It would be a great EDC... if I weren't so afraid that I might lose it! I don't think I'd be lucky enough to find another one...
Way cool love my savinelli pipes

Maybe. Left side of the rack?
CaneRodPiper It hides behind the tub of Velvet for a bit!
Oh gosh yes, that's the one with the 2 piece stem ;-)
CaneRodPiper Yep! I'll get it and the goodies to you soon!
Codger good to see you my friend love that tamper . You have got the perfect smoking room between the music and all the awesome stuff around you so relaxing. I see you are smoking the good stuff 👍🏻

GrandpaCavendish Thanks Ed... and if you can't find his albums, there are dozens of others that ahem, hit the same notes!
Very Nice Old Scool looking pipe model You've gotten there, and nice stiletto type tamper,Best Greet and enjoy Your weekend, Paul
Paul The Scandinavian Stiletto eh? Is that something you guys see more often over there?
In the past I have had few of those then I went ahead and were selling them out..
Paul The Scandinavian Well, there's plenty of guys here that seem to like them, if you ever run across another!
Will keep this in my mind
Very cool tamp.
Bob and Donna Reynolds Glad you liked it! I'm sure fond of it!
Wish you were still making videos! As for the snorkel - from the 70s you say? Has a mini scoop on the end you say? Don’t think that was for scooping ashes!
this is my birthday the 24th....cheers codg
NYC drums Cheers Greg my friend! Happy Birthday!
I really like that tamper, though it looks more like a harpoon than a snorkel. lol
fireplug1701d Perfect for slaying plugged airways! Thanks as always my friend!
Good morning sir! Great video. Going to start ordering my tobacco on line soon need to get some Velvet lol.
Everett Young That's the way Everett! Plus... the prices are 👌
The Artful Codger I figure they would be better because here in Canada the price for a pouch is around thirty bucks
Everett Young Yuck. That's terrible!

Take care my friend,
Stephen
imawrench Lol... I am a night owl... what can I say?
If you spot one... snap it up! It's a great accessory!
Any pipe can smoke Velvet well. Your a very interesting Feller Ben . I would really enjoy sitting Down smoking a pipe and maybe a spirit. Have a great weekend.
Ghost Cob I would enjoy that too! If a guy is gonna be anything, he may as well be interesting! Thanks buddy!
The Artful Codger really enjoy your Channel. Thanks
Surprised it's not called a bayonet 😜🤐
That would be more fitting! Lol.
Ben, i know your Velvet video took alot of time, but i was wondering if you were still planning on any more older otc blend history videos.
😥It's a real bear!
Man that’s an awesome pipe tool. Looks like a mini walking cane. By the way is that little worm on your desk from the labyrinth movie?
The Magician Piper Allo! 🐛...no, he's a little advertising figure from the 30s... but I like him! Thanks Jack!
I've been going through your older videos, well the ones you have up. If you remember who I am, I was the SWR regular smoker then switched to Prince Albert. C&D and Sutliff have all of my business now.
