In 1975 I was on a train in the south of Spain, headed for Morocco. In the compartment with me and a couple of Dutch guys and three Moroccans. One of the Dutch had an acoustic guitar; one of the Moroccans took it and started to play. He had no idea of playing chords on the guitar, but man, he kicked out a rhythm that was solid, unforgettable.

@@julieholland7696 Thanks for your response, Julie, I'm with you 100%. I lived in New York City until 1996, and for a long time one of my favorite musical destinations was the World Music Institute on White Street. Their concert program (organized by Robert Browning and his wonderful wife whose name I regret that I can't recall) was all over the map. Just to mention one ensemble, there was a small group of musicians from India who played their classical music. Among them was a woman who played the shruti - an instrument with which I was unfamiliar. A drone instrument, which she played before the others began to play, and continued to play during brief intervals between the separate compositions. The effect was that the music actually emerged from the sound of the shruti, and subsided back into it when the song was over. As if the sound of the shruti were truly the sound of the universe, and contained all the rest of the music, giving birth to it and enfolding it again at the end of each raga. Entrancing. Now my upstairs neighbor has a shruti which she plays occasionally, singing along. I have encouraged her, and wish she would play more often, but it's not easy for her with two little girls to look after! When I hear that sound I lie down on my bed and listen through the ceiling.

WHAT GREAT MUSIC THAT I HAVE NEVER HEARD BEFORE. I am impressed by the crisp hand-clap by the woman.
Lack of words to describe how I feel listening to this wonderful tunes and rythym...my soul is satisfied
I love Tinariwen. Their music has a Blues vibe that soothes my soul. They're Tuaregs from northern Mali, West Africa.
Long live from the heart, from the city of steadfastness, Kidal Azawad, free and independent, to the group Tinariwen, may God protect you
Proud to say I'm amazigh...thanks tinariwen for spreading our culture worldwide 🙏🏻
They are not Amazigh lol. They're touareg. They're black, dude, if you didn't notice.
@@DudeWatIsThis they are definitely not black lol are you fkn blind , touargs are part of the larger Amazigh ethnic family
@@DudeWatIsThis the guy on percussion is black tho , but nevertheless amazighs are an ethnic group not a race Amazighs come in all colors from white to the darkest of skins
@@decordelights_ absolutly right, the touaregs are a part of amazigh people and all north africa are amazigh
@@DudeWatIsThis dude you're embarrassing yourself lol Touareg are amazigh 😂 amazigh include: beni mzab chelouha touareg kabyle chawya senhajia.. i might've forgotten some.
and they all speak the same language, with some differences..
north Africa + Canary islands
takes me to a deep primal sacred place .. I become emotional and stripped of ego when I listen to them.. it just feels so right..
+scott brunson I like the way you said that
i am fan too. pense liste to the duo
...some duo like red chili and Santana...
+marie folly And I like the way you said that +scott brunson said that
You'd seen nothing, this music in not meant for Live...! they play it in the "Rag" (the deep desert away from the city), most of the time at night around a fire, while somebody prepare tea... amazing moment...

***** im descendant from berber kabyle ... long live imazighen we come in all colour and shape :)
+john rayan ...so do Americans.....but we can't get past the silly bogus notion of "race".
Leonid....."race" is a social construct with NO biological validity. The contemporary American idea of "race" is a mutation of the white superiority fantasy devised to justify enslaving millions of Africans. I am 60% West African and 38% British Isles in ancestry...Folks like you see brown skin and mindlessly assign me to the black "race". I prefer to think of myself as an American hybrid who is very proud of his Fante, Fang, Nzima, Mina and Mandenkan ancestors who took everything this racist society threw at them...."Race" is YOUR reality...I'm a multi-ethnic member of the human race.
Leo...never heard of him....and I don't waste my time talking to anti-semite racists...Have a nice day, jerk.

Beautifull music!!! This is different then we hear mostly on Dutch radio. Last week this was on Radio 4, a national radiostation. Thank you Tinariwen, I hope to hear more from you and your music!
Love every phase of their career, try not to miss any of their concerts in NY City
What I love about them is that they are breaking the western cliché of how desert sound like. Now the Hollywood movie makers surprised with a completely different desert theme music.
